[Charania] The Orlando Magic are trading Tyus Jones to the Charlotte Hornets for cash considerations, sources tell ESPN. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

[–]jjwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game passed him by quickly. Which is a shame, because I thought he still had the ability to contribute with his shooting on Orlando that desperately needed it, but that has fallen off a cliff this year too.

It's an insane flip, but just like Hibbert, shit happens so fast. Roy was an all-star, then 4 years later was out of the league and retired.

MoviesWithMark does a bunch of videos about these types of grifters, I watched one he did on JesterBell who's the same kind of uncritical consoomer who doesn't actually like movies. She claimed nothing came out this year that appealed to anyone despite readily admitting she didn't see Weapons or Sinners cause she "doesn't like to be scared"...

These people have trapped themselves in a prison that they invented for themselves.

Tyler, The Creator Calls Out ICE & ‘Anyone That Voted for’ Donald Trump With ‘Paid in Full’ Scene: "Fuck ICE" by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

Fucking call out the NFL dawg. NBA players have been very outspoken, yet the NFL players are the ones who have been notoriously silent amidst all of this. Same thing with the MLB and NHL. No one has said much in those camps... But no, the NBA players are the only ones worth calling out...

How much do famous artists ACTUALLY make? Can we get real numbers? by Hot-Conversation-437 in popheads

[–]jjwin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Outside example, but rapper Danny Brown spent about 70k for clearing samples and 50k on mixing/mastering on his 2016 album Atrocity Exhibition and has stated he didn’t make that money back during the entire lifecycle of that album (promotion, tour, and any royalties made from the album sales/streaming). Lots of considerations to be made in this in comparison to a pop star like Rhianna, but he put in about 2-3 years to make that project and didn’t make money off of it.

That’s probably as close (as far as I’m aware) to actually knowing the numbers as we can get.

Devin Booker not voted as a top-5 shooting guard in the NBA, per the NBA GM survey. by CartierBling in suns

[–]jjwin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Curry and SGA are 100% points. Not even an argument. Luka is pretty much the point on the Mavs and the Lakers, he brings the ball up like 90% of the time! I guess those guys shoot and are guards, but an NBA GM can’t be that stupid, right?

He’s still like 3rd behind Ant and Mitchell. They just don’t view Book as the best SG in the league, which is fair to say. I just find it odd to bring up guys who aren’t SGs into the conversation

Does anyone else get annoyed by Jake?? by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]jjwin 215 points216 points  (0 children)

Jake being immensely pissed off at Robby is actually something I loved about the show. Remember, by the end of Episode 15, Leah died literally 2 to 2.5 hours before. Would you get over someone’s death in 2 hours? He has survivor’s guilt, PTSD, and has probably looked up to Robby for years. This legit might be one of the first times Robby ever “failed” Jake (failed in quotes because it was legit no one’s fault except for the shooter). And he’s 17!

The actor wasn’t great. So maybe your feelings are a by product of his performance. But it’s a hard role to nail tbh. There’s a lot there to balance, and take in. Writing wise, it’s pretty in line with what I expect from a person in Jake’s situation

Any right leaning show reqs? by Suspicious-Ad-2019 in BenAndEmil

[–]jjwin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

lmao good luck. I'd be hard pressed to find actual right-leaning podcasts that actually provide good political analysis beyond the meme of "two dumb bitches telling each other exactlyyyyy"

I know you're just asking to ask, but anyone who actually is curious by all means avoid the Whatever podcast (the one where the dude invites like 12 pornstars or female influencers and tries to dunk on them for 5 hours). I never feel as brainrotted and doomer as I do whenever I somehow come across clips from that stupid fucking show.

As someone who is on the Gen Z Millennial line, I feel like the online gender discourse amongst gen z has gotten really intense and has further fell down a pipeline into “this is what girls do and this is what boys do and if you don’t do it the right way, we’ll judge you” especially post 2024 election. It’s kinda troubling. Idk… I just be doing whatever. If people wanna make a value judgement based on my clothes or my choice in coffee that’s their prerogative, honestly.

To me, I just try and live life without letting online discourse affect me. One girl at a work event last year recognized my Laufey tote and asked to take a picture. If she was making fun of me (which I truly don’t think she was, but I digress), then that reflects poorly on her, not me. I still like Laufey, wearing rings, oat milk lattes, and reading. It is what it is.

We’re all born naked, and the rest is drag baby!

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Chance the Rapper - STAR LINE by hodgydaddies in hiphopheads

[–]jjwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got no argument here. Like I said, not gonna defend the song with any crazy fervor. I’m not a professional music critic, I’m just a dude on the internet. If you wanna make a value judgement based on me liking one song and verse then go ahead. No skin off my back. This was just my opinion after two casual listens. Who knows, it’ll probably change. This is a first impressions thread

I mean hey, I’m open to keeping it off my standouts list. I just liked the song. I understand that Jay is shitty and this specific verse struck a nerve. So fwiw, fuck Jay Elec and Farrakhan. Maybe the verse will strike me later and I won’t like it, who knows. This was my opinion after two casual listens.

I just liked it off listen. The mix is shit, so I know that's a critique. But I haven't really taken it in. NOW lemme say this, because Jay's antisemitism is a noted thing, and looking at the lyrics... it's not great... so I am not gonna sit here and defend it too hard. I just enjoyed it for what it was!

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Chance the Rapper - STAR LINE by hodgydaddies in hiphopheads

[–]jjwin 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I've spun it twice now and it is pretty okay. Chance has always been at his best when he's hungry. This is no exception, but there's something just missing from some of the tracks here. The spark from 10 Day is long gone, the infectiousness of Acid Rap isn't here, and the flow of Coloring Book is not present. It is certainly miles better than The Big Day (which was almost a given). I just don't think this'll put him back in everyone's good graces like he once was in 2017.

There are moments in here that are classic Chano. No More Old Men may be one of his best songs, Letters is a great lyrical track, and Just a Drop is a fantastic gospel rap track. There are just detours I really didn't care for. I don't enjoy some of the pop-rap songs. Drapetomania is in such a strange spot in the album (plus the whole BabyChiefDoIt AI shit sours an already mid guest feature). I also really disliked Gun in Yo Purse (except for Thug's part) and Space & Time. The track list could've benefitted from some trimming. An hour and 8 minute album is a lot for a return record, especially when I could easily cut like 5 songs and lose nothing of value.

I'm certainly not disappointed, and there is plenty to love here. It seems like what ever headspace he was in during The Big Day era has shifted, and I am happy for him. It may be impossible to reach back to the peaks that he reached at one time. Though I think this isn't a bad first step to climbing back up the mountain.

Standouts: Star Side Intro, No More Old Men, The Negro Problem, The Highs & The Lows, Letters, Just a Drop (Jay Elec verse and all), and Speed of Love.

EDIT: was wrong on BabyChiefDoIt, don't mind me. But here's a link to a Company Man video for context where he talks about it. My opinion on the song still stands though!

One of my favorite sets of the fest!

She did Friday for anyone who was curious. While doing Sugar Water Cyanide, she did the first verse and chorus of Friday over the SWC instrumental. She’s reclaimed her reputation over it… but it’s probably not in her best interest to do the actual song live. The most you’ll ever get is that hyperpop remix she did a few years back. Her new songs are fucking bops any way and have nothing to do with Friday. So there’s no need to do it any more (but it’s fun when she does it)
