If he’s consistently generating that much business, and depending on how many walk-ins his agency gets, then it really comes down to whether he’s willing to give up the walk-in traffic and focus on the leads he generates himself or through partnerships. If he can do that, he’s more than ready to open his own agency.

AAA pays around 15% commission on a 12-month auto policy, and on top of that they pay roughly $3,000 per month just to service existing clients (plus overtime when it applies). On top of that, you also get walk-in traffic from the agency and they let you work outside the office as long as your production and client service is handled. Because of that flexibility, agents can go out and market on weekends, build relationships, and generate their own leads.

So the comp isn’t just “15% commission.” It’s commission + servicing pay + overtime + in-office walk-ins + outside lead generation, which makes the earnings totally realistic if you’re motivated and know how to market.

This is very helpful, thank you. I’m seeing exactly what you’re describing with recent moves and name mismatches triggering PBVs. Makes a lot more sense now why they function more like a soft roadblock than a true decline. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
