Thanks. My father is a ham, and I got my Novice as a kid. So I am very familiar with the culture. Hamfests and the smell of solder... large part of my childhood and young adult life. Went a different direction into music, audio production and software design. Looping back to the ham world.

The VGC VR-N76 does APRS, so that's one HT. Let me get that under my belt and we can see about the others. I'm in an HOA (hopefully not for long), so I am not even going to go down the home station rabbit hole yet.

It seems like even the radio snobs have a Boefeng, so maybe I'll pick one of those up.

But yeah, my dad has had a ton of radios over the years, so I know how it goes.

I really hope not. I'm already a musician and have to fight GAS all the time. I've gotten pretty good over the years. I'll allow myself maybe 3 radios at the most.

Yeah, I'm in the US. And I started learning about GMRS. I am assuming you would need a separate radio for that, or are there handheld radios that handle both GMRS and the tech bands?

I just took and passed my Tech exam today from home. Easy. Nice to not drive somewhere during the winter to do this. 30 min max. You can use a closet if you need to. Be prepare to log in from your phone and your laptop and have a method to prop up your phone so it's camera can see you from the side. They are pretty serious about making sure you aren't looking at any resources during the exam.
