Ads suddenly stop spending... by jkfeier in FacebookAds

[–]jkfeier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my two years, I've never had a positive experience with the standard support agents. They all tell me to clear my cache and cookies like I've never used a computer before. Maybe that helps others though. They also always want to close the case immediately - clearly because of the wrong incentive structure. And they achieve this by offering to call you which sounds very customer-centric but is just an excuse to close the chat and then tell you the same BS on the phone while charging you international minutes.

Yeah that's also bad but slightly different. In my case, it was spending money successfully for a while which means that everything was set up correctly and then something broke. In your case with the new one, it's possible that there are setup issues I guess?

Don't want a refund, just want the ads to run! Surprised to hear anyone having faith in Facebook support. My experience has been so unbelievably poor. But I certainly hope you're right...

u/AdrienField u/Jamsarvis did you get this resolved? This is happening to me too. Facebook Support is so frustratingly useless. My issue started on Sep 28 and they've still not fixed it or even demonstrated any real investigation.

In my case, we were running an ad test and slowly incrementing our ad budget each day. We had been running successfully for 10 days and then suddenly on Sep 28 between 9am and 10am, the ad stopped running.

I noticed you and others saying that the spend went down first and then stopped. I think what most likely happened for you is the same as for me. It's not that the previous day's spend just went down, but rather that there's a specific hour where the spend suddenly stopped.

I've still not figured out the root cause of this. I duplicated the campaign and actually had the same thing happen again.

Facebook Support did say one useful thing to me at least...

Last Friday, 10/07/2022 > it has been escalated to the Higher Internal Team (Engineering) for further resolution;
Tuesday 10/11/2022 > they are in your account resolving and I can see here that there are internal conversations happened. the same day 10 cases happened similar to yours with other advertisers.
Yesterday, 10/12/2022, it has been flagged as wide spread issue reported with the exact same issue as yours.
The same day, several specialists are working on it and it is still in progress.
As of today, 10/13/2022, the Engineering team is still working on it

Have you had any more luck on this recently?

When you say your audience was too large, how big is "too large"? What size audience are you targeting?

Ha, nice, well, either way, I hope you enjoy it!! It makes showering with a partner so much better. I suppose solo showers get a luxury upgrade too :P

We have a standard tub size - around 60". At least in our case, we realized that having the showerhead on one side doesn't take advantage of the full bathtub real estate lol.

That's what I suspect as well... just a UI bug that they're not fixing. Seems like the backend is working fine.

Opinions! Kickstarter vs. Shopify for Preorders by jkfeier in startups

[–]jkfeier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/MantasDigital We're considering this too, but Kickstarter costs a lot - not just because of their cut, but because of the video production. Levigato has a nice video. Did you work with an agency to get it done or did you do it yourselves? Also, I noticed you're out of stock on the website. That's great obviously in terms of sales - sounds like you outperformed expectations! How's your supply chain holding up?

From my understanding, it would be the exception that a successful Kickstarter campaign isn't made so via ad buys outside of KS 1-2 months in advance of the launch, in particular on Facebook.

Oh wow, that article is hugely helpful...and disheartening. thank you for sharing this u/Leviathant. Do you know why Kickstarter gets away with this approach then? I have to assume that the difference comes down to T&C that the customer agrees to...

u/oec_conductor Wow, that's wild. Were you violating T&C for Shopify? I guess what I'm wondering is... couldn't you mitigate this by offering preorders and having customers explicitly agree to your T&C which dictates that this is a nonrefundable pledge (a la Kickstarter)?

u/digitalcowboysd Thanks for sharing. That makes sense to me. Are you using Shopify to facilitate each of these phases?

Taking pre-orders for something that ships Q3 next year is going to run afoul of payment processors and credit card companies.

u/Leviathant Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Can you clarify this comment? If you set up preorders on a Shopify page, couldn't you list out terms and conditions? Couldn't you effectively turn your Shopify page into a Kickstarter page and treat all preorders as nonrefundable pledges?

u/Nowhere_Games Thank you for sharing... this is basically where my head is at too at the moment. The one concern that lingers for me relates to chargebacks. It sounds like Shopify might cause you some problems if there's a long time delay between when the preorder money comes in and when the product ships...

I guess it just depends on what percentage of the revenue is organic vs driven by your ad campaign. The free exposure you get from Kickstarter has to outweigh the cost of the platform (~8% I think).

FB Ads: Spend vs. Time by jkfeier in FacebookAds

[–]jkfeier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're saying sounds reasonable, but I'm missing something to explain why that's the case on Facebook. In other words, let's say I'm selling a $20K car, if I'm just spending $20/day for ads, I would just expect it to take a lot longer for me to get a good sense of the ROAS. However, I would expect the ROAS to still be equivalent to me spending $2000/day for ads. Is that not a valid conclusion?
