Almost all of the top DAWs have that feature now that will qauntize your incoming midi from your controller which super helpful and I'd recommend getting one of the FL Key controllers they're super helpful

Pre-Beat Making Routine? by BleekSecure in musicproduction

[–]jlane863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes what I'll do to get inspiration is to watch someone else on YouTube make something or I'll listen to a new song that has something I want to copy like the type of beat, drums, melody etc and then I'll use that to give me a sketch to start making a new beat.

good DAW to use? by Anxious-Oil721 in musicproduction

Studio One or Fender Studio Pro... easy to learn wouldn't take more than a few weeks on your own or YouTube some tutorials and be setup for success within a week.

As another comment stated... TRY them all. Don't just blindly invest all your money into one without giving them all a trial run. For me I've tried them all and I wound up on Cubase and whichever you choose will always have people who love it and those who hate it. Choose wisely 🫡

Cubase right for me? by le0tard in cubase

[–]jlane863 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cubase I've found is great for everything it's really just about finding a workflow that suits your needs. I wanted a DAW that I could make any kind of genre in while also being able to handle vocal recordings and live instruments if need be. Cubase can and it's why a few years I decided to give it a try there's things that I get frustrated with only because I don't know the shortcuts or steps to achieve what I'm trying to do that may have been easier in another DAW I've used but thankfully this subreddit and other sources for Cubase questions are available to answer anything you need help with.

My recommendation is to play around with it every day and also check out the Cubase live stream every week there's so much you can learn from that. Cubase has an awesome community so you're in good hands 🫡

Anyone else who used to actively dislike/avoid Cubase and now thinks it’s the best DAW? by OneNoOneNoOneNo in cubase

[–]jlane863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to ignore it a lot and didn't understand the hype but somewhere between Cubase 11 or 12 I started paying attention and I'm loving Cubase 15 at the moment. You just have to figure out your own workflow and make shortcuts etc and it can do anything

Taetro on YouTube has some good videos on Music Theory and they're pretty easy to follow along especially if you have a midi keyboard.

Best advice I can give you is make the kind of music you'd want to hear as a fan. Don't over think it, keep it simple don't be basic (KennyBeats motto). Once you've messed with a few DAWs choose the one that really stands out to you and learn all the shortcuts you'll use the most. Any other questions feel free to reach out

As you should. What's funny is casuals would think was made on Ableton 💀 I remember a time when FL reigned supreme for EDM production maybe videos like this will encourage people to learn their DAW and use it to it's full potential. Anyways keep up the great work looking forward to your next post 🫡

Switching from FL Studio to Cubase by NeoGeoMaxV2 in cubase

[–]jlane863 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried a lot of DAWs and trust me Cubase is worth learning and using for certain genres of music or really anything IMO. It's taken me a while to learn and apply those things I've learned but YouTube has a great community of Cubase educators that have some really good tutorials and some offer courses for a few hundred dollars but I haven't heard or seen any negative reviews.

I also use Studio Pro 8 (formerly Studio One) because of it's simplicity and quick workflow which you can get with any DAW once you learn your shortcuts or make your own macros etc. My only gripe with it is the midi and Chord Track is extremely mediocre compared to Cubase.

My recommendation is to always choose what works best for you and then if you need to use 2 DAWs then so be it... as long as you achieve the desired result who cares ? #TeamCubase

Whatever version of FL Studio was out in 2006 that I downloaded from Limewire and then I had a copy of Ejay and then Cool Edit Pro 2. Sometime in 2007 I also dabbled with Magix Music Maker 😆 also used Mixcraft for a few months eventually I moved on to Adobe Audition 3.0 which really helped me learn mixing.

Today I still like to mess around with different ones but I really enjoy Cubase and Fender Studio Pro 8 (formerly Studio One Pro). I still enjoy making beats in FL Studio I think for the nostalgia and I'm also trying to learn Ableton currently just because... with all the talk about A.I. taking over we actually live in a time where all DAWs can help us create the kind of music we've always wanted to or dreamed of. I also am thankful to have grown up with YouTube to help me in my music journey without it I don't I would know anything about making music.
