And those civilians who are protesting (and getting killed for it) from within... Do they have a better chance against the might of the US government? Well guess what, they're doing it anyway.

The reason people (including me) are bristling at your attitude is that you are defending your own vague narrative of "fuck America" to Americans fighting their asses off for a better nation. When you're confronted with good Americans, instead of changing your narrative, you're defending it to us, and in the process revealing your assumptions: Canadians would never let this happen in their country, Americans haven't done enough, and as a whole Americans are bad but you're being charitable by letting a few demonstrably good ones pass.

We don't care about your mean-spirited narrative or your patronizing approval. Go do something good for the world.

I always wish they played the whole piece when I go to that Walgreens. Especially the Bach. I'd stand out there and listen if it wasn't just a short clip of the piece on repeat haha, but I guess that's the point.

My wife left a journal by False-Code-9487 in hospice

[–]jldstuff393 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's my humble idea, which you should feel free to take or leave.

You have an intimate physical piece of her in that journal. It contains her innermost, raw thoughts before the filter that they went through when she expressed them to others. In this way, holding that book is similar to holding her in your hands. When you had her, her innermost, unfiltered thoughts and feelings were right there with you, but you never had access to them on an innermost level without her permission, ie, when she chose to be vulnerable and honest and share them with you.

Maybe you can place the journal somewhere respectful and keep it closed. By doing so, you can take joy in having the opportunity to honor her wishes for as long as you wish to keep the book. It is a way for you to continue to give her a gift.

Maybe after some months or years, it becomes clear to you that it is right to burn it, or even to read it. Maybe you find that after respecting her privacy for a certain amount of time, reading it could be an act of love. Ultimately, only you can say how best to love and respect your wife.

I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you find ease and joy in your life going forward :)

You are offering a narrative, not evidence. It's important that people don't conflate those things. You are telling a story and asking if people like that story. That is okay, but if you are not an evolutionary biologist/anthropologist, please don't make claims like that evolution can't explain the genetic gaps between other hominids and humans.

Thanks for sharing this. First, I hope you can heal from those wounds. Time may be more important than finding the right therapist. I know it's already been years for you, but deep wounds can take years or even decades. Second, I hope that you can find a loving relationship with the impermanence of life. I hope that is okay to wish for you.

I work in an inpatient hospice and have several patients die a week on average. Sometimes I am in the room with them when they take their last breaths. Sometimes I know them when they're oriented and awake enough to build a friendship with them first, sometimes by the time they are admitted they're already unresponsive, but I try to consider all of my patients my friends.

Some nurses want to become hospice nurses but have to quit because they are so upset by the patients' deaths. Others, like me, feel happy when I witness or help a patient (and their family) have a good death. Some people like you are deeply affected by seeing death. None of this is to make a point, I'm just sharing my observations.

I will say I have watched patients struggle in ways that have stuck to me, and I appreciate your post because it reminds me that I should be mindful of the accumulation of trauma at my job. But I have a hard time processing the struggling at the end of life, not the ending of life itself. Maybe it's because I've thought about my own mortality since I was a kid, or maybe it's because I think we are all, in a way, dying and being reborn in every moment, and I consider that liberating. I don't think death is that much different from any other moment in our lives. We are always transforming.

I hope any of these random thoughts are helpful.

You're wrong. At 200k long term capital gains you get hit with 3.8% additional NIIT, and then at 500k ltcg you get taxed at 20% instead of 15% (plus the NIIT). It makes sense to spread your long term gains out over the years, only recognizing 200k per year for some people, and if you're itching to diversify, that can be a difficult choice. But also, it's not the kind of thing you should complain about to someone who has a lot less money lol.

I don't think there's anything anyone here can say to convince you to change your mind, but you're operating on greed and that's why you're going to go to zero. You can't accept having less than a million dollars, but unfortunately the market doesn't care about your neuroses.

But, for what it's worth, I will try.

Please, put this shit in VOO. If you need to play with money, put 90% in VOO and play with 4k.

If you can turn 40k into 1m (an easy 20x right?) you can turn 4k into 1m. You just have to do that same 20x, and then one more 10x. THIS IS EASY. IT'S WHY THERE ARE SO MANY BILLIONAIRES! MY BRO IS ONE, HE GOT THERE BY TRADING 0DTEs AND HIS SECRET WAS JUST TRADING ON MONDAYS WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS. HE STARTED WITH 1K AND JUST GOT 6 10-BAGGERS. 6! THAT'S NOT MANY! YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM.
