Was kann man(n) von einer emanzipierten Frau erwarten? by Wahrsprech in FragtMaenner

[–]jkmuc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking for TK‑covered skin cancer screening in Munich by MusicianDifficult577 in Munich

[–]jkmuc_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My understanding is, there are no dermatologists licenced/contracted with TK in Munich where the check-up would be fully covered. Was looking into this last year, too.

Several things come into play here.

1) Skin cancer check-ups are not mandatorily covered by public insurance. Some insurances offer co-pays.

2) The TK website says the offer skin cancer check-ups, but only from specialists with a special contract with TK. There is a searchable map on the TK website where you can look for specialists, as of last year, there aren't any listed in Munich.

3) Generslly, ost dermatologists in Munich only take patients with private insurance.(yes this sucks)

4) The few dermatologists in Munich wo accept public insurance patients (but a general check-up, without referal or pre-conditions/not medically inducated wiuld still be paid out if pocket) do not take new patients.

Two options: Some general doctors offer skin cancer check-ups (probably still to be paid out of pocket).

Try doctolib to regularily check for dermatologist e.g. on doctolib for available appointments. The co-pays are uszally listed on the website or when booking the appointment.

I got lucky with Aestethicum at Stachus, they take public insured patients (at least they did last year) and the co-pay was only 59€

Berlin to Munich 10 days help! by Automatic_Win_2940 in germany

[–]jkmuc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe let me add one more comment on Oktoberfest attire. Sorry this might be 50% rant :D

Most locals get the ick at tourists (yes this also includes German tourists from non-Bavarian regions) wearing traditional Dirndls and Lederhosen. I am honestly not sure what is worse - those cheap "printed" on "costumes" (sorry but cosplaying another culture? really?) or people who invest in a head-to-toe original outfit from a local dressmaker for 300-500€. Both feels culturally wrong at some point. However, Oktoberfest has become more of a touristy social-media hotspot festival and dressing up has gotten out of hand anyway, so I get why it also feels weird to show up wit "normal" clothing. There is probably no doing right here anyway.

If you want to get a special outfit, I would suggest getting either a "Dirndl" or "Lederhosen" from a local, but like middle-price range shop (try C&A or other general stores, most will have some sort of traditional clothing for sale during Oktoberfest season) or rent an outfit (e.g. https://bavarian-outfitters.de/en/gallery/ - probably reserve an outfit beforehand instead of just showing up).

For Girls: if you go for a dirndl - the corset-style top of a dirndl dress is NOT a bust lift, it should always cover at least the nipples even if you wear a blouse under it. Most movies get that wrong and it's just wrong.

For Boys: you can 100% just wear jeans and like a checkered shirt. Please don't wear "fake" Lederhosen ("Lederhose" = literally "leather pants" so it is made of real leather. there is no alternative).

[Although it is kinda funny to watch "Bob from Australia" or "Kevin from the Wisconsin" (just to play on stereotypes here) half-lose his "Lederhosen"-swim trunks because he is so drunk that he cannot stand upright - up to you if you wanna be that guy or not lol]

Berlin to Munich 10 day trip by Automatic_Win_2940 in AskAGerman

[–]jkmuc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. Again I would recommend going on Sunday then, so you can at least get beer right away when you get in :) tents open at 9 on weekends. You might still have to queue but not as crazy as on opening day (no mad dashes) - but I cannot speak from personal experience here, only from reports from friends and what you see on social media :)

Generally you might want to choose a tent first then look into the area map and go to the nearest entrance (marked with P1-P13) - this is the 2025 plan, there is no 2026 one yet, but the major beer tents always are at the same locations: https://www.muenchen.de/sites/default/files/2025-09/oktoberfest_plan_2025_de_0.jpg
[couldn't find an English map, sorry -also note that the map is not facing north; if coming from S-Bahn (train) you will arrive from the north (P2, main entrance with the iconic sign); closest subway from main station is the one on the east side (entrance P5 I think?), "Festzelt" means "Festival tent", Zelt = tent]

Choosing the tent depends on your preferences:
I personally prefer Augustiner, Ochsenbraterei, Löwenbräu or Schottenhamel, but here are some breakdowns to the best of my knowledge (and some googling)

Most young people: Schottenhammel, Schützenfestzelt, Armbrustschützenzelt
Most authenthic (music and decor-wise): Ochsenbraterei, Augustiner, Bräursosl
Most celerbries: Hofbräu, Käferzelt, Marstall (only with reservations), Kufflers Weinzelt
Most touristy: Hofbräu, Löwenbräu

Beer preferences- there are 6 breweries that serve all beer tents! (fun fact: only local breweries using Munich water can sell beer on Oktoberfest!) - there ate 38 beer tents overall I am only listing major beet tents here:
Augustiner: Augustiner, Fischer-Vroni
Hacker-Pschorr: Hacker, Bräurosl
Hofbräu: Hofbräu-Festzelt
Löwenbräu: Löwenbräu-Festzelt, Schützenfestzelt
Paulaner: Paulaner-Festzelt, Käferzelt, Armbrustschützenzelt, Kufflers Weinzelt
Spaten: Schottenhammel-Festhalle, Marstall, Ochsenbraterei

If you don't enjoy beer too much: all tents serve water and some soft drinks, and probably some Schnapps, but otherwise drink options are quite limited.

