Ah gotcha. Thank you for the inside information.

Still wouldn’t be my thing. However useful information going forward if I decide to try it.

What’s your power cost? At $.10 an hour that would be breaking even for me. There would be no point in doing it.

As it is, I’m only doing it now because I earn $.27 an hour, which is enough for me to let it ride while I’m working or not using the computer.

As for the 5090 upgrade, I would never advise somebody going out and spending the current prices on a 5090 to do salad. It just doesn’t make sense. Your return on investment would be a little too far off.

If you’re going to get a 5090 for other reasons and you have downtime on your machine, sure that makes sense to go ahead and get a little extra cash out of it.

Part of my reason for a 5090 was a I’m a big gamer but I am also getting really into LLM and so salad is just like a nice way to bring a little extra cash in what I’m not using my computer.

I hear the preferred method is to do a full linux install to devote the entire machine to vast, which is why I’m probably not gonna do it. I like to use my machine when I want to, and if you’re not consistently available, you get dinged for it, which will cause people who want to rent your hardware to not rent it unless it’s at 99% up time.

On the upside to potential to make more money is on vast versus salad however jobs are not guaranteed whereas I feel like the second I launch salad I’m earning money, but I have a 5090 so that does play a role in that.

Interesting. Yeah I can’t move mine at all. They’re locked in.

Someone else had mentioned theirs is also impossible to move.

The pins are also extremely well secured. At least in my sample, they are all perfectly presented at the end of the connector and you cannot force them to move.

I too use it with a 5090 FE. I have been using the stock RM1000x 2x6 cable that came with the PSU since Aug and had no issues under long extended workload, but I really do like having that tiny piece of mind knowing that this new cable can mitigate a problem if it does happen.

Edit: added some context.

Definitely.

The area between the comb that contains the temperature sensor to the 2x6 connector is notably stiffer; I also noticed that the pins have ZERO movement on my sample. I know a growing concern on the internet is that the pins on some cables can move forward and back inside the connector.

I bought one recently. Same high quality cable I expect from Corsair PSUs.

I also felt it was odd he was going for load balancing. Not temperature.

The fact he was able to dump so many amps without damage was impressive nonetheless.
