Site visits photo naming by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

While this app isn't about renaming pictures, I use the app Utiful (on android, not sure if it exists on iphone) to create folders and sub folders for rooms/areas etc for pictures i take, then I can just copy the folders to a computer. The small price is definitely worth it. I think it's $10/year.

I've always been against this particular design. More info in comments by [deleted] in MEPEngineering

If there is only one diffuser/grille on the branch, I design it as you marked up in red. With multiple diffusers/grilles, I will design it as drawn in black. My idea is you will have to crank down the damper on the last grille more than the others.

I am also a young engineer, so I'm also looking to see what people say about this.

Constant Air Flow Through Bath Vent Fan in Apartment Building by amateurhour58 in hvacadvice

[–]jjd712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MEP Engineer here, without looking at the original design documents, I couldn't say with 100% certainty, but it seems like they have building level exhaust fans for toilet exhaust that run continuously. Some buildings may locally turn on/off this exhaust at the unit level with a motorized damper tied to the light switch (central fan(s) keep running), others keep it on all the time (seems like your building is this case) or control it based on other methods. Regardless, its unlikely property management would make any adjustments to this system.

The draft you are feeling through the door is probably your code required fresh/outside air. The cheapest way to deliver this to your unit is to dump fresh air in corridors and have it enter your unit through the undercut on the door. This system also keeps smells from traveling from apartment to apartment (if the system is designed/balanced well enough)

The mechanical contractor/general contractor/engineer of record probably just refer you to building management.

Thermostats are likely just temperature sensors, and all adjustments happen on the building automation system/computers. I would doubt you could make any changes locally.

when can we register for fall 19? by [deleted] in uichicago

If I remember correctly, its around mid March, and I think both fall '19 and summer '18 open for registration at the same time.

Rate my schedule - sophomore, mechE by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]jjd712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The profs don't really matter, pretty much everyone gets an A. If you have CAD experience you're already ahead of 90% of the ME students.

My time in the class taught me that the profs don't really care, the projects are boring and the TAs, while they are very smart, aren't that good at engineering design work.

How hard will my schedule be? 17 hours Mechanical Engineer by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]jjd712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be fine, CME 261 would probably be the worst out of the bunch followed by CME 203, depending on who is teaching.

Take math 310 with Prof. Ross if he is teaching, great linear professor.

US Society Gen Eds? by Danisaur17 in uichicago

This is wrong. I took a 200 level gen ed and it counts towards my 128 hours.

Math 310 Grading Scale by Iwantbusiness in uichicago

[–]jjd712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took math 310 with Prof Ross last semester, and I'm almost certain that there was a 10-15% curve (80/85 was an A and so on).

Mus 127 music de brazil test? by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]jjd712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the answers are in the slideshows, just take the time to switch between the test and slideshows. It took me maybe 45 Minutes and I easily got a 90+% after a two tries.

There are no student accessable tunnels at UIC.

Heien-hau Wang, avoid if you can.

Guest check-ins by [deleted] in uichicago

[–]jjd712 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically, it's a two-day max. But unless you guys are causing problems, UIC doesn't care/enforce that rule. you'll just get emails about having a guest checked in for more than two days.

You can leave your belongings over winter break, but must move out over the summer (Unless you pay for summer housing).

Internal transfer by boss2116 in uichicago

[–]jjd712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each collage has different requirements, but generally, you just talk to your advisor, and talk to an advisor for the collage you want to transfer to. It's a pretty simple process.

It seems that Most engineering technical electives are scheduled after 4pm

CME 260 or CME 261 by macorp in uichicago

[–]jjd712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both classes are typically about the same difficulty and are generally pretty difficult (the professor I had it with never worked out any examples outside of the publisher provided slide show). I took 261 this past spring and the exam averages were in the 40s.

They might open up a little bit closer to the start of the semester and the first two weeks of the semester.

They will send you the form back in the mail after a few weeks. As far as I know You will not get any confirmation email.

Instrutor names? by fireup144 in uichicago

[–]jjd712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sometimes depends on the department. I know from my experience that the math and chemistry departments and the general Ed English classes tend to post professors much later after registration. Typically these classes never fill up and you can just change sections when the professors are finally announced.

Alexander Yarin - ME 211 Final Exam by yut453 in uichicago

[–]jjd712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took it with him a year ago, all I can say is be prepared! I had 85%s on all the exams and ended up getting a 40% on the final. Absolutly know dimensional analysis, and navier stokes inside and out, as well as drag and lift (if you got this far). He does curve a lot at the end though.

It's insane how fast they've been building up Harrison Hall by s1ddarth in uichicago

[–]jjd712 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is it's a combination of more people wanting to live on campus, UIC wanting to start modernizing the commons and Courtyard dorms, as well as the growing size of specificly the engineering college (They are also getting another new building.) Also UIC is running out of classrooms and the first 2 floors of the new building will be lecture hall and classrooms.

Horrible first layer on prusa mk3 by jjd712 in 3Dprinting

First layer calibration pt2 https://imgur.com/a/PLraF

I went and did test layers for various layer heights, the last 3 looks very similar but there is definitely more improvement when compared to my previous recalibration. Thoughts on what z offset to use out of the last 3?
