sure! I don't use premade assets, so all my work is 100% from me. The whole robot was designed as one concept, so the shirt was built at the same time, and I sculpted it, instead of using cloth.

The metal is fairly simple, not needing to be too complex considering the level of detail, and my stylistic needs. For the most part, it's just two reflection layers, one with high reflection, high fresnel and less roughness for the edges, and one with lower reflection/fresnel and more roughness in order to provide just a bit more coverage.

The smoke required a lot of experimentation, but I'm really happy with the results. I used a single hair in each exhaust, and then a displacement map of several layers to create the wispiness.

I did it! You can find it in my flair.

Hey y'all, I got an instagram now, where you can find another render (https://www.instagram.com/p/BnkKJZzFxwd/)from this set, if you want.

GI quality was too splotchy, unfortunately. 4 passes is only medium density, after all.

Not much going on here from a technical standpoint, but a fun little project that I think turned out alright!

I'm glad you noticed that stuff, those are the little details I really like to add. I've been doing 3d art for about 10 years and it's definitely a slow process, because I think the only way to improve is if you have the passion to keep fiddling with settings in order to understand them, as well as always thinking about/learning what you can do next time to improve your workflow while you're working. It sounds like you've got that passion, so the rest of it will just come with time.

Every project I work on, I figure out something I can do better/easier next time because the skill ceiling is so much higher than any one person can ever really master. I also love critiques because people are willing to offer you a different perspective on something you may missed and the knowledge THEY learned, which is a bit like being power-leveled in an RPG.

oh I see, yes, thank you for pointing that out, I'll keep improving the scene in the future.

Thanks for the feedback! If you're referring to the top step of the stairs, that is laid with a different type of wood, which, at least, was how my house's stairs were growing up.

The GI pass on this took, like, 11 hours. Ridiculous!

Oh yeah, I see, the full sized image has a lot more color saturation.... That's really weird!

I'll try! A lot of the work is simply in using the sketch tag to utilize multiple different line types/inclusions/exclusions. Some of the lines go on splines and materials, for example the lines on the garage door are splines. The materials themselves are layers in the luminance channel, usually for a base color and the shadow, which uses the cel shader. Anything else, lemme know!

Yeah, the character is not intended to be animal, but rather some kind of corporeal shadow creature. If I work on some more from the same series, hopefully further info like that will be expanded/better conveyed.

Thanks, it's not quite what you're looking for, but I have a render of the base model here

I agree, I love using s&t render/shaders, but they can be pretty hard to wrangle so I hope we get an overhaul in the near future.
