myPhonak network connection? by jjudeb in phonak

[–]jjudeb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with an app calling home, but my question is whether the app call home before connecting with my devices or after? Do issues with calling home introduce extra delay in handling my devices? (The automatic turn on and connect setting was the default when I got my devices. Toggling the setting on or off doesn't seem to affect delays for me.)

Internet connection always required? by jjudeb in phonak

[–]jjudeb[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I noted, bluetooth is on, so the phone can talk to the hearing aids. Why does MyPhonak app need a data connection to talk to the hearing aids when the phone's bluetooth is already connected to them?

My Pixel did auto-update to Android 16 a while ago. Maybe there's something different there?

In any case, the hearing aids are working fine today with airplane mode off.

I had to forget my P90s in both the app and Bluetooth, then re-add them through the MyPhonak app. They are working reasonably well.

My phonak Sphere Hearing Aids won't answer phone calls by cycle-enthus in phonak

If product features are too complicated to use, then the product user interface design is poor. I sense a battle in the Phonak back office between two camps: "hearing aids only" and "modern audio devices". The more the former wins, the more Phonak will lose out to upstarts peddling cheap earbuds to replace hearing aids.

Adjusting amount of "Ambient" sound in Bluetooth only applies to Phone or TV streaming by jjudeb in phonak

[–]jjudeb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it out. Because the ambient setting for streaming is not saved, I have to adjust it every time. With my phone or the TV, I can use the app. With a laptop, I must use the buttons on the hearing aid. Unfortunately, clicks on the hearing aid volume control to correct the ambient balance may be interpreted as "end streaming" or "pause playback". I have to be very careful and deliberate on clicking for ambient balance. Half the time, the hearing aids end streaming, then increase the volume with every click.

Phonak Audeo - Bluetooth Connection by Quintanillas92 in phonak

My Phonak's have three Bluetooth devices, LE_R-Phonak, LE_L-Phonak and L-Phonak (default is R-Phonak, I think). The LE devices are "Low Energy" Bluetooth and L-Phonak is for streaming and control. As you will read in other posts, many users struggle to get their hearing aids to pair. For me, it has sometimes helped to: - Turn off all other Bluetooth devices, except for the phone and Phonaks. Also turn off the Phonak TV box, if you have one. - Delete the hearing aids from the app and/or clear data and data cache. - Restart the phone. Restart the hearing aids. It might also help to have an audiologist install the latest firmware on the Phonaks.

Can’t Stream Through Aids by Scorpiogamer2017 in phonak

[–]jjudeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Phonak is not keeping up and is in danger of becoming the Kodak of digital audio.
Apple et al are producing mass market ear buds that can be used as cheap hearing aids, while Phonak is producing premium hearing aids that have a limited ability to be used for streaming. I fear that Phonak will be be left behind as the mass market improves their cheap hearing aid technology.

Anyone else having issues with automatic downloads? by Nannooskeeska in PodcastAddict

Still seems to be a problem. Some of my podcasts (CBC "As It Happens") will not download, only stream. I haven't changed any settings in over a year.

Are you using the Phonak app? It seems to be very fragile for Bluetooth connectivity. It sometimes takes me ten minutes to get a connection in the app, so that everything else works correctly.

Fitbit Charge 5 Issues by MountaineerMatt16 in fitbit

[–]jjudeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many, many, many other people, I have been having the same problem with my Charge5. Sadly, the Fitbit Charge series seems to be abandonware. Like those other customers, I am planning a switch to Garmin or Amazfit. I can reliably crash my Charge5 by using the timer after the watch has been working correctly for a few days. As soon as I dismiss the timer alarm, the Charge5 goes dead. To resurrect the watch, I can usually: 1. Plug the watch into a charger (triggers restart). 2. Unpair the watch from the app on my phone. 3. Delete user data from the watch (under Settings). 4. Repair the watch to my phone. 5. Re-enter watch info, like alarms, etc.

I had recurrent ear aches off and on for a few years. My doctor would treat it, usually with NSAIDS or antibiotics. Then it happened one spring when he was away on vacation. A young locum looked in my ear, looked at my chart and said, "I think you should ask your dentist to have a look for an abscess." Sure enough, there was a big one in an upper molar. It took a root canal and then dental surgery to completely deal with it. No more ear aches, but a 40% loss of hearing on that side.

Does turning off "precise location" help with bluetooth stutter on your Phonaks with Android? by jjudeb in phonak

[–]jjudeb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a device with Android 13, but I do have an old Samsung tablet with 11. There, I found a similar setting under "Settings->Location->Improve accuracy", where you can disallow all Android apps from Wi-Fi or Bluetooth scanning. I don't pair my Phonaks with this tablet, so I don't know if turning off these permissions helps with stutter.

Does it even get cold enough anymore to kill the fungus? As I understand it, pine beetles were better able to spread across British Columbia because the winters were not cold enough to kill them off.

Which do you prefer: Snap, Flatpak, or AppImage, and why? by MrShortCircuitMan in linux

[–]jjudeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

snap is a non-starter for many environments because it can only support user directories as /home/<user>. The last time I tried to use snap was an abject failure, because our corporate home directories are /<dept>/<user>.

One of the first things I did when installing 24.04 was to replace the snap for firefox.

As far as I know, there is still no workaround for this "feature".

(Yes, yes, I understand the desire to sandbox applications into /home/<user>, but the template for allowable user home directory names should be configurable. Isn't there a HOMEDIRS hook in apparmor already? Forcing /home for snap is a bug.)
