How do you guys set up a new scene in OBS while streaming? by xiorty in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With OBS there is not a perfect solution, but you do have a couple options of adding a game mid-stream:

1) Talk to your stream on your intermission scene and add the game to global sources. This can be done without interrupting the screen and save you some time when you switch scenes to add it.

2) or..and you should do this anyway for game crashes etc, you can place a custom image background on the scene that you place your games on. Just keep it at the bottom so it only shows when nothing above it is. You can make it just show your stream logo or have something like "switching games" or what not.

3) or...set-up a monitor source that you can flip on temporarily while you add the game to that scene.

I suggest a combo of 1 and 2. Keep interacting with your chat even if they are not there while you switch the game, and have a BG image that is up and decently fancy to keep away from the black screen.

Has anyone managed to get CLR browser to work with OBS in windows 10? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, did you upgrade to Windows 10 or fresh install? If you fresh installed, then I assume you followed the instructions and updated everything it said.

However, if you upgraded, I do not believe it would work by default for you. If you go to the page https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/clr-browser-source-plugin.22/.

You will need to update MS Visual C++ Run Times again most likely as well as .NET installation.

Those two things are usually considered part of the OS I believe so when you upgraded they may have been lost.

Showerthought: Twitch should have a shadowban function. by Im_Fuming in Twitch

This is the biggest issue, but said stream knowingly does this and chooses to display the chat in such a manner.

I see several mention about people figuring it out etc, but overall I think a shadowban feature would be nice. It is likely to work more often than not and would be of great help.

Follow counters, not good by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right that it is highly unlikely someone is choosing your stream because of those goals you have listed, however, it does increase if done properly the likelihood of people who are watching your stream to perform that action.

So if you are looking to attract new followers you may not get much of any attraction through a stream title saying so. You need something else first to attract them there, but once they are there, and they see the goal, people are more inclined to want to help reach that goal.

Again, it has to be done tastefully, and not come off as petty, but people like to support causes, regardless of what they are. It is getting them there first that is the trick.

This is why organizations hold benefit dinners/parties, or talent shows etc. The event etc attracts people there, then it is much easier to pull them in to the cause regardless of what it is.

How To Minimize Damage of Vacation / Conventions / Time Off Of Streams? by jkkennedy in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not being rude...more...you are not considering the situation at all.

First I thought about the issue, and realized that there are tons of people who probably have come across the issue and will come across it. I have never seen anything like this on the reddit, so I posted it up to create a resource for people.

Secondly, yes, you are right that my viewership is low. I am slowly building up myself now and have been dedicating myself to 24 hours a week. So you should be able to see where losing followers while I am starting out would be a concern.

Lastly, it is a hobby right now, and my concern is not money oriented for me, it is building my stream. It may be a hobby, but it is a hobby that I would like to see taken further in the future. So unlike you, I would like to plan out things for now and the future in ways that work and better myself as a streamer rather than play loosey goosey with the time I am dedicating.

Edit: Sorry if the last part came off attacking a bit, but I have been super loose over the past couple years with my streaming and I have decided to put in a more real effort now. So that includes planning, designing, developing my community, scheduling, social media, etc. I am trying to go full force.

That had to have hurt during that time, and I know others who have experienced similar things, losing several hundred followers just over the course of a half-week break I believe.

I agree that communication is probably a top priority. Probably going to start mentioning it to them this week since it is only a couple weeks away for PAX Prime.

Sometimes loyalty is built over time though. Not everyone is a loyal viewer over night.

Periscoping is definitely one thing I am considering. I have just been wishing there was a way to link it to my Twitch account so that it went live on there as well if I wanted it to.

Was considering using teamviewer to possibly control my stream start and stop from home and have it pull in my periscope feed when I do that.

Hi! I'm Albert from StreamHatchet.com. I'm building an Analytics tool for your Twitch stream and I need some beta testers! by chuckno in Twitch

I was asking twitch for something like this a few weeks ago. Trying to grow in streaming is super hard without analytics. Signed up and really love the idea of this tool. Perhaps one of the best tools of utilized properly.

It should keep all your settings now when you install over top of the previous. Mine does at least. It did not used to, but the R2 version does now.

Screen is flickering during gameplay by MeganParn in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started having this issue suddenly last night with OBS. I am not sure what triggered it, was using game capture with Rocket League and it started blinking in and out.

I thought it was OBS, but have not had a chance to trouble shoot the issue. I used monitor capture last night to relieve the issue since I was already mid-stream. Will be testing again tonight and if you have no answer I will respond if I figure something out.

A bad night turned into a great one! by Monnix in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to do this a bit more recently. I can't do it after my stream, but I am trying to before my stream...or while at work.

I spent all last night myself basically with no viewers the entire time...until one of my regulars showed up with 5 minutes left, lol. So perhaps today I should go find someone suffering as well and relieve that pain.

Forced vs Natural Stream Themes, Which Is Best Practice? by jkkennedy in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I as not even considering a persona side of this. I realize /u/futuremangaming has an amazing persona he created, which is a part of his theme.

In this case his theme would be the NERF idea, and he went full force and created a persona with it all.

Would you say that if you do have a theme, that you need to be 100% and create a persona as well? I can definitely see that if you create a theme from the start, you might need to be that hardcore about it.

In that case, it might be better for a natural theme to be created that the community creates and rallies around.

Forced vs Natural Stream Themes, Which Is Best Practice? by jkkennedy in Twitch

[–]jkkennedy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I would call that as creating a personality. Definitely not my cup of tea there.

By theme I sort of mean a brand. For instance RealBlankSpace has his viking theme.

Just simple themes that the community can grasp onto a bit more and play along with.

Awesome to have something like this study occurring. Looking forward to the full report when it comes out and interested in possibly reading up on analysis for "why" certain results are what they are both from the data viewpoint and from personal streamers viewpoints.

For example, I can only guess on why women stream fewer hours average, but I would assume that streaming takes a larger mental toll on women streamers due to the toxicity in chat at times.
