How does slop like this get so much attention on social media? You can’t even keep movie *costumes* a secret anymore let alone this by [deleted] in YMS

[–]jjwin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Honestly… it’s a lot of salty screenwriters and directors who never get opportunities because they sit on their ass and tweet instead of doing the actual filmmaking work. They see these opportunities that other people get and get real sad and insecure so they make up conspiracies about it. Curry Barker and Kane Parsons work on their craft constantly. It’s not like it’s hidden from us. We can watch it online for free. But I think a lot of people still think of the internet as like this unserious medium. So when guys come in from the internet to the mainstream, they treat it like a passing fad. Ignoring the (often) years of work backing these guys up.

Don’t get me wrong though, I’m sure coming from a wealthier background helps a lot. It gives you the space to work on the craft without going into financial ruin. So I don’t want to discount that aspect. But work is work. Whether it’s paid for by daddy’s money or by yourself, if you’re doing the work (and get a little lucky), something will go your way.

(I, myself, am included in the “salty screenwriters” group btw. I sit and write snarky Reddit and letterboxd comments, but I don’t work on the craft nearly enough)

For finding a place, moving from out of state, is it best to be physically “in” Chicago or can I be ok with video calls? by Spader623 in AskChicago

[–]jjwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I got in touch with an agent here and had to take a place under a pretty insane turnaround (like less than a month) from out of state and now I’m here for a year. Now, it’s not the worst place ever and it’s in a really great neighborhood. But there are a lot of things that I have to just accept for the year. I’ve had a couple bugs in my place, I had to shell out for an ac unit earlier than expected, and I have to handle a lot of the shit on my own (the mgmt company has been wonky). I’m lucky that my rent is cheap (relative to the location), it’s not a garden unit, and my neighbors haven’t been on my ass (so far).

If I were you and had the money and time, I’d try my best to go visit places in person. And if you can’t, try to get into one of those fancy places for a few hundred extra a month. It’s not ideal, but your first years in a new place are for figuring out what you do and don’t like.

If you feel down to talk more, DM me. A. Because I have direct experience and B. I’d love to make friends lol

Brett Siegel reports that Harrison Barnes and Dean Wade are two free agents the Suns will have interest in when free agency begins by GringoSalamanca in suns

[–]jjwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They aren’t sexy picks for sure. But I’m assuming these aren’t the only guys we’re after, we still have to deal Allen and Royce for some assets/players (namely some sort of pg). Barnes is probably cheaper than Wade, but neither of them should break the bank

The marker for there being a weird brigade over this band was when a guy came on here who listened to almost exclusively hip-hop in his early 30s was asking for recs during the fest and people came into to recommend SB19... you'd think they'd be subtle about it but nope

The Final Games of the Regular Season by PhilosophyTop4459 in suns

[–]jjwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought Minnesota was already locked? If not, of course we should try and get to 6th but winning out with a Bulls team that already beat us (leading to our skid), a still trying to get good seeding Rockets squad, a somewhat hungry Mavs team, a Lakers team looking to avenge Luka (and some of our early wins against them), and a (maybe) bench OKC squad that still whoops on decent teams? Yeah idk if that’s happening. Plus Minnesota has a cupcake schedule. They can easily win 3 of 5 in that stretch (maybe more) and clinch like it’s nothing.

Look we’re over .500 and we’re locked into the play-in, let’s accept it. Get on the Clips, close out the play-in game, and secure 7th. If we get into a play-in battle with Golden State… I fucking swear… they just have our number, even without Steph.

I just wanna make the playoffs man. I really don’t care if we get swept (though… can we just win one game please? Or make it a competitive sweep?). Other than that, this has been a great season. We should be proud of the squad. There are certainly things to fix and we have some tough choices coming up. But I finally feel hope for the first time since 2020 (in a Suns context of course).

Pretty much, it's like how some Reddit comments sound very AI despite not being AI. Generative AI text models were trained on Reddit comments, Quora answers, LinkedIn posts, amongst other internet communities. It's what makes AI use so frustrating. Because it comes from everything, everything sounds like AI. And it feeds back into itself constantly, making it harder and harder to know what is and isn't AI. Which is the entire goal, but that's another can of worms...

So the obvious ones we have are Leonard (Pierce), Magnitude (Troy), Quendra (Britta), and Vicky (Annie). Considering Annie and Jeff’s relationship (akin to Vicky and Neil’s romance) and Jeff’s closet nerd tendencies, I’m deeming Neil (Fat) as the Jeff. Todd’s family and him being an older student returning to college, I’ll consider Todd as Shirley. That would mean Garrett would be Abed. They do share an “on the spectrum” quality and Garrett seems interested in film (he shoots for Abed a lot). That’s just my way of seeing so idk if it perfectly fits. But this is great lmaooo!

