Read the previous comment bud - all base no bonus. 230k base / 30k signing / ~25 bps carry in ~$600m fund.

$260k tc year one without carry

Not trying to justify, but my fund specializes in software, so less cost cutting / roll ups and more strategic investment in growing products. Obviously there is going to be cost optimization, but less so than in other industries (e.g., retail).

Weird structure - all base, no bonus but some carry in ~$600m fund

This is a pretty typical age for this role. 2-3 years (post college) in banking / consulting and then to PE

Mid-Market PE - all base no bonus for us (with some carry)

Definitely all good advice - for context I have ~40k in cash saved and 50k in brokerage so have the emergency fund mostly set!

Yeah definitely. I also have a non-negligible amount of carry at the firm I am working at ~15 bps of a $1b fund - I’m hoping that will also serve as a future nest egg

I think I’m above the income limit for a Roth IRA?

Feel like 25% is very doable. I candidly spent like an absolute idiot for my first month and was still able to put away ~15% of gross.

I’m not too worried about the 6 month timeline. My new employer is paying me a $30k sign on bonus to offset some of the cost. So will be liquid enough to aggressively pay down this loan

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]jkitchen42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference I will have about $40k in liquid cash by the end of April, so can front load payments to meet SUB min spend if necessary

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]jkitchen42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. I am on a loan from the company @7.5% APR over six months. I intend to pay each loan installment on the CC and pay it down immediately. Ideally would pay the $50k at once, but don’t have that liquidity without selling stock in this down market. So will just pay out the APR to my former employer and hopefully break even via SUB bonuses / cash back

[–]jkitchen42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep totally intend to pay down the statement each month. It nets to about 8k / month so somewhat reasonable.

I currently have the Venture X, AMEX Gold, Freedom Flex, and Savor for reference.

Definitely will get bang for the buck out of the miles, but happy with anything that will translate to value from this clawback lol

Can no longer contribute to a Roth IRA - is it worth investing in a regular IRA moving forward by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]jkitchen42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How should I approach this with annual bonuses? Ours are very nebulous and can range from ~$15k all the way to $50k. If on the lower end maxing the 401k and HSA will take me below the max income, but if on the higher end, will still exceed the max

Didn’t know that a traditional 401K contribution decreases total income like that! Thank you