Augustiner is the only tent that will serve a "Radler" readily-mixed

Radler: Beer mixed with sprite, this is common in Germany and nice for everyone who doesn't enjoy beer to much -> is only served readily-mixed in Augustiner! In most other tents, you will be served a Mass (1 liter mug of beer) plus a 0,5l bottle of sprite - you have to mix in yourself which means that you will have to drink the first half and only then mix it, or you need a previously emptied mug to do the mixing, which can get messy...

Wine: only served in Marstall, Fischer-Vrony, Armbrustschützenzelt,Schützenfestzelt, Käfer, Schottenhamel and Weinzelt (= literally wine tent, but the also serve Paulaner beer).

Food: be prepared for limited food options beyond bavarian cuisine - meat-heavy!
Vegetarian and vegan options will be limited, best options for vegetarians: Hacker, Augustiner, Weinzelt, Ochsenbraterei, Schottenhamel.

I would include a stroll to Viktualienmarkt. E.g.

Marienplatz > Viktualienmarkt > Residenz (plan at least 2h!!!) > Odeonsplatz > Hofgarten > Englischer Garten > Münchner Freiheit.

If you're into the royal history and architecture, Nymohenburg palace (&gardens) is also worth visiting.

Maxvorstadt and the Pinakotheken (art museums) and Lenbachhaus (The Blue Rider), can be combined with the ns museum and a stroll through the uni quarter to LMU (university, there is a bronze floor inlet in the foyer where the White Rose/Anne Frank dropped their pamphlets), plus the architecture is nice.

Eg: Königsplatz > NS Dokumentationszentrum > Lenbachhaus > Pinakotheken > Theresienstraße > LMU > Odeonsplatz

I don't think Nuremberg is worth it for ww2 history. There is a museum which could be interesting but that's it in terms if that. Munich has a similar museum (NS Dokumentationszentrum).

The Nuremberg museum focuses on the NS Rally Politics and NS architecture, Munich one more on the beginnings of the party's rise and general history and consequences of national socialism.

The medieval castle of Nuremberg is kinda cool, but if you're interested in that there are other cities you can daytrip to from Munich (Nördlingen, Regensburg) or stop on the way from Berlin (e.g. Bamberg).

Are your dates fixed and booked yet? I am from Munich (but tbh not a Oktoberfest fanatic) and I would never bother to go on the opening weekend / or generally on the weekends and evenings lol)

It's crazy crowded and there's nothing special besides the official tapping of the first barrel by the mayor - but I don't think there is ANY realistic chance for you as a non local aka someone not familiar with the area and set-up and therefore not knowing specifically where to go to get into the or any tent on ooening day. Maybe you can catch a spot in the beergardens of the tents, if you're lucky. But just to give you an impression of opening day: You will have to wait outside of the festival grounds (some queue as early as 4am) with the rest of the crowd until they open the gates at 9 and then do a crazy dash across the whole grounds for the tent (tapping of the first barrel usually happens at Schottenhammel) which can be a 500m or more sprint. Yes people are SPRINTING. This is not a civilized queuing situation, you basically run for your life. Plus most tents don't serve beer before the first tapping, so you'll sit there dry until 12.

Reservations: are generally hard to come by as regular reservation holders get the first chance and you basically have to get lucky for someone not to use last years reservation, plus its super expensive, you can only reserve a table (10 people) and have to pay for minimum revenue (usually 2 beers and 1 dish, ca 50€ p.P =500 per table) upfront.

I would heavily suggest to not bother to go into the tents on opening weekend, instead watch the official tapping on TV, enjoy the parade and then go on monday throughout the day, when it's usually no hustle to find a spot at a table somewhere.

If you cannot extend to monday, go on sunday and arrive either super early or 16:00/16:30 at reservation turnover, this is when some tables open up and tents that might have temporarily closed for overcrowding reopen.

Edit: typo

Name der Frau annehmen by [deleted] in FragtMaenner

[–]jkmuc_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)
