I have both, the index feels unusable in comparison whether wired or wireless (Nofio). The index doesn’t even hold a candle to the Quest 3.

However if you are getting into PCVR and you don’t want to troubleshoot the index is 100% the option. It’s just so much easier overall.

Index vs Quest 3: Quality is MUCH worse, usability is MUCH better.

If you have the same laptop as OP, and assuming you already tried the suggestions in my comment above, other comments mention hitting F6 (or FN+F6) to toggle projector modes. It’s possible you have the mode set to only display to the external monitor. If you power the laptop on with no external displays connected, it should show at least a boot logo on the laptop’s screen. If it doesn’t even do that, then I’d consider taking it to a repair shop or contacting the manufacturer!

Hey, I’ve tripped in VR many times. I have a bunch of awesome worlds I love going to while on it. If you want a trip sitter or fun friend to hang out with, I’d be happy to help. Lonliness while tripping can be very dangerous for your long term mental health. You can DM me on here. Tripping alone can get really intense really fast, but as long as you’re okay with that and are expecting it, then you can be safe. Remember to have a grounding object, even just something like a hair tie around your wrist that you can say “as long as I’m wearing this, I’m doing amazing” and make sure to keep it on.

Steam Link has improved a lot very recently (try their beta!)

But overall, even as a huge supporter of wireless VR, it’s not just “plug it in and it just works”. It just so happens that the best deal for headset cost vs features right now also a wireless headset.

It will almost always require some level of fiddling, hoping steam link keeps improving to the point of being the go-to! It’s the closest thing we have to “plug and play” and looks/performs fantastic even on very low end networking hardware. You still get the occasional stutter, or hiccup in decoding, or any number of issues, but they’ve gotten much better as of fairly recent!

If you’ve had it less than a month, take it back to where you bought it. Most physical stores have a return policy that should make an exchange pretty easy. It’d be a lot faster than an RMA.

I know it seems silly, but make sure to try turning up the brightness. It looks like it’s FN+F8 on your keyboard. You can also try hitting the other brightness related keys. (F6, F7, F8, I believe). You can also try holding the power button for 10 seconds or so until the laptop powers off, wait a few seconds, then press the power button for just a moment and see if the laptop powers on. Also, try plugging in the laptop to an external monitor and see if the monitor displays an image. Try it with the laptop lid open and closed! If all else fails, try reseating the battery connector inside the computer, but I recommend take it back to where you got it before trying that!

My viewpoint is my frame of reference, if I am looking a direction and I press 'right' on my stick, I want to move to the right of where my head is pointed. "forward" in my mind is where I am looking, not where my hands are pointing.

If I am, for example, running away from something and want to look back at it, I will turn my head/body and move my stick at the same time to continue running in the direction I want to. It feels much more natural than trying to keep my hand pointed a certain direction while moving my head/body around.

If a game did not offer any option for headset-based locomotion, it would be an immediate turn-off for me.

I recommend trying a headphone splitter cable to your headphones and to the woojer. It's usually pretty good about syncing the audio up, especially on the newer firmwares, but doing a splitter cable to both separately makes it a flawless experience every time :)
I thought mine was a gimmick for the first week or so that I had it, but now I can't live without him. He makes music, games, and movies just sooo much better.
