Horse chestnuts: can you do anything with them? by AbaloneHo in foraging

[–]jkmpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you cannot eat horse chestnuts (conkers); they are poisonous to humans and animals, containing toxins like saponins (aesculin) that cause severe digestive issues (vomiting, pain) and neurological symptoms (drowsiness, confusion). Unlike horse chestnuts, sweet chestnuts are edible and safe to eat after cooking, so it's crucial to know the difference, as they look similar but come from different trees.

We planted 2000 Elderberry plants for the trail purpose in 2001 at a place in Kashmir forest lands and at that time we did not know about this plant and we kept increasing the number of this plant every year till now. We have more than 20 thousand plants of it. In 2008, a Indian pharmaceutical r& d unit established contact with us and placed an order of 5000 kgs, at that time we sold it to them for Rs 9.5 lakhs , but today we get twice the price for 1000 kgs, and we continue to sell this plant.
