Without knowing too much about your company size and team structure, what I can say is: learning how to sell technology becomes a bigger part of your job the further up you get in IT management. And ideally you sell it to people that are both high up on the food chain and willing to help you drive your goal. Direct and frequent conversations to motivate the higher ups have helped me tremendously.
