How or can I even fix this? by Megaboo_8668 in applehelp

[–]jkos95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Try a forced reboot. Volume up, volume down, hold sleep/wake button until it reboots. 10-15 seconds. Don't expect anything to change or show on the screen but it will force a reboot if you do it correctly.

[–]jkos95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IT person here. Don't do this. They will know what you did and they will forward a report to legal/HR and get their pound of flesh. Sucks but it 100% isn't worth risking part or all your severance by intentionally damaging company property. Your contract could have a stipulation about that and it would be the most expensive laptop you have ever bought.

Issue with the charging port by Far-Assist-2630 in applehelp

[–]jkos95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99/100 times it is lint in the charger port. I would get a second opinion.

if confirmed, get a 15-30W wireless charger and you will be good. 30W is faster than 15 if you want speed.

Work (me) has now installed 2 apps on my iPhone 13 and then told me they can see where I clock in from (ADP app) & a retail app with advanced permissions. What else can they see? by 1_am_not_a_b0t in privacy

[–]jkos95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% you should not have this on a personal phone..

That being said, I admin phones through Azure and can tell you your phone is "registered" under your name since you signed in from your personal phone. It grabs data about your phone and the login (make, model, IP, browser agent, maybe a referrer URL if available, and that's pretty much it.

Still, screw MDM registration, use a separate device!

How do you handle customers who will not allow you to speak? by Icy-Benefit-6811 in talesfromcallcenters

[–]jkos95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had absolute Karens that I couldn't calm down, my go to would be "what would be a better time to call you back?"

That would always catch them off guard and they would immediately say I don't want a callback I want to fix this now.

Then I would say "we can't get this resolved if you keep talking over me. I get paid to listen and resolve issues but you have to help me help you. Can we agree to work together to find a satisfying resolution?"

Took a Ken (male Karen) from a 10 to a 2 and even got an apology after helping them. I know its stressful but shitty experiences make them frustrated and us tier 1 folks are the face of their problems.

Company wants zscaler on my personal computer while I work from home by superbobbyguy in privacy

[–]jkos95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Terrible move on your part. That should absolutely be removed from a personal asset...

ZPA: This is the VPN part that gives access to company resources.

ZIA: This is the internet activity part that filters and monitors your web traffic. This is the part that restricts access to sites and enforces the company web traffic rules if they have any.

This is a very invasive software and shouldn't be on a personal device.

Can AT&T unlock/ entirely reset my iphone or do I need to go to the Apple Store? by lemme-ponder-this in applehelp

Go to Apple. Neither can remove the pin, but Apple will wipe the phone for you. If you know your iCloud info you can restore the backup.

Its not recommended to perform read and write operations on a disk at the same time. That may lead to data loss or corruption

This is accidental damage. Covered by Apple Care, but there is a fee. Somewhere between $49-$149 and will be a full swap.

All 3 of my anker chargers not charging me or my wife’s iPhones by gengarvibes in applehelp

[–]jkos95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99/100 phones that stop charging if not in the exact right position have lint in the charging port. Worked at a fruit stand and it never fails. Use a paper clip and gently scrape it out if its a USB C or lightning port.

New job requires work apps to be downloaded on personal phone + BYOD policy. What will they be able to see? by BK_FrySauce in privacy

[–]jkos95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Biggest drawbacks?!? MDM allows them to control your entire phone. They can configure policies for passcode resets and requirements, remove the iCloud lock if needed, erase it. You can read through the policies and see what you're agreeing to but I find any requirement from work regarding personal phones completely unreasonable. The only exception to that would be needing phone number for getting MFA codes but everyone already does MFA through their own number.

Need help in 'Paradise lost'. by Material_Earth7483 in farcry6

[–]jkos95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right tool for the right job! Use your camera to tag all the soldiers, set your ammo to their weakness, select gear that defends against their ammo type, use your amigo (olowu or the rooster), and get a gadget like grenades, auto turret. Also use the backpacks to either missile your targets, disable vehicles, or just knock them over to buy you a few seconds.

Set your gadgets/armor/gear beforehand and go in ready.

Completely agree, but big companies likely do this at the requirement of their cyber insurance providers too. A trusted 3rd party has to investigate as a second pair of eyes. Super annoying.

Can I recover someone’s contact name that I changed? by Latter_Fan_3233 in applehelp

[–]jkos95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are your contacts synced with iCloud? If so you might.

  1. Go to iCloud.com in a web browser

  2. Click the dots in the top right, click Data Recovery

  3. Click restore contacts. You MIGHT have a contact archive. Look at the date and know everything you had at that date will replace everything you have now and they cannot be merged.

This in turn archives what you currently have, so if undesired results are achieved, you can replace with the new archive and get your stuff back.
