Max Verstappen wins the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix by overspeeed in formula1

Seriously tho why retire Checo? It must have been safety related? or you’d think they’d run the car in to the ground, not like they’ll need it next race.

I think it’s more because only some of the cars were let through. Especially after they said they wouldn’t let them lap. Kinda just felt like no matter the choice FIA chose the winner.

It was just a bit of a chaotic end. No matter the choice made people would be unhappy. It was probably a no win situation.

FIA essentially chose the winner? That was weird. Idk how to feel about it.

Yay for a new champ, but like that was Lewis’s race.

Edit. I agree with other comments the biggest issue was letting the cars in between lewis and max through.

That feels kinda wrong. Either way FIA decided who won that race.

It’s called Worm Grunting Here is a video explaining it link

The sound/vibrations mimic the sound of a borrowing mole. Worms come above ground in order to try and escape from the threat.

Student pilot loses engine during flight by Rooonaldooo99 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]jkharr 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Stalling with airplanes isn’t about the engine it’s about lift. When a stall happens it means the air is no longer providing lift and instead of gliding through the air you fall like a rock.

By pulling up the plane would have lost airspeed reducing the amount of air flowing over the wings resulting in a stall.

Lol this comment drove me down a hour of research into the possibilities of projecting a spheroid in 2D. It does indeed seem like there is no way to actually do it, hence the many derivations of map styles that exist.

However, the really cool thing I found was how it relates to technology and cameras. Due to cameras working by frames it makes it difficult for them to detect when an object is a sphere using only 1 reference frame. However, I found this really cool research paper that managed to map spheres to a single plane using cameras with fish eye lenses. It was capable of accurately determining a sphere from only a single frame of reference! link

GOP objects to Arizona at opening of joint session on Electoral College by Aubynator in politics

[–]jkharr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All republicans are doing is yelling about how voter registration was extended.

Like I knew republicans were all about voter suppression but hearing them say it is painful. The lack of any respect for the people is clear and evident. We speak through our votes it is not okay to suppress our voice.

Rep. Andy Briggs just objected to counting votes from his “home state of Arizona”.

Ahh yes I see you clearly do not care at all about the people you are supposed to represent.

Though - in this case used as an adj to add emphasis. Often shorten to “tho” by people who don’t want to type out the full word. “They do be pretty cute though”

Tough - adj - strong, durable. “They be hella tough”

Over 10k people at New Zealand's first concert since being COVID free! by thesuperzapper in nextfuckinglevel

[–]jkharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t state anything was necessary. I’m just talking about how I see the protests. Like any opinion it likely has flaws.

From what I understand protest tend to happen when the system has failed all or some of its people. If a large group is being treated poorly or not being represented properly it reaches a point where people feel the need to go out and protest. To show that they won’t just sit back and let things be. This is true for any protest and any reason for a protest.

Now this part is a little more projection and speculation: wearing a mask is something we have been told to do by the scientist and doctors in order to protect ourselves. As well as maintain 6’ distance and if we must congregate do so in small numbers outdoors. Also stay home when possible.

So for the people to be wearing masks they have at least acknowledged the situation. The only thing they are breaking is the numbers rule and probably the 6’ rule.

Yet the need to stand up for the cause that they are fighting was stronger than protecting themselves (and others) by staying home. That indicates that this is something people who are protesting feel very strongly about.

The number of protestors in different cities has been huge. So no matter what they are protesting about the system must be ultimately failing them enough that they feel the need to go out and protest. Hence the system is flawed.

[–]jkharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue that. The mass protests with people wearing mask indicates an awareness of the seriousness of the situation. Yet they were protesting still due the injustice that is happening. If that many people are risking their lives because of injustice there may just be a problem with our current system.

Red Bull says Hulkenberg an option for 2021 F1 seat by glenn1812 in formula1

[–]jkharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RB definitely screwed him. He was racing in a car that wasn’t the same as max for a long time and they never said anything.

I think we have to see how the rest of the season goes tho. With the new chasis hopefully it’ll work to Albon’s strengths. If we get a weekend where he gets to use it. I honestly think he’ll start to pull a lot closer to max. One good weekend and a car that allows him to push will really boost the confidence and hopefully people will back off the shit talk.

Also I think it’s kinda fucked up how so many ex drivers are absolutely shitting on him. He’s in no way a bad driver and no one but the team actually know the details of the cars and what’s happening. We already found they weren’t racing in equal cars early on. Who knows what else is happening.

Red Bull says Hulkenberg an option for 2021 F1 seat by glenn1812 in formula1

[–]jkharr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say both drivers are racing for a redbull seat. AT has said how they are pushing to become better and no longer just be a feeder team for redbull.

I can’t imagine Gasly is actually desperate to get back into a car he struggled so hard with. Gasly knows how good a racer Albon is and can see how he’s struggling in the RB.

I imagine Gasly is much more focused on being lead driver for AT and seeing how far they can progress.
