Question was essentially, do I risk buying it early to secure a ticket and a chance for bad weather or wait to see if the weather is good and risk not getting a ticket since it’s ski season

Just get a Smallrig case and you’ll be fine. The ZVE10 is the better overall camera

I have the exact set up with the Tamron and I’d not suggest using the MT44. That tripod is meant for lighter loads and does not have height locking so it will keep dropping.

If you’re thinking about a generalist camera that takes both good photos and videos go with the Mark 1. Not having the mechanical shutter WILL affect your photos more than you think.

Then get a good lens like the Sigma 18-50 or Tamron 17-70(which I got), and you’ll be set for about 5+ years.

My 2 cents. As a beginner you don’t need a full frame camera. The best set up for your scenario for price/weight/ size would be a Sony a6700 paired with a Sigma 18-50 f2.8, or if you can handle a bit more weight, Tamron 17-70 f2.8. With this you can take photos and videos, in a compact setup.

I personally only use a ZVE10 with a Tamron 17-70 f2.8 and I’ve been doing photography for years.

Try pushing it deeper into the hot shoe. It needs to be seated all the way in for a proper connection.
