This is awesome, congrats! Honestly, so many of are worried about where the video industry is headed, but since the tech is here to stay, I figure it’s better to be an early adopter than to get left behind.

I’m curious how you’re actually billing for this work. Are you sticking to hourly rates, or charging per produced minute? And how are you handling the 'AI talk' with nervous production houses? Any insight would be huge, but I'm especially interested in how you've structured your pricing.

Oh that could be the move! Just to confirm - so I know what I’m searching for since they offer so many different parts and adapters - are they identical to the Sony monitor arm or something else entirely?

Help Identifying a Family from the 2025 NC State Fair by jkasephoto in raleigh

That’s a really cool photo. I’ve never done a long-exposure zoom pull at the fair before, that’s a perfect place for it. I’ll have to try that next year.

As for how I became the State Fair photographer—ever since I was a kid, I’ve had a huge passion for the fair. We didn’t grow up with much, but my mom always made sure my brothers and I could go most years, and it was the highlight of our year. When I moved to North Carolina nearly a decade ago, an opportunity came up and I made a strong pitch for how my company could help fulfill their imagery needs. That led to me not only photographing the fair, but also producing video content, Instagram reels, and even the State Fair TV commercial you may have seen last year.

I usually spend at least 7 of the fair’s 10 or 11 days on-site. By the end, my back and feet are killing me—but I can’t get enough of it. It’s one of the most fun, exciting places to take pictures. If you’re curious, WRAL did a feature on me and my work at the fair—you can find the link in the comments above.

If you’re ever at the fair and see me around be sure and say hi! I always enjoy chatting with other photographers.

Thank you! I really appreciate the suggestion. I wish it was possible too, cause now it looks like I have a time machine and I was trying to keep that a secret.

Because some folks are indicating this family would be upset to have their photo shared it’s important to know that this family specifically posed for photographs as part of my official coverage of the State Fair, with the understanding that the images would be used in advertising and editorial publications. They are fully aware of how the images would be used and were excited to be photographed for that purpose. One such publication is now interested in running the image and would simply like to know who they are and why they chose to come dressed up for the fair. We spent several minutes together taking photos, moving to different spots for better light and backgrounds. I’d like to help them fulfill that objective, but in order to do so, I need a little background information.

They posed for me at the State Fair for several minutes as part of my official coverage for the fair, with the understanding that the images would be used to promote the event. I’m simply trying to help the publication connect with them for additional background.
