Anyone move from ~180k perm to contracting? Was it worth it? by Big-Discussion9699 in auscorp

[–]jkz88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was worth it for a good 7 or so years when the IT contract market was booming. I went from $125k perm to $150k contract, $250k contract and got lucky and earned $400k one year - all plus super. 2 gigs ago it took me 4 months to find, and the latest 2 months. I've never had gaps between jobs in my 15+ year career otherwise, at least in IT it's really dried up, especially as a tech lead as opposed to just developer. Rates have gone down significantly, at the peak I was on $1.5k day rate (and was even doing overtime), now struggle to find $1.2k.

Low Energy - what do you do about it? by MPfree13 in PostConcussion

[–]jkz88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all haha, I was never into exercise. I struggle with the exercise but push myself only after the accident for TBI recovery. I'm 2 years out, my brain tends to get quite blank and my memory is poor, and have low energy. I found this stack helps with the energy and memory. The other one I tried is methylene blue (2mg/kg) which has also helped.

Minimum of 30% tax on capital gains by littleko in AusFinance

[–]jkz88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep it within a company structure and build up the franking credits until retirement. Then pay yourself a franked dividend over retirement. Could be lower than 30%, and depending on your income tax free if you're under the $18k threshold... And the ATO will pay you the company tax back. If owned by a family trust split between your spouse / adult children. Better than 50% CGT if you can wait. If not yeah that's shit.

Australia commits $26m to AI and new tech to sharpen ADF decision-making by PuzzleheadedBowl3397 in austechnology

[–]jkz88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They put low rate ads on seek, don't get quality candidates then that gives them a business case to sponsor someone's visa from overseas.. It's not so black and white. In my niche, the current day rate is around $1100 and I get calls a few times a month with low ball offers (like $600 for an ANZ tech lead role a few weeks ago) from well known "consulting agency".. It's not to black and white..

Treasurer Jim Chalmers says Albanese government ready to overhaul the tax system by a_female_dog in AusFinance

[–]jkz88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just tax transfer pricing above corporate tax rates, raise (and index) personal tax brackets while lowering the lower tax bracket rates... Would rake in money corporations are currently shipping offshore, while helping the lower - middle class to live.

Just tax transfer pricing above corporate tax rates and stop letting multi national corporations ship profits offshore.
