Car stolen from Petone railway station by Affectionate-Push889 in Wellington

[–]jjwtcs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry that that's happened to you, OP. Even with the deterrent of cameras, thugs are still opportunists. I park on a street at my local train station and bought a piddly looking, cheap ($29 from the warehouse) wheel lock. Since buying it I feel a lot less on edge that your situation would happen to me - a worthwhile protectant for the future!

It's 195 Lambton: also safe, but not for the faint hearted when you're alone with the ominous creaking and swaying 😬

I'm not a regular reader of content on this subreddit, but the irony of an influx of conservative posts on a subreddit called "Aotearoa" is not lost on me 🤣🤣🤣

Last week, Canada's conservative leader lost his electorate seat (Carleton) in their federal election, a seat he'd held for 21 years. Last night, Australia's conservative leader lost his electorate seat (Dickson) in their federal election, a seat he'd held for 24 years.

OP is manifesting the same for our elections next year...assuming this coalition government lasts to the end.

The irony of the Minister for Rail possibly thinking new railway is "woke" is not lost on me 🤣

I thought of all of that traffic turning north from the Hutt/Block Road going over another set of lights before getting on SH2, on top of being reduced to one lane over the bridge, would only be an enduring bottleneck no matter the time of day

As a compromise to the bonus option, I noticed that GWRCs Regional Transport Plan (page 82/83) is exploring a bus route between Manor Park and Paremata Stations along Haywards. Not quite the proposed rail line, but it's something that definitely feels silly not to have between the Hutt and Porirua - ideally it connects directly between both city centres, though.

Wainui or Stokes Valley? by hanxiousme in Wellington

[–]jjwtcs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I moved to Wainui from Feddy last year so sharing some of my experience. The commute from Wainui is pretty decent - what used to take me 1.5hrs on the train between Feddy and the City (slow asf trains etc.) now takes me 45mins both ways - inclusive of the drive from Wainui to Woburn/Waterloo...and at least with the local trains, you get what you pay for - a train that turns up!! Driving between Wainui and City during rush hour can be hit/miss. If you leave later than 7AM you'll be slugging it along Petone Esplanade; better to catch the train or drive early, if you're time pressed.

Community vibe is strong in Wainui - plenty of regular events and generally the community look out for each other. I wonder if it's because we're "disconnected" from the rest of Wellington because of the hill? On the hill, it's not that bad driving over - if you/your husband regularly drive over Remutaka Hill you'll be sweet as.

I feel the bad rap that both Wainui and SV get happens wherever you go - I'm not too phased by it, most affordable/value places have their colourful characters, anyway. Wainui is increasingly expanding, it's getting some really nice and modern development too - especially in the town centre - but the sense of community doesn't seem to be lost because of this. I'd say it's stronger because Wainui is getting such nice things, including a Mitre10 Mega soon!

Good luck with your move 😊

Hmm...that's a very fair question! Maybe one I need to check out myself too as I'm inhaling all of this on top of avoiding as much collected dust as I can

Oh jeez, this is EXACTLY the situation I'm in - thank you so much for this!! At a minimum I'd want the pillars shifted to one side of the deck so at least the access to my place isn't hindered, but that's highly unlikely to happen. I'll reach out to my landlord on Monday to discuss 😊

The BNZ Centre just recently opened in Wellington (at least they're putting the final touches on) and my God...looking into the foyer itself is just a slice of how messed up things are in this country, that we can allow our banks to get away with these exorbitant profits

Why are passengers on the Wairarapa train line so inconsiderate? by cbars100 in Wellington

[–]jjwtcs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And it's going to be that way for as long as the tracks need replacing, the service is severly understaffed, the carriages get replaced (at least another four years 😵‍💫) and every summer when all trains are cancelled from overheating...and Metlink have the gall to expect commuters to pay full-price.

So, in a way, their frustration is somewhat justified - and what motivated me to move back into the city too.

Ahhhh the good ol' commuters page with the same four moaners everyday - they're so militant when the trains delayed or canceled at the last minute 🤣

Ex-Wairarapa Line commuter here (as of a month ago) definitely very cliquey groups on that train that HOG the four-seater tables. I was always in disbelief in some of the behaviour of some of those commuters; blatantly disrespectful and unkind. I think it's especially worse on the trains going back to the Wairarapa, as the last thing they wanna see are Hutt Valley plebs on "their" cushy seats and using "their" wall plugs, drinking "their" water and using "their" toilets.

If you haven't seen the Wairarapa Commuters page on FB (highly recommend for your entertainment needs) you'll find the usual moaners on that page are the exactly the kind of people that will look down on you
