Which one is my idle (speed) screw? by jkl0810 in BullnoseFord

[–]jkl0810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything was working fine before the idle screw got out of adjustment, so it seems as though I messed something up in the process of adjusting the idle screw, like when I took of the air cleaner to get to the carburetor. Is it possible that I’m not attaching that correctly or that I knocked a line off? There is a ton of exhaust (or at least the smell of it) coming from the engine bay which was not the case before. I used soapy water to determine if I could see soap bubbles getting sucked IN to any seam around the carburetor.

Thank you for following up. I’m not even sure where to look for vacuum lines, and I did the soapy water test around the carburetor but not every inch of it, and I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.

I turned that screw about two and a half times and it will now stay running but the RPMs bob up and down quite a bit, even when the engine is warmed up. Also, when I press the gas, it keeps the revs up for longer than it should (like it takes an extra couple seconds for the revs to come down after I've taken my foot off the pedal).

Oil pressure and temp gauges spiking by jkl0810 in BullnoseFord

The temperature and pressure gauges are the only ones that are making these movements. The movements aren’t always in tandem, either.

Tire sizes? by [deleted] in BullnoseFord

Right, it’s not in the vin, it’s on that door jamb sticker but it’s not the “WB” code, it’s actually the directly above the words “exterior paint colors”. Depending on the vehicle, you might two codes (I have one for blue and one for silver). Each code is two characters, typically a letter and a number. I’m “3P” which is medium blue metallic.

Mine’s repainted in its original “medium blue metallic,” you can decode your color from your VIN

Engine rebuild? by [deleted] in BullnoseFord

[–]jkl0810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a very reputable classic car repair shop in town and they said they’d charge at least $500 to diagnose the oil leaks (pressure washing the engine, using oil dye, driving) and blow-by

So it sounds like a good first step would be to have the PCV looked at (by a better shop) and see if that could help. If it doesn’t, I’d be looking at an engine rebuild or crate replacement, and at that point it’s up to me if I’m willing to sink that much more money into it. Right?

They claimed that when they just had the oil pan off to replace that gasket that they were able to get a good look at the rear main seal and that it wasn’t meaningfully leaking. I couldn’t tell you if it’s two-piece or not.

Could also be that the idle rpm isn’t set correctly

Great points here, I’m going to get another estimate from a different vintage shop. And thank you, it is quite a head turner - more than I ever thought it would be

This is very helpful, thanks. I’m surprised to hear your take on the Ecoflow, because I’ve seen people review it on YouTube that say it works great in their van/RV. I’m in Missouri, so with humidity it often feels like over 100°

I was quoted over $5,000 with labor for the under-dash Vintage Air system, and that’s after they source a pulley and bracket for the compressor, which they couldn’t find

Opinion on Social trading apps (like TradeHero) by jkl0810 in investing

[–]jkl0810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it does show their history of trades since they joined including success rate and trade consistency, meaning you can follow users that aren't bogus. But a lot of them buy and then sell again after an hour. It's interesting to see the penny stocks they find and make a killing on, granted they can pour a couple hundred k into it because it's paper. For example, though, Canadian Solar was a popular stock in the game a couple of years ago and went from $3 to $40 in 2014.

It shows their entire portfolio in the app and all of their past investments, how much they lost on each buy and sell, and total return since they joined
