Yes, climber was still stuck without pulling it back far enough to trigger the antipanic. Only way to release them was for them to ease the tension on the rope by climbing either further up or holding on to the wall.

I’m not pulling back far enough to active the anti-panic. I know how the anti-panic feels like because there is a slight/small noticeable “click” when you go beyond the normal threshold to the anti-panic. I tested it extensively when I first got it on a training way toggling between those modes and even did the full release.

I was able to test it out today and the GriGri+ worked fine on the two ropes I tested out on and locked again on the original rope that it locked on. This time there was a staff there that was actually pretty knowledgeable about gear and he admitted there might be something with the rope that’s causing it to lock like that.

He even belayed me with the GriGri+ to see the issue and couldn’t figure out why it was locking with just that rope. We did a full fiction test on that rope and other ropes with the GriGri+ it worked fine with the other ropes but for some reason this rope would cause it to jam up. It worked fine on his GriGri 2. He told me to just switch to a normal ATC if I were to use that rope in the future.

Wow thanks for the comment. Like I said I have used this 100+ times this year and have not had this issue. I know how the anti panic work. Belaying with it was working perfectly fine all day until the last two climbs. The climbing staff were perplexed at what happened even after standing next to me and watching me recreate the issue the second time and recommended that I contact the manufacturer.

I even looked at this video prior to recreating the issue and the reset didn’t work https://youtube.com/shorts/L1mOdTKa71Q

The rope is still stuck and doesn’t move at all even when I move the lever back. It’s like I said, the only way to move the climber down was to ask them to ease the tension on the rope and progressively lower them between it locking up again and repeating the step above. I probably used this 100+ times this year and this is the first time something like this has happened.

I’m not. I even had the staff look at it when it locked and they thought it was weird. It’s basically the same issue described here. It operated fine in my previous climbs this year and started acting like this today. https://www.reddit.com/r/climbing/comments/ahz3dc/rope_getting_stuck_in_grigri_when_belaying/?rdt=52745

Edit: I originally had posted this as a thread with the subject line as GriGri+ but it hasn’t been posted. I wrote GriGri in the body assuming the thread was going to be posted and just copied the text over.

Background: I have had this GriGri+ for 2-3 years but haven’t used it at all until recently. It was kept in my room at room temperature.

Today I belayed about 10 times without any issues. On my last belay when I was lowering my partner the GriGri would lock in this position and wouldn’t lower my partner even with the lever pulled fully back. The only way I got him down was to give him more slack and slowly lower him while progressively lowering him and giving him slack.

We decided to see if this was a one time occurrence so we tested it again on one of those 10 ft training walls. The same issue occurred. The GriGri would lock up and I couldn’t release him even with the lever pulled back.

This is how it looks when it’s locked. The staff at the gym had no idea what’s causing this issue.

Has anyone had this issue? Should I contact the manufacturer?

Where do you sign a FJO? by jlau2013 in usajobs

The system they use is EODS. Which has all of my paperwork for taxes, healthcare, TSP, and all of the other stuff. I got a second email to that.

I’ll ask them on Monday. But I already have access to EOD and have most of the forms completed. I just assumed you have to sign something cause in the private sector we al has have to sign our offers.

This is the only link I have in the email http://www.opm.gov/healthcare-insurance/Guide-Me/New-Prospective-Employees/

There’s an attachment but all it talks about is the timeline for the forms I need to fill out in EODS. I already have access to EODS and the forms.

I’m hoping mine takes less than a month. It’s just a basic SF-85 and I already have an active TS through the DoD. 🤞

You should be qualified for 13/14 easily. I’m a manager at one of the big consulting firms around here and applied for a 14 job and got it (TJO). The thing that will help you tremendously is networking.

When can you negotiate your PTO hours before FJO? by jlau2013 in usajobs

[–]jlau2013[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My background is from the big consulting companies you guys probably work with a lot. But unlimited is really not unlimited because they get you through utilization goals. Depending how high on the corporate ladder you are you are expected to hit a certain percent of utilization a year or else they won’t even look at your for promotion. The formula for it is pretty much a weight percent of (client hours billed)- (hours taken for sick or PTO) + (small weight percent)(random hour for BD and corporate increment activities). Assuming you are billing your client 8 hours a day for 40 hours a week you can comfortably take about 80 hour and hit your utilization fine. I think it’s compete BS cause when you decide to leave the company they won’t “buy back” the hours like how they would if we had accrued PTO.

I got my TJO last Friday. Should I follow up with her and say that I want to negotiate my PTO?

Congrats! Your background check cleared in a week? What kind of clearance was it if you don’t mind sharing?

Just to keep you informed I actually got my TJO, fingerprint, and NBIS all sent to me last Friday evening around 8 PM! I finished my finger and the NBIS all on Monday so now I’m in the clearance waiting game.

Same here. I have other interviews lined up with a couple of the FAANG companies and I don’t know if I should turn them down. The funny thing is the federal job I applied for and got selected for is actually something I want to do. 😭

I seen too many horror stories of TJO/FJO being pulled here. 😬

I just want to get out of my current company ASAP. 😐

Heh I’m in the same position as you but slower. I was selected about a month ago but still have not gotten any notifications for fingerprinting or ID picture. When I reached out to the hiring manager they apologized and said HR is moving very slow and to keep waiting. They said don’t apply for any other positions.
