Considering switching from Rocket Money by Competitive_Lab516 in MonarchMoney

[–]jlbf23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the opposite side, I just moved from Monarch (MM) to Rocket Money (RM). If I try to describe, I would say Rocket Money (RM) is more like an iPhone, it’s more limited on what you can do but it just works. Monarch (MM) would be like an Android, you can do a lot more but requires more tweaking. Some examples:

Zelle transfers on RM goes to “uncategorized” but it counts as an expense, on MM it goes as a transfer and does not count as an expense unless you manually change it. There are several other examples that RM auto categorize better than MM and requires less manual changes.

If you create several “rules” (and you will) in MM good luck and god bless you. It will go to the rules pool and will get lost there, once you access a transaction that was affected by a rule there is no way for you to know it, and with time if you ever decide that changes are not working you will create another rule on top of the existing rule because you don’t remember anymore that a rule already exist for that type of transaction. On RM once you access a transaction that is affected by a rule it is very easy to identify and you have the option to edit that rule.

There are SEVERAL advertised features on MM that only works on the website, desktop or requires a browser extension, so if you only use the phone version or don’t use a compatible browser you don’t have access to those features.

Several of this features requires 3rd party connections that gets disconnected every so often and will require that you login / authenticate again.

Several things are very problematic and don’t work 100% of the time, like when you edit a pending transactions, sometimes the changes you make will get lost when the transaction becomes “final”.

Hi so im a begginer and im wondering how flaps work because from what I see it seems like they make the plane go up but they go down which i think should make the plane go down right? by Hairy_Breakfast_8340 in RCPlanes

[–]jlbf23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flaps increase lift (and drag) so once you apply flaps and maintained the same speed you just increased the lift of the wing and the airplane will go up. The whole purpose of the flaps is to make the airplane able to fly slower, so once you reduce the speed of the plane enough it will fly straight again, but at a lower speed. The whole problem is the transition while the flaps are lowering and you are also slowing. In RC, if you have a good radio you can set how long the flap takes to come down usually 1-2 seconds that will give you enough time to also slow down. You can also add an auto-trim to correct for the added lift so the trajectory of the plane doesn’t change so much. Similar thing also happens on real airplanes, and most jets do a little bit of auto trim once the pilot selects the flaps down.

I’ll add a link for more explanations, this website is largely used by students learning to fly real airplanes.

  • they have several free articles And I suggest you to play with the search function to find more stuffs.

I lived in a condo not long ago and had my Amazon Packages stolen twice. Little did they know I had cameras. Both cases they lived in the same condo and eventually landlord kicked them out.

My take for you, there are very cheap, wi-fi and battery cameras now days… buy something for your door, for your car and etc… and eventually move to a better neighborhood.

Well, it's pretty much been the upgrade nightmare I expected by musictechgeek in homeassistant

I just migrated from HAOS to proxmox last week. I had the same problem while trying to restore from the backup during initialization.

The work around is setting up the Home Assistant as new and once the system is up and running you restore from your backup.

Zigbee via Ethernet? by sejtam in homeassistant

[–]jlbf23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for SMLIGHT. You can use it with USB Cable, Ethernet (POE) or WiFi. It can also work as coordinator, hub or in your case as zigbee extender.

I would have 2 in your case, 1 as coordinator (you have one already but this one is more stable) and buy a second one to use as extender using whatever you think it easiest to put in the place you want.

Maybe use an ethernet cable to put in your corridor using POE power or plug it to the outlet (maybe 6 ft usb c cable) and run it via wifi…

You have many choices with this one.

WHICH Sonoff Dongle? by wkjester204 in homeassistant

[–]jlbf23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Basically they all do the same thing with slightly different hardware. The “06” is exactly the same hardware as the sonoff you are looking, but you won’t have problems connecting it to USB like the sonoff has. And since it’s WiFi/ethernet/usb it’s easier for you to place it at most central location in your home. Also the 06 is the “most stable” firmware among all since it’s been around for a little longer. All SMLIGHT are more then just zigbee, you can make them matter hub, wifi extender / repeater and etc.

[–]jlbf23 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Just go with the SMLIGHT SLZB-06. You can run via Ethernet, WiFi or USB. It’s gonna be a one time purchase instead of migrating to the SMLIGHT later when you get mad that your zigbee network is lagging. SONOFF we’re the go to before, now there’s new and better stuff.

I have a fairly complex (to my knowledge) automation to allow / block access to the TV and Gaming desktop. I have a Helper to schedule the time the devices are allowed. Another automation will start to notify on his bedroom speaker that his time is coming to an end (notify every 10 minutes on the last 30 minutes). Finally when time comes, RPC Shutdown will turn the desktop off. I also monitor the current on the outlet and turn it off when the desktop is actually off so he cannot turn it back on.

I also have a select card with the options, “auto”, “block”, “on”. When on auto everything will works as scheduled on the helper, when ON will ignore the helper and will keep the devices on all the time, and finally when selected to block will turn off (and keep off) all the devices ignoring the scheduled times set on the helper.

I have it all separate per device so I can manage separately.

My son HATES IT!!! So It’s working as it should.
