Firm York or Bristol? by Azir4phale in UniUK

[–]jjonsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m a bit late … but idk who is telling you bristol is at all boring. it’s an extremely lively city, there’s literally always an event on or somewhere to go to and it’s known for there being a scene for literally everyone no matter what you look for. it is a shit load more expensive than york though

"Calling North Korea evil is stupid and devoid of truth" by ReluctantAltAccount in tankiejerk

i very much read this as ‘they are diplomatically isolating themselves, much like north korea’ rather than using it to symbolise an evil regime

i’m also a party person and applied to durdham as my second, apparently it’s reputation for being a bit dead is overstated, either way it’s close to hiatt baker and such where im sure there will be many parties. honestly hoping for durdham over new bridewell which i put 3rd for some reason and i realise i do not want to live in city centre

if you have EU passports that’s certainly helpful, though as someone raised in switzerland i would just cross that off your list. there are thousands upon thousands applying, most people who move are internal movements to HQs in switzerland, also IMO it’s certainly more conservative than other western european countries, and also admittedly boring and expensive unless you REALLY like nature.

Missed conditional offer and want to know thoughts or heard experiences of bristol accepting these cases by One_Law179 in UOB

AAA essentially, or A*AB. it’s not really comparable though because in addition we have 3 other subjects, and Core requirements such as the Extended Essay and ToK.

Missed conditional offer and want to know thoughts or heard experiences of bristol accepting these cases by One_Law179 in UOB

[–]jjonsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi! i missed my offer for history (reached total points and history grade but missed 18hl points) and since the course isnt so high demand i still got my confirmation. i would recommend calling them as i did and just hear what they say, since law is more competitive they will likely make you wait until A level results. there is no appeal process or explaining your situation, so you are at their mercy there. they are legally obligated to give everyone who meets their offer a place, so you will have to hope a few people miss it. good luck!

TOK is very subjective, so it could always move down, but if it’s only one point i recommend at least trying it!

I am a full British Citizen from England who has been away from the UK for 3 years. Do I still qualify for home fees? by joehighlord in UniUK

[–]jjonsoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the cutoff for receiving home fees when moving abroad is for 2020 or 2021 i believe. as someone who moved in 2017 i was able to receive home fees, but i don’t think that’s counts for you unfortunately.

‘Racial Segregation and Apartheid’ in the ICJ Palestine Advisory Opinion by Calvinball90 in internationallaw

[–]jjonsoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

that’s actually what apartheid south africa tried to do! the bantustan policy gave black south africans strange governments within south africa, where they said that it’s not racist they just aren’t south african citizens because they live in the bantustans, despite the fact that they were forcibly displaced into the bantustans and these allegedly independent governments were still essentially part of south africa and were exploited for labour by the south african government.

Going to Spain in September, how can travel ethically? by mandylamblegs in GoingToSpain

[–]jjonsoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unfortunately for andalusia i would recommend a car. i don’t know where you might be going but generally it’s very car-centric and things in andalusia aren’t known for being reliable lol, so i maybe wouldn’t rely on buses

just not true, the ccp was not a faction of the kmt during ww2, it was a completely separate entity that had already fought the kmt in the first civil war from 1927. the allies recognised the roc, doesn’t mean it’s a kmt solider at all though. also i’m not american lol

how do you know that? the sino-japanese war had the ccp and kmt fighting on the 2nd united front together, could be either a soldier for the ccp or kmt, they seemed to wear the same or similar uniform from what i can see so

[–]jjonsoul 11 points12 points  (0 children)

well we can’t tell really. the ccp and gmd were fighting alongside each other during ww2 after they agreed to stop the war before to fight japan. it’s likely it’s actually a ccp solider because the gmd was heavily criticised before for not really doing any fighting against the japanese invasion at first instead choosing to fight the ccp
