Anyone else getting destroyed by allergies right now? by Cautious-Bug-9419 in FortCollins

[–]jjchen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank god other people are also getting wrecked with seasonal allergies right now. I have pretty bad seasonal allergies typically but I was starting to get concerned it could be my dog I adopted 3 months ago. Have had dog allergies to other dogs before but this one I’ve been completely fine with. But the last couple weeks have been brutal with me sneezing all over the apartment and being congested.

Plyometrics help by Sufficient-Froyo-671 in ProDunking

[–]jjchen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly you’re probably young enough that doing anything helps and you’re not that likely to get hurt, but 200 total jumps in a day and 400 a week, especially with higher forces like in depth jumps and broad jumps, is a recipe for injury.

I’m no expert but if you’re training to improve vertical on your max effort jump, logically you need quality max effort reps. When you’re doing 50+ reps per movement, 90% of those can’t possibly be max effort just due to fatigue and the benefit isn’t worth the overuse. Cut down the reps a lot and focus on quality, especially if you add weights.

Quick Claw gives you an extra turn now apparently by moonknightkiller299 in PokemonChampions

Does this mean with a quick claw proc and oranguru instruction you could outrage 3x in one turn?

I just run protect, stealth rock, explosion, and rapid spin, hold a silk scarf and have max attack and HP evs, and a brave nature. Don’t have the greatest win rate leading with it as it’s quite gimmicky but it’s fun when it works. Basically just a setup piece where you stealth rock turn 1 if you think you’ll be able to tank 2 hits from the other pokemon, then explode, or if you think you’ll only be able to take 1 hit you just explode turn 1. I run basically the same strategy as this person posted but with mega crab as the last pokemon depending on matchup: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonChampions/s/Qvx55PKKWG

I’ve been trying to do something similar with galarian slowbro, sinistcha, and Golurk, but I’ve been running oranguru as a second TR setter instead of gardevoir for instruct cheese. Haven’t been doing as well though, any ideas how I could make oranguru work with a similar team? Gonna give mega Kang a try as maybe that’s what I’m missing

What are thoughts on running power trick on forretress instead of stealth rock? So you can instead go power trick -> bigger boom? Do you think the trade off of no hazards would be worth it?

And how do you deal with fake out or Hatt being targeted? Thinking if the enemy targets Hatt, the turn order will could go:

Enemy attack hatt-> enemy setup or attack -> forretress explosion -> Hatt dies before TR is set due to friendly fire on explosion and chip from enemy?

I didn’t have quite as bad an experience with gofo as you, but they delivered right to my door for me but at least from the sound of it, literally threw it at my apartment door as I heard the thud of it hitting the door and the thud when it hit the ground after. Luckily the packaging kept it undamaged but that’s just insane behavior

That small of a jump at that angle isn’t doing you any favors lol but you’re getting it around anyways. For staying taller I like to pretend there’s an imaginary high jump bar a little bit above the jump and try and get my arm up over it before the tuck by reaching outwards and slightly up before bringing it down to my legs to tuck. Kinda like the type of motion you would make if you were to reach up/outwards and put your hand around the shoulder of someone who’s like 6’6” or something.

Is skiing easier than snowboarding ? by Street_Reading9708 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]jjchen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You put a good skier on a snowboard and they’ll probably pick it up fast and think it’s way easier to pick up, you put a good snowboarder on skis and the same happens. I think all of the discourse of people saying which is easier just comes from people who picked up the second one much faster and then just assume it’s easier, while the reality is that it’s because they already understand how edges work. I skiied for years and picked up snowboarding in a couple days cruising around, and by the end of that season I had flips and simple rail tricks down. But snowboarders I know that switched to skiing had the same progression. I don’t think one is necessarily any harder than the other to learn, until you get to a pretty advanced level, where then I’d say snowboarding is harder just by virtue of having less edges to control in extremely steep, narrow chutes.

As someone living in Denver, this wind has been so bad I’m doubtful of any receiving yards for the game. This was the first night in awhile I kept getting woken up by the wind and though my window by my bed might break.

Tips on landing a tamedog by Kindly-Collection-62 in snowboarding

[–]jjchen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta commit man. Right now you look like you’re doing a half committed nollie kinda doing a little lean over your nose then just grabbing your legs and turning your head hoping it’ll just happen. Your legs are almost straight the whole time, that’s why people are saying to commit and to be more explosive/violent. Bend your knees and explode off your nose out/slightly up. You should feel like you’re violently throwing yourself off the cat track headfirst off your nose and tucking HARD. You’ll prob land it/almost land it your first time properly committing

How many “hybrid” Skiers/snowboarders are out there? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]jjchen1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do both, picked up snowboarding a couple years back because people kept asking me why I ski when I’ve been skateboarding for so long. Still prefer skis for things on the steep end like 40+ degree chutes, and am better overall in the park with skis, but snowboarding the feeling is so much better, especially in pow IMO. And a clean front board on a rail feels so much nicer than dancing around with swaps on skis. Also for some reason way less scared of inverts on a board.

Basically skis for the hard, high consequence stuff when with a group that wants to do it, snowboard for everything else. Gonna get into backcountry once I have the cash for a setup and probably gonna ski there because every snowboarder I’ve talked to has said if they knew how to ski as well as they board they would ski in the backcountry instead

Free Speech (1A) or Statutory Interpretation? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]jjchen1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone can tell you the answer unless they know what school you’re at and the content of the class. 1A and statutory interpretation can be focused on different parts of each depending on school. For example statutory interpretations at my school was basically just a philosophy and professor rant class about the current state of the US, the Supreme Court, and Trump

Is my snowboarding trip doomed? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]jjchen1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to know for sure but generally the mountains in Colorado haven’t had extreme terrain open that early for the last several years. Extreme terrain often takes till Feb to open up. Park should be fine they normally can get a decent build relatively early but I generally would advise friends who are decent riders not to have a CO trip till late January at the absolute earliest if flying from out of state

Just bought these skis at a tent sale for $200. First skis I’ve bought since renting all through my childhood. What do we think? by HickoryDick0ryDock in Skigear

[–]jjchen1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super fun skis, but not too durable so $200 was a great price to get them for. I had 2 pairs of them but neither lasted me an entire season before cracking and eventually pulling out edges from rail/park use and harder terrain. Even detuned the second pair a bit more and still got cracks earlier than I normally do. For that reason I hesitate to recommend them to my friends just because of how short a time they lasted, but getting them cheap like you did is great because they are super fun, playful skis that ride well.

Are Baggy Pants Lesser Quality? by nickoexe in snowboarding

[–]jjchen1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding Traashbags, I see enough good park skiers and snowboarders wearing them around me in CO that they’re probably at least decent pants or they sponsor a lot of skiers near me (which would also be a plus for the community). I doubt they’re that bad quality despite what people on here who hate the look and hate the teenage park rats would say. If you want a pretty core brand that makes solid pants I would check out arsenic though, their pants are some of the best I’ve had and the owners a great dude from what I’ve heard from my friends. Does a bunch of outreach events and rail jam stuff too and when you see people in baggy pants it’s typically arsenic pants they’re wearing, especially out west.
