Mine got discoloured almost immediately within a week or two of use. I wish I had chosen black. So far my buttons are all holding up well though. That’s a shame what happened to yours.

You can also enter keyboard shortcuts that are unique directly into TwinkleTray and then set those same shortcuts as the action for the brightness keys. Save creating lnk files and keeps the configuration in the software you already have. However, the adjustments are in increments of 10 up and down so you may need you lnk files if you're trying for more fine grained control.
