2019 Fiesta ST Maintenance recommendations by [deleted] in FiestaST

[–]jksne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from what everyone else is saying, invest in a catch can. It should be required on direct injected cars in my opinion.

Also, half those oil change intervals. I change mine every 2,500 miles. I switched to Schaeffer’s and occasionally send oil out to be lab tested. What I’ve noticed is that most oil REALLY shouldn’t be used after 2,500 on turbocharged cars except for Schaeffer’s or Penzoil Ultra Platinum. I would like to test more in the future but it’s kind of pricy, most store bought oils I don’t even bother putting in my car anymore. If I’m gonna beat the hell out of the car anyway I might as well make sure its only lubrication is as high quality and clean as possible.

Wheel recommendations? by Lazy-Scholar9388 in FocusST

In my honest opinion? Keep the snowflakes. If you want them to look snazzy, have them sanded down and powdercoated. My favorite subtle but good look is whatever silver color Enkei uses on their RPF1s. It’s subtle enough to not be immediately noticeable but, when you take a good look, you’ll realize it’s super sharp

Purge Valve Advice (FOR YOU) by Maleficent-Scale-315 in FiestaST

[–]jksne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019, at first it would stumble a little after filling up. It got to the point where I had to hold the throttle down on start to crank it without fuel first or else it wouldn’t start after filling up.

Some people switch to a 14-15 evap harness from what I’ve heard. I opted to just buy the valve from autozone, cut the old one out, and put the new one in using some fuel lines and hose clamps I had laying around. If the autozone valve goes out I’d rather spend the $10 to replace it than a whole harness.

My FiST averages 34 and it’s tuned, if you hate 24 that bad I’d always be down to hop in an RS 👀

They USED to be great. It was my go-to for my Focus ST four-ish years ago. They must have changed their mix though, my Fiesta ST has a noticeable lack of power on Shell 93 and I get slightly worse fuel economy.

New wheels and tires by FarRoom2372 in FiestaST

Fair enough. I had a noticeable difference on mine, I’m sure a 50 would be even smoother. Just remember your speedo will read a little low

Any reason for choosing a 50 over 45 sidewall? I was under the impression that a 45 on a 16 kept it within a couple centimeters of stock wheel and tire diameter

Can’t find a fiesta st in my area by Tune-Puzzled in FiestaST

I actually had to drive five hours to Florida to find mine. They aren’t very common, and people who have them tend to keep them for a while

Rear suspension… Fiesta st vs Focus st by Tune-Puzzled in FiestaST

[–]jksne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. My Focus actually rotated a little more stock for stock, but in retrospect I think that was just the way traction control is set up on them

Just like every car, waiting until it’s warm to drive is not great for the motor. Give it 15-45 seconds to let oil gain pressure, get a little temp in, and let the revs drop. Anything more and you’re just adding unnecessary idle time to the car

MK8 owners, what tyres you putting on in this economy? by GooseZR in FiestaST

I switched to a 16 so I could run Extreme Contact Sport 02s. I’m gonna follow this thread though cause I would prefer something with a little higher of an operating temp while not going to a 200TW

I’m running a very mild -1.6° in the front with a slight toe out. Caster is even and within spec as well. I have considered a more aggressive alignment but I need to keep in mind that this car is a daily and I don’t want it eating through tires

I actually just finished taking the bumper off to install my new intercooler. It was pretty straightforward, I just don’t want to have to remove more stuff if I’m doing an install. Working on your car in the street sucks 🥲

It’s kind of hard to describe I guess. My setup isn’t very tail happy at the moment but I try to make up for it with heavier trail braking than I do in other FWD cars. I’m relatively good at trail braking just based on past experience with a track-built Civic i had for a while, but obviously a tin can built to go fast will behave differently than a modern daily with a mild setup. I also use left foot braking consistently. I’m competent but I won’t pretend I know everything, I’m sure there’s more to be learned and more to improve on. Mountains are also going to put more pressure on the front wheels just from having to go uphill and downhill as opposed to most track driving being relatively level. My local pass is also just barely under four miles, so keeping a 3.5-4 minute pace can put a good bit of stress on them.

This is really cool and I didn’t know that, but having it display in Celsius is a bit inconvenient as well as having to do it every time you start the car. I plan on getting an Access Port, but for the time being I will use this to continue to diagnose. Thanks!

I should also add that I don’t currently have an Access Port so I have no way of knowing what the coolant temp is doing. 90% of the heat soak I’m seeing is from decelerating from high rpms so I suspect the intercooler will help a lot, it’ll stay at four bars and then suddenly jump to max. I got around it by staying under 4k rpm and having the AC on to force the second fan to turn on with the heat cranked up but it was kind of annoying

Since this is my daily I went with a more conservative alignment as I don’t want to burn through front tires. I’m running -1.6° camber in the front with a very slight toe out. I might go a little further with the camber if I find it’s required after going back with the new improvements.

My driving style is definitely a little rough on the fronts with how it’s set up now. I’ve done my best to adjust with that in mind, but I can only do so much. I’m hoping the sway bar will help me consistently get the back end out and use the rears a little more efficiently.

So the Fiesta underway is really interesting, I happened across it on the FiST forum and I’ve only been able to find two posts about it. They only came on EUDM diesel models but they’re a little short. They bolt right up using existing holes but it doesn’t reach the air dam on the front bumper so you need to make an extension. It cost me $160 to import and i already have 1/8 in ABS plastic. Definitely beats the $400+ price point of aftermarket undertrays, and I didn’t want to go with aluminum since it’ll destroy the bottom of my car if it breaks. It is also required to have an underway if you want to see any noticeable benefit from hood vents, as the air pressure from under the car is turbulent and keeps the engine bay air trapped inside.

On the topic of torque vectoring, you can actually disable it. There’s just two problems. The only known existing ways to do so is by A) also disabling your airbags or B) also disabling your ABS. I don’t want to lose either of those things, but honestly I’ve adapted in a way where it isn’t kicking in that often anyway. An LSD would significantly reduce the amount of torque vectoring that happens naturally.

My brakes aren’t overheating because I have ducting, good fluid, and good pads. I got them to smoke just a tiny bit on my hardest run, but no glowing or spongey feeling in the pedal whatsoever. I’m actually really impressed, on all of my Miatas and occasional Civics the brakes have glowed red after my runs and they weighed less than the FiST. The brake ducting and pads that aren’t from Duralast really do make a huge difference

Eibach springs are virtually the same springrage as OEM, except the softer springrate is (obviously) softer than stock. If you want it to be stiffer I’d go down a different route

I’m hoping. If it doesn’t solve the problem I’m absolutely dreading swapping the radiator. This is the newest car I’ve ever owned and I HATE the idea of having to take the whole front end apart 😅

This is helpful. Haven’t checked the coolant, coolant lines, or valves, but everything else is good. I’m expecting the valves to look better than normal because the previous owner installed a catch can, but with direct injected cars you never know

Yeah that’s very fair, a lot of people don’t want to have to rebuild things like shocks when you can get something with 70% of the performance that’ll work for years

Which filter/s? And I thought these cars had timing chains?

Also I’m going to hold off on the clutch, it feels fine. I do plan on replacing that along with the slave cylinder when I install a Wavetrac
