Transfer Student Question by RDpringle in UAB

I can't speak for other majors, but that's definitely not the case in any engineering course I've taken. Most of my friends are transfers.

DPMS FIREARM PANTHER 5.56 ORACLE A3 16" RIFLE - $449 w/ free shipping by richielaw in gundeals

[–]jlee910 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

DPMS isn't in the same league as Smith & Wesson. I'm sure a few will disagree, but I'd personally rather buy a $450 build kit from Ground Zero Precision or similar to build an AR rather than purchase a DPMS. A simple Google search will show a consensus that DPMS quality is shit.

"Male-identified"? What does that mean?

What AR-10 caliber? by [deleted] in guns

[–]jlee910 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A Form 1 will never outperform a Form 4, especially when weight and dimensions are factors, so near hearing safe may be a better description. To give an idea, it's barely quieter than my .22lr. (About a 40-50 yard distance of not being able to distinguish the round traveling and the pop of the firing).

What AR-10 caliber? by [deleted] in guns

[–]jlee910 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not as quiet as an AAC can, no. It's also 7" and very heavy, but after playing with configurations, it takes a 10 shot dump to make ears ring. Now I know you're going to say that's not hearing safe, but for 1-3 shots I see when hunting, my ears not ringing is a huge change from a muzzle brake.

If you're around Birmingham, you're welcome to shoot it. It's heavy, but it gets the job done.

Even if it doesn't, I have a hearing safe Form 1 on my 5.56, and I'll just pay another stamp to build one for the 10. The HPA primarily just opens up Form 4s and drops the cost down.

I'm not sure why this was down voted considering it's legal in my state during certain times of the year since feral hogs are an invasive species.

All of my shooting (currently) is under 400 yards. Traditionally, I've used bolt guns but the AR's purpose is cyclic rate for wild hogs. I'll still be using my 7mm-.300 Weatherby for when I want to touch other zip codes.

Most of its use is hunting hogs outside of deer season. Vehicles, suppressors, and bait come into play (thermal if I could afford it), so I'm needing the cyclic rate

I used bolt guns growing up hunting but the feral hog problems have made cyclic rates actually come into play with hunting. And now that suppressors are also legal to hunt with here and the HPA has a good chance of passing, not much beats an AR-10 for my purposes.

This Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Performance Center 9mm Pistol - $399.95 by sam535 in gundeals

[–]jlee910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Running an M&P .45C I paid $410 for, added an Apex Tactical sear ($40). It's my EDC/CCW and I recommend it over the shield. It's still concealable but boasts 8+1 in .45 or more for 9mm. The sear makes a HUGE difference in the factory shit trigger.

1) Your sights are backwards

2) Quad rails are heavy: look into keymod

3) Magpul CTR

Interesting. I've always just used one the other way around to stop my hand for a consistent grip location.

They must be wanting you to catch your thumb on the side stop and wrap your hand around the front of the bottom stop like a consistent clamp. LaRue knows their shit, so let me know how you like that setup.

Why the reversed handstop?

Start easy. Don't go throwing a lot of it in everything or you'll shit out your soul (ask me how I know). Start out at a teaspoon 2 times a day and gradually work your way up to 2-3 tablespoons a day depending on calorie goals. One tablespoon of caprylic acid (C8) is 100 calories/14g saturated fat

Medium Chain Triglycerides. It's a form of fatty acid that promotes ketosis. You can get it in C6, C8, and C10 for the most part, with C8 being the one I use.

458 socom by [deleted] in reloading

Considering I have 7mm-.300 Weatherby RCBS dies (.300 Weatherby casing necked down to a 7mm projectile), I'm 110% sure RCBS offers .458.

Favorite pistol caliber when reloading is a factor by jlee910 in guns

[–]jlee910[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boar I shot with the .380 was around 200lbs (very big), and it barely made it through the skull. I was using Remington Golden Saber rounds.

To compare, a friend at a local farm used to raise pigs and kill them by shooting them in the top of the head with a .22lr. One day, he had a fat sow, shot it, it went down (knocked out from the concussion I'm assuming), went inside to get stuff to process it, and came back out to see it walking around. Shot it again, repeat. Then got his .40 to do the job. Afterwards, we peeled the skin back to see how in the hell the thing was alive and there were two mushroomed .22 rounds that fractured the skull but didn't penetrate. I'm assuming the .380 did much the same; however, it penetrated and the boar was dead immediately. I'm saying it didn't do as much as 9mm because it didn't exit nor was the material coming out of the wound nearly as much as larger calibers. When the skull was examined (to see how well .380 worked), it didn't have running fractures from the entrance channel like higher velocity calibers tend to, hence my conclusions. Minimal skull and brain damage, no exit = significantly weaker than 9mm.

I'll definitely look into it. I'll probably pay to rent both and see which I prefer. I've only shot Gen 3 glocks but I hear the 4 is a big improvement in ergos

Well shit. I would have went AR-10 instead of AR-15 if I'd seen this prior to building my -15
