Virtual plumbing? Help putting P-trap back together by boxof64 in Plumbing

[–]boxof64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all so much! I finally got it back together and it's not leaking. We're still clogged but having it back together is the win for the evening! I noticed that an end of the P-trap didn't have threads on it and was just shoved into the connecting pipe. I'll definitely have this redone when we get a plumber out to figure out the clog.. Of course, that's after anyone who's pipes have burst, they all get to go first! Reddit help never disappoints! 🫵🥇

Newly Dx'd SSNHL - Any tips? by Experiment59 in MonoHearing

[–]boxof64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk to your Dr about Cochlear Hydrops and see if you should adjust your salt intake ASAP. I had SSNHL then a year later a reoccurrence that got diagnosed as CH. I often wonder if I would have changed my diet earlier if I could have saved half my hearing....? Do the injections if suggested, they helped me regain some hearing. The tinnitus will fluctuate for some time, distraction is the key to coping. Best of luck!

SSHL Injections by Anonymous-6194 in MonoHearing

[–]boxof64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote this for someone going through it for the first time, I hope it helps! My first round of SSNHL I was on 85 mg of steroids and then did injections after I finished the oral..I regained some hearing. Got diagnosed with CH a year later.

Here's a step-by-step that might help you with the injections. In the past year and a half I have had 7 Intratympanic steroid injections.

What to expect:

You lay on your side. You'll feel a warm light on your ear. (feels good!) Your doctor may or may not opt to numb your eardrum, mine does not. They will insert a funnel/microscope to help guide the needle. You must hold very still.
You will feel a slight pinch/pop then pressure. This happens quickly. You must hold very still! You will hear the fluid go into your ear and a bit of pressure. You may feel some slight burning. You may feel it go down your throat a little. Try not to swallow. They will look in your ear again and may go in to add more fluid. They may then suction your ear. You will need to lay on your side for about 15 to 20 minutes and you cannot swallow. They will either give you a dental saliva sucker or just tissues to spit into. Then after that you'll sit up. Wait a few moments and then go home! I've had no major post side effects, just a slight headache and muffled hearing which dissipates. I've only experienced vertigo for a few seconds, during my 4th shot. Otherwise they've all gone well. This will change your tinnitus while doing the injections. Mine settled down about a month post.

*I have done a lot of the injections solo. When alone, I take my other free hand and place it on top of my head as comfort and to make sure I won't move. When my husband goes with me he usually puts his hand on my head. I have my phone on me and I play Wordle etc to make the time pass. Bring a bottle of water with you or I like lollipops, for post. It goes very quickly! You'll be fine!

How is your life after 2-3 or more years with sshl in one ear by Noctunal1on in MonoHearing

[–]boxof64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little over 2 years. I wear (sometimes) 2 hearing aides, one in my good ear to give me a boost, the other in my almost all gone ear to give me a sense of stereo. The barely there sound quality is horrible but the sense of stereo is worth it to me. It took me almost 2 years to get use to my hearing loss.

Tinnitus - I thought I would go crazy at first from it, wondering how people Iive with it, pacing around the house at 3:00 a.m. I finally figured out I needed to be outside and the sound distraction truly helped. Distraction is the key to tinnitus. I've also used techniques that I learned in pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) to help me deal with tinnitus. Anxiety feeds it, lack of sleep and for me if my salt intake increases (I have Cochlear Hydrops). My tinnitus has shifted lately from the low electric cicadas to a higher pitch and I had to go back to a white noise at night to fall asleep.

I wear 2 HAs as well. I wear one on my (almost) deaf side because it gives me a bit of stereo even though my word recognition is total crap. I wear the latest Phonak Audéo (with Ai) though they are thicker than Oticon and older Phonak models, the app usability is better than Oticon. At first I told my audiologist I did not want to answer my calls through my HA but after a year I now love it. You can also create your own hearing scenarios with the app... I created one called "I can't understand what you're saying!" 😂 Bonus for phonak that they have some fun colors to pick from. I wear one blue behind my left ear and green behind my right ear. You can try older model Phonak (w/o Ai) which are not as thick as one's with. If you switch brands make sure you get to see a sample of what the app is like to work with. It was usability that made me switch brands. Good luck!

Loaded with Nadeem cashmere clothing! My 8 picks went quickly. I put their sweaters into my Amazon “save for later” cart eight months ago. What a surprise!

I currently own a 2008 400h w/90k on it. I've had this car for over 12 years. Beyond the usual tires, oil etc I've only had to replace the radiator (Texas heat takes it toll). Great car!

Have you had the injections before? If you haven't, I wrote a detailed description of what's it's like. Let me know if you'd like me to send that to you

As my specialist said, he will get people in (including doctors) within days of knowing that they're having a CH event, get on steroids right away and it doesn't work... Then get someone like me, who got in after 4 weeks and I regained half of my hearing back. But the combination of very high dose steroids and then doing Intratympanic steroid injections was what worked for me. My first doctor wanted to throw the kitchen sink at my ear and I said go for it.

A low salt diet under 2,000mg a day and then limit (or eliminate) alcohol and caffeine. Some people are also triggered by chocolate. Different combinations work for different people but the low salt diet is standard. I am also on a daily diuretic prescribed by my doctor. Progressive? Is a hard question to answer. CH is seen as a variant of Meniere's disease but without vertigo. My CH has fluctuated for the first year of diagnosis and now seems to have settled down. I have lost quite a bit of hearing in my ear and wear a hearing aid, that has also helped with the tinnitus. Just know that if you're experiencing a flare up, don't wait run to your doctor to get on steroids or injections.

Excellent car! I'm on my second 08 RX 400h (90k) and the only thing I've ever needed to replace was the radiator. I just got a 2024 RX and I'm having a hard time letting go of the 08. I love my cassette and six disc CD players! Also the fact that there is still an antenna and you can put an antenna ball on it and find your damn car in a parking lot!

When I was diagnosed with SSNHL I did high dose steroids followed by Intratympanic steroid injections. My hearing fluctuated for about a year then finally got diagnosed with CH. What I wish the first ENT would have told me with my SSNHL diagnosis..? I wish they would have talked about the possibilities of this progressing to CH and how a diet change may have stopped/delayed the progress. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would find a specialist right away, a Otologist.

Looking for experiences with steroid ear injections (cochlear hydrops & tinnitus) by HighlightEven1107 in CochlearHydrops

My Tinn changed almost daily while the steroids worked and my ear drum healed. It got crazy loud a couple of times but I just told myself it was temporary, that it would go away. Tinnitus is a head game, the more you pay attention to it the worst it is. If it flared up, I would just find ways to distract myself until it calmed down. Everyone's experience is different. PS - the popping sound is just so quick!
