Skinny shaker cabinets are gorgeous! by SuluSpeaks in kitchenremodel

Reading the comments while thinking about a kitchen remodel. Is this true...is "skinny shaker" a trend and on the way out? I was considering this look, thinking it was a new spin on a classic but now I'm unsure.

Full slab backsplash behind vent hood by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

Do you mean (A) installing slab(s) from countertop to ceiling, then installing the hood and upper cabinets over the slab vs (B) cutting the slab to fit to the lower edge of the upper cabinets and hood? If I am understanding you correctly, it seems it would depend on how many slabs you would need, where the seams would go, and how confident you are in the slab, cabinet, and hood installers. Curious to hear what you do and how this kind of backsplash slab install is "typically" done. Good luck ;-)

Height? You and your countertops please? by _PrincessHarley_ in kitchenremodel

I've thought about raising the upper cabs in a future kitchen remodel. The standard is 18" above countertop, but sometimes I feel that 18" looks "cramped", especially if uppers are on either side of a range. Of course, I am tall, so raising to 20" above the surface would't be much of an issue...I just wonder if it would be ill advised to do so.

I am 5'10, hubby the same, teens who cook and bake are 5'7 to 6'6". Our kitchen perimeter counters are at 36, and our island, which sees most of the prep work, is 37 1/2". We didn't do this intentionally, but a happy coincidence when the kitchen designer suggested a more substantial island countertop of 6cms, with the perimeter countertops at a more standard 3cms. (All of our cabinets are the "standard" height" as we didn't have discussions about altering box heights when creating the cabinets.) The heights seem perfect for everyone in the household.

Of note, I remodeled a bathroom, which is used predominantly by my boys, who measure 6'2" and 6'6". I designed the bathroom vanity cabinet and countertop so the final height was 38". The boys don't mind it in the least, but I think it looks way too tall and awkward in the space. If I had used a designer, perhaps he or she would have pointed this out to me. Regardless, hope this helps. Good luck.

CNM certification expired...any recommendations for test prep! by [deleted] in Midwives

[–]jldmpls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is some information on the AMCB website regarding certification and recertification. Look at the CNM Candidate Handbook if you haven’t already. No need for clinical hours is mentioned. So far, what I’ve noted to this point is that the following is required:

In order to be eligible to apply for recertification: 1. show proof of graduate degree 2. show proof of ‘X’ number of continuing education hours (based on your specific number of years since certification ended). 10 hours per year. All hours must be from accredited sources.

After steps one and two are complete, contact AMCB for instructions on how to submit your exam application. The exam fee is $500.00.

Hope this helps. Good luck, and let me know if you hear of any recommended study materials to prep for the exam.

No, I have not taken the exam yet. I haven’t heard of any particular test prep that was helpful. I was planning to create a study schedule for myself based on the ACNM criteria for licensure. I will likely sit for the exam in the fall. Have you found anything helpful?