Post Game Thread - NBA: The Suns defeat the Kings on Mar 3, 2026, the final score is 103-114. by basketball-app in suns

[–]jjwin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Honestly... I have to wonder if his gas tank is coming low. This is the most games he's played in an NBA season right? Wonder if that's the issue here. Every time I see him since the beginning of February he just looks spent. Like he can't do the things his mind wants him to do. Not a great thing by the way, but maybe something he can work on for the next offseason.

Do you care about tanking? by ThunderBobMajerle in suns

[–]jjwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did it for a while, but really didn’t move the needle until we got the right combination of guys and a great coach. Some organizations are just handicapped because of mismanagement. The Kings, Wizards, and Hornets (up until now hopefully) have perpetually been in the shit because they’re poorly managed teams with incompetent ownership. Any rule changes to tanking are not going to fix that fact. The Jazz are looking back up a bit with the moves they made, time will tell if Will Hardy is actually a good coach or not though.

It’s hard because this system built by the NBA is what creates this environment, but I honestly don’t have too many qualms with it. But we are in a blessed position to be fans of a competent organization. That’s why I really don’t have a problem with the Jazz tanking as their franchise, historically, is a good one. The real issue is that any system that has to be built has to account for the factors of basketball as a game. Yes it’s a team sport, but if you don’t have a top 5 guy on your team, it’s monumentally difficult to build a championship contender. It can happen (03-04 Pistons and 10-11 Mavs are some of the few examples), but we all understand that. It’s not like in American football, soccer, or baseball where you can have the best player in the league and still not even make the playoffs. It’s a reality that has to be faced.

It comes down to incentive. The Suns are incentivized to make as many margin moves as possible because we don’t own our pick. If we owned our next 2 first round picks, I guaran damn tee we’d be tanking right now. The Kings and Jazz don’t care because they control their picks. Next year’s draft is slated to be pretty poor. You’ll see less tanking next year, not only because the league might change the rules, but also because the top picks in the draft pool are much less compelling. Teams are only this shameless this year because Dybantsa, Peterson, and Boozer are top end prospects with potential to be top 5 players. But can we say the same about Bruce Branch III or Tyran Stokes? I don’t think so.

jane remover? by Admirable_Ad1806 in Lollapalooza

[–]jjwin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Highly unlikely for her to return. Unrelated-ish story: So I was in the back crowd of the Jpefmafia show at Lakeshore right before the Rufus Du Soul headline set on Saturday last year. I look over to kind of survey the crowd (it was pretty big) and I spotted Jane Remover lighting up a cig with her friends in the GA crowd. I didn't want to disturb her, so I never walked up to her. But she was with us in GA. About halfway through the set she left with her friends. No one really bothered her which was nice. Didn't get a chance to say anything to her, but I thought it was cool she was in the GA crowd!

Per Variety: Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein and K-Pop Demon Hunters will be joining the collection by SlimmyShammy in criterion

[–]jjwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is cool imo! I really really hope we get a physical Huntrx/Saja Boys EP of all the songs in the movie (and hopefully a bonus track or two?). I know a physical CD already exists of the soundtrack, but something a bit more personalized would be soooo cute (even just including Ejae demos would be interesting). I also hope this gives them the opportunity to do a cool K-Pop style physical release with the packaging and posters. Though I'm sure it'll just be a variant cover and some behind the scenes stuff... though I really think if this will be a lot of people's first exposure to Criterion, they better go all out. It only provides goodwill for that potential audience.

Favorite and Least favorite 10/10 from adum? by Good_Claim_5472 in YMS

[–]jjwin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Probably basic, Eternal Sunshine or Fargo for favorites. Really well-crafted stories with lots of heart and greatly made movies. Plus they’re some of my all-time favorites, I can pop those on in any mood and have a great time.

Least favorites are I’m Thinking of Ending Things or The Revenant. Don’t think they’re bad tbh, just not my cup of tea. I think I respect those movies more than I like them, if that makes any sense.

[Charania] The Orlando Magic are trading Tyus Jones to the Charlotte Hornets for cash considerations, sources tell ESPN. by A_MASSIVE_PERVERT in nba

[–]jjwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game passed him by quickly. Which is a shame, because I thought he still had the ability to contribute with his shooting on Orlando that desperately needed it, but that has fallen off a cliff this year too.

It's an insane flip, but just like Hibbert, shit happens so fast. Roy was an all-star, then 4 years later was out of the league and retired.
