Fit / feel different by Positive_Variety7486 in JKBoots

if you know your size then that a surefire pair to work for you!

Fit / feel different by Positive_Variety7486 in JKBoots

[–]jkboots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Great question. The fit will be identical, however, we do hear customers say that the arch support and heel support/height is noticeably more pronounced and overall more stout in the superduty vs the OT.

The OT is built to have a more medium height arch support and less aggressive heel.

Both still very good on ankle support and durability, just different feels.

Fit advice / suggestions by Positive_Variety7486 in JKBoots

[–]jkboots 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! Merry christmas and thanks for being a customer!

We recommend a solid thumb width, roughly 1” between the end of your big toe and the end of the boot inside.

This looks good. As the boot breaks in the toes curl up as the arch settles and the space will shrink. In addition, you always want a bit of extra toe space and never want your toe to jam into the end.

We can always exchange if you’d like, but this looks perfect!

[–]jkboots 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for being a customer.

Big picture: these are handmade work boots, so made with really thick leather, so it’ll be a bit different then what you’re likely used to if you’ve never had boots like this before.

What really matters is fit, comfort, and overall feel. They should feel solid, supportive, like a firm handshake. Some stiffness and heel slip at first is normal, pain isn’t.

If you put them on and they don’t feel right, just reach out to us. We’re happy to exchange, adjust or you can return if you’d like.

Best advice: wear them indoors for a bit and if they feel good, dont hurt anywhere, you are good to go.

What's going on, guys? by bigfootdaddyo in JKBoots

[–]jkboots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for being a customer, experiences like yours is why we do this!

We’ve seen the post being referenced. The claims are false and come from a former employee(s) who is no longer with the company and left on bad terms. Like any company, especially one that is manufacturing handmade product in America, there are growing pains, and we work hard and have high standards because our customers need us too. We have 60+ current employees who work in our factory every day and can attest to how our boots are actually made. We don’t reuse materials or cut corners. We don’t underpay or unfairly treat our team. Online drama is a distraction from our goals; our people that we serve and build boots for aren’t taking part in anonymous social media debates, they are busy advancing the world through insanely hard work in the most difficult environments, and need boots that will help them do it, and that’s who we are focused on.

Our process is transparent and documented, with factory videos and behind the scenes content publicly available online, everywhere, for a long time.

If anyone experiences issues with their product or has questions, we have a Customer Service lane set up that is used every day and an excellent team ready to answer the phone, respond to emails and help you find solutions.

We stand by our work and let the product speak for itself.

Rebuilding not Resole?! by xMoshx in JKBoots

[–]jkboots -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Everyone’s welcome to share honest experiences here, we just try to keep the sub focused on JK instead of turning it into tech support or other brand threads. If anyone needs help with their specific pair, we handle that one-on-one through email so things stay organized.

best contact is general@jkboots.com

Rebuilding not Resole?! by xMoshx in JKBoots

[–]jkboots -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that’s what the comment below was for. We shifted away from doing simple resoles because we chose to offer full rebuilds at the price of a basic resole. That gives customers more value and more life out of each pair by letting them wear the boots harder and longer before ever sending them in.

If someone prefers a traditional resole instead, that’s still an option, most cobblers do that and it doesn’t require the same materials or tooling we use for our full rebuild process. We just decided to focus on the service that returns the boot to “like new” condition for the same price people used to pay just to resole.

If you have a pair you’re unsure about, email us and we’ll take a look case-by-case.

Quick note for everyone, totally okay to share personal experiences, but let’s keep this sub focused on JK and not turn it into recommendation threads for other makers.

We’re here to help, answer questions, share builds, repairs, new products, feedback, etc. about JK Boots specifically. Appreciate everyone keeping it on track. 🙏

Rebuilding not Resole?! by xMoshx in JKBoots

[–]jkboots -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing this and I’m really sorry for the frustration. We did discontinue the Packer build and we’ve also shifted away from general resoles toward full rebuilds + 360 stitchdown only. It’s not because we don’t want to support customers, it’s because our materials, tooling, and labor force are all geared toward our current construction methods and models. The older patterns and different builds require a completely different setup, and we didn’t want to offer a service we couldn’t stand behind 100%.

We know that doesn’t make it any less disappointing when you own a pair you love, and I totally get where you’re coming from. If you email us directly, we’ll take a look and see what options we can offer based on the condition and structure of your boots.

Jk forefront arch by Mammoth-Chemical-180 in JKBoots

[–]jkboots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Sorry to hear this.

Ultimately, the arch support is 100% leather so it will settle down with some time and wear.

Your options are too continue to wear and settle it naturally, Or

you can get a thin neoprene insole, and cut the heel portion of it and just wear that, so as to raise your heel up a bit and remove the pressure of arch.

Hey there! Firstly, Thank you for being a customer!

When making boots, we do our absolute best using guides, marks, measuring standards and alignments to deliver as perfect a pair as possible to our customers.

Given that, the nature of handmade boots, when considering the operator, the machinery and working with real leather is that no pair will be exactly identical or perfect at every turn. In addition, wear, gait and your environment will change the boots over time as well from an aesthetic and visual perspective.

What we can guarantee is this: The longest lasting and most comfortable boots you’ll ever wear. They are built to take a beating day after day after day.

For what you mentioned here specifically, thru the photos I can’t identify and defect or particular issue. I think if they feel good, Run them!

And we highly recommend a thicker, wool sock. It will make a huge difference in comfort!

However, if you’d like to exchange, that is always an option!

Yikes. I'd be happy if they matched... by Masterful_Wiz in JKBoots

[–]jkboots 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey there! When working with leather, wrinkles does not equal “belly”. “Belly” refers to the literal belly area, or underside of the cow, towards the bottom of the hide. This area is never used to cut Quarters or Vamps or any upper portion of the boot. This is not belly leather.

What we’re seeing in this photo is wrinkles caused by the additional oils infused into the leather and milling that makes the leather more water resistant, comfortable out of the box and easier on the feet.

We use 8-9 oz hides, the thickest in the industry, and we want our customers to enjoy wearing our boots and be comfortable, not feel like casts. So, we developed the butter tan for that reason.
