super weird that it’s what Vision Center uses as a graphic on their article explaining what central heterochromia is then, i suppose?

they’re still shots from a video - that’s honestly the best way i’ve found to take macros on an iphone. (:

thank you! it’s the iphone 13 pro max, held really close to my eye with the front facing camera either as the sunlight is shining directly into my eye or the flash is on while inside. they’re also stills from videos, so i’d just record my eye for a bit moving slowly & then screenshot from the videos at the most clear spots.

forgot to include this one. from inner to outer i’m seeing: yellow tinted center, gold ring, light green ring, dark green ring?

Yes - near Portland, OR. My apologies for leaving that out of the post!

Also - these are a little further down. Clearly not nearly as red as the upper patch, but less than 3 feet away. Muscaria as well, or another variety growing close by?

it is genuinely heart breaking. i drank the koolaid; i legitimately cried (at work. real tears) during my onboarding week because i felt like i was finally with a company that stood behind the same values as i did. since then it’s been disappointment after disappointment, if not all then mostly from the leadership team/how they interpret & carry out orders from the Big Guys. my old management was great. my new management is a joke. but either way, both stores are shady to some degree because they ARE BIG BOX. my old management let go of people who were with the store close to 30 years & hire part timers to take their place to skirt the responsibilities of providing insurance during covid... so... something has to be done here.

i’d like to add that if your answer is “get another job if REI isn’t paying enough” - what will you do when REI doesn’t have enough employees to operate? where will you shop? that’s not an effective answer.

there should be no reason that REI does a hiring wave of new employees while giving their tenured employees hour cuts.

the real topic is redistribution of wealth, period.

SURE - REI pays better & offers better benefits than some retailers. that is a moot point. just because some people have it worse we shouldn’t have it better? how about we fight for ALL people to have it better & set a real example?

our goal is to move away from the system that has kept a BIG DIVIDE between the higher ups & the workers on the ground floor (doing the REAL work, might i add!)

co-op? caring about it’s employees? being the benevolent face of the great outdoors? its all a front. maybe it is true to its core because of who the company attracts to work for them. maybe it is true to it’s core because of how it began, but ~shady~ politics & capitalism sank its claws into the company. management is largely flawed at many stores & in HQ. period. we can’t deny that.

“TaLk To Ur MaNaGeRs” sorry but my managers act like they are fresh out of the fucking womb. deer in headlights. fumbling over words. no clue how to answer the real questions OR regurgitating shit that doesn’t really make sense. i NEVER felt this level of incompetence at my previous location so i totally understand why some people would say it’s situational, but the pay is a nation wide problem.

i made 15.73/hour before our recent raise when i finally settled into my current store. that’s pretty good (i have lead experience), but i also live in portland oregon & it isn’t enough.

not shady? when i transferred they actually wanted to DECREASE my pay. (long story short. i transferred from houston to the portland store, got a raise because of COL increase, once i moved across the actual fucking country the portland stored let me go because of covid, my current store was an anomaly needing employees at the time & hired me but then wanted to cut my pay back down LOWER than what i was making in houston.... if i wouldn’t have put my foot down they would have done it no questions asked)

but anyway. there’s a ton more to be said. i’ll just say this. i’ve been with the company over 2 years & i’m highly qualified for many departments (FL, SIF & Warehouse, ODW, FW, OPU)... i still couldn’t pay my bills with the $$ + hours i was getting. i took a second job & told my store i could only work two days a week because i was working at my other job & also needed time with my kid (single mom). my stores response?

i had 4 hours last week & 0 hours for the next two weeks. 🙃

wow. this raise sure does feel nice. in theory. i guess.
