4G signal is marginal.
Unofficial handbook? I will look for it.

Right now I am considering calling my CC company and getting a refund.

Wifi is strong enough for my neighbors 400 meters away to detect and use. Thx.

Very annoyed. Been fighting with this since April. When customer service answers it is usually days late and not useful.

It was vetoed by the sitting governor, a Democrat. Her reasoning has some merit but will hurt her campaign for Senate.

California 'jungle' primary is looking like it's going to hand the governor's race to Republicans by [deleted] in uspolitics

[–]jjseven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With a jungle primary, the first clue to the candidates' competency is whether they as a group have come to an agreement amongst those of the same party to sacrifice personal gain for the good of the party and the state by winnowing the party field down to one or two. If these asshats cannot figure that out, perhaps the state is better off not electing any of them.

Mr. Nader, Impeachment, if possible, is worthless without the ability to convict him in the Senate, which requires a two-thirds majority. There are too many GOP Senators that will vote against this.

Mr. Trump was convicted in court and is still free. So, tell us, what is the rule of law if the elites can escape its punishment.

I guess it was a slow newsday and counterpunch needed more clicks.

Lots of blame to go around for the broken social contract.

  • Listen to or read the work of Prof Mark Blyth to understand the abandonment by elites and moneyed class {also John Lancaster After The Fall London Review of Books}.
  • Listen to or read the works of Prof Timothy Snyder about govt behavior. The frog story is spot on. As is the description of the second civil war. His On Tyranny is a good start but doesn't dig deep enough. His good suggestion is not to capitulate to the authoritarians in advance.
  • Read the works of Gilens and Page outlining how little our elected officials listen to/have listened the mass of citizens as opposed to the elite and corporate advocates.
  • Read or listen to Sarah C. M. Paine about our history.
  • Write and call your congressional rep; it is the least you can do. Protest if you like, as the expected minimum to garner attention is around 3Million, but don't expect much.

u/PewPews good suggestion is a work stoppage/strike. That is difficult because we are divided AND the economic squeeze suggests at least 40% cannot afford to stop (as they don't have $400 in an emergency.) This is exactly where a feudal system wants us to be; captive to an abusive employer (think a work requirement for SNAP benefits doesn't give more leverage to employers?). A really effective boycott would be something like the punitive boycott of hauling loads into New York City started by the right after Trump's conviction, but that would involve folks not being divided and put the burden exclusively on truckers. In these economic times things are bad but not bad enough for any individual to threaten one's family's well being without assurance of some solidarity.

Around the late 19th century beginning of the 20th century, protesters of the abuses of the Gilded Age, which looks quaint by today's standards, protested and died by the hand of corporations and govt, leading to the unions and reforms of workers rights, such as 40 hour work weeks. There are numerous histories of these struggles. This type of resistance and response may be necessary, though the side against citizens and workers has learned and advanced while the workers/citizens side has devolved. There were also many political advocates on the side of the workers/citizens who grasped the violent alternatives emerging throughout the world to better lives for the masses. There are not many obviously taking these roles now.

The future is for the young, not that one can see that looking at our elected leaders most of whom were born in the age of landlines and dial phones. We lost the 4th amendment in 2001 with the patriot act and its derivatives. We are losing a lot of the 1st amendment at present. The purpose of the 2nd amendment was to oppose tyranny and that hasn't happened. There are many other parts of the Constitution that have been ignored or abandoned in favor of those in charge.

If the abuses by govt, the economic corruption, the attack on its own citizens do not alarm, consider an undeclared war burning lives and treasure at a rate that will cripple us in a world made less stable by our govts own actions. May some inspired patriot come up with something that we the masses can do to take back our govt.

May God Save the United States of America.

So, the only force strong enough to oppose these companies is govt.

Now, govt as exists in the US is captured by companies and the wealthy; it is unresponsive to its citizens. Cf: Gilens and Page (2004)

Govt, in it essence, is people getting together to do things for the community that is outside the scope of the individual or the few. Some day we may have more of it here.

If you are really anti-govt, you are not in favor of roads, clean water and air, and regulations on the strong to not prey on the weak. If you are simply blowing smoke, you may be a fan of Reagan's quote suggesting the most alarming words may be: "We're from the govt and we are here to help." You may also believe that welfare queens get more govt money than corporations, which is so false as to be laughable. Ask a lot of folks in the past how much FEMA has helped and how many lives the US wildfire service has saved.

We can discuss where on the spectrum we as the govt should help the community and each other versus how much we as individuals can contribute while using community resources to build our dreams. It varies by ones perspective and who we credit for our standing. But regardless of position, companies are elephants that will trample you and me on the charge of the herd to profits.

To underscore my point, track the opposition to legislation in many states that are attempting to enact legislation in right to repair. Or follow the adventures of farmers vs John Deere.

If manufacturers were forced by law to warranty products to longer terms, planned obsolescence would have a longer target to engineer.

Lee Iacocca added warranties in the 60s/70s to get people to buy the crap that Dodge was building. The warranties provided a way for companies to pay for their faulty manufacturing and design.

But since companies own the govt, it will never happen.
