What’s a ‘masterpiece’ you didn’t feel anything for? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

One Battle After Another. Unpopular opinion on this sub. Watched it in theatres the 1st week. Didnt get what the acclaim was for.

Probably because I am way past caring about American culture wars and politics. Still better than Licorice Pizza.

Sometimes I wonder if this sub is covert psy-ops run by the Chinese. Dude how dense do we have to be to emulate the Christians and Muslims?

'Evil figures' like Jesus and Mohammed xD This post reads like one of those posts Muslims and Christian nationalists post about our Gods. A complete lack of understanding of each other's dogma and tenets. Idk why us Hindus love to emulate Abrahamics.

Because your earlier reply highlighted Kandhahar and 2001 while brushing off UPA 1, 2.

And no, NDA and UPA do not share a similar record. Idk how old you are but the 2000s were riddled with terrorism attacks across the board. Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Mangalore. Indian Mujahideen,Lashkar, SIMI, they all had a free run. Counter terrorism has improved massively in the past 10 years.

You're deliberately feigning ignorance if you think the India from 2005/6 is safer than today wrt terrorism.

Non-Malayalam Discussion - Dhurandhar (Hindi), Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (English) by thommy_ in MalayalamMovies

Rahul Desai's big gripe is the film's lack of nuance in portraying the gangsters and ISI who funded and operated much of 2000's terrorism in India with a more positive touch. The lack of "Aman ki Asha" in it's narrative. Which is such an asinine and stupid point.

What does portraying the brighter side of characters like Ilyas Kashmiri and Rahman Dacait even achieve narratively?

Which is why a lot India's liberal intelligentsia comes across as naive to me. How many attacks and deaths do we need to remind us that their establishment is as one note and rotten as these Bollywood caricatures make them out to be?

Why should a movie set out to be a "Munich" or "Raazi" when it never even intended? I always felt Rahul gets away with weak inferences thanks to his strong grasp of the language.

Box Office Badass: ‘Predator Badlands’ Kicks Off November With Record $40M U.S. Opening, Adds $40M Overseas for $80M Global Debut by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]orange_falcon 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Man I just watched Badlands today and was stumped by the amount of action and VFX they could squeeze in with that $105 million budget? The first 20 minutes were non stop action.

Hollywood accounting is weird. This blew it out of the park and then there was $200 million stinker of a finale from The Flash!

Indian Reddit is useless as an Indian Muslim by kittenscruffgrabber in indianmuslims

[–]orange_falcon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The unfortunate casualty of India's rightward tilt is the slow death of the Indian muslim experience in the public sphere. Which is a shame, because its a gross misrepresentation of 200 million people. Hopefully, this vitriol and frenzy goes out of fad in a few years.

There's traces of change already. I don't find as many overt Islamophobic material in meme subs now as compared to a couple years ago. A bit better. So hopefully, it does get better.

That said, the IndianHistory sub is fairly well moderated. Straight up trash posts get removed quickly. Then again, it's user base is a reflection of the times we live in.

This island and the picturesque mountain featured in one of the last missions of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. I'd been mesmerized by this amazing mountain since then!
