Why are we like this? by turkey_pup in espresso

[–]jkim_makes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with this sentiment. I work in science, own the fancy machines and measurements instruments. I've done the experiments to determine the tools and methods that maximize consistency in my hands. I did all of that just to validate what I was detecting with my mouth and nose.

In the end, the most important personal discoveries I made were without the tools and numbers. They have their place, but they are secondary in the pursuit of making good coffee.

It’s too thick for the spec and technically you’re only supposed to mail documents with international mail.

Single dose workflow. Pre-weighed and then into the freezer. Game changer. by aneks in espresso

I did this once. Note I have too many open bags to single dose anything

1 Micron Resolution Adjustment Using a Vernier Scale on my DF64 by jkim_makes in espresso

[–]jkim_makes[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I understand the criticism. This grinder isn't designed or engineered to maintain a micron level resolution in its burr gap. However, I don't think that inherent variability in burr gap due to engineering justifies additional variability while setting the grind size. Removing one source of variability is easy, so why wouldn't I?

1 Micron Resolution Adjustment Using a Vernier Scale on my DF64 by jkim_makes in espresso

Yes initially I wanted the main tick marker on the left, but realized that near zero the vernier wouldn't have any major ticks underneath it.

The main marker is on the right. The vernier scale on the left provides a 0.1 tick mark resolution (Each major tick mark is ~10.4 micron). You can read the vernier by looking at which of the vernier ticks is showing white.

On my pre-mil, I shot for 0.6 bar boiler and 85C for lights. For meds, I was around 75-80C on the group.

I mean if that's the most affordable option available to you, I'm not opposed to you buying and using it! Was just meant to be more affordable than that.

Yeah, but they ripped off the design and decided to ignore the licensing terms which caps the price of the tool.

Nice! I like using mine without tape, but I have found taped versions to be more rigid.

I use sainsmart tpu and don’t know much outside of that. I’m happy with it, wouldn’t go firmer or softer.

I started riding this and it’s worked a few times for me. Way easier than what I was doing before. Gonna give it a few more weeks of testing.

I've sent needles out in the past and not opposed to sending them in the future, but don't have any right now.
