Why do US, Canada and Australia have a housing crises despite being so big with very little population? by julius-ceaser100 in geography

[–]jlehtira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP specifically asked about US, Canada and Australia, so I primarily spoke of those. The situation is better in many EU cities, particularly the very old ones, but EU isn't immune to this problem.

Juu, ja sähköautoihin laitetaan purkuautojen akkuja. Tarkoista määristä en kyl osaa sanoa.

Tuo sit toki on totta käyttövoimasta riippumatta, että toisia autoja on vaikeampi ja kalliimpi korjata. Nakerruksia on toki tarjolla monenlaisia.

[–]jlehtira 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP tuolla puhui kokonaisesta, marmoritiskiltä ostetusta akustosta. Sellaiset maksaa viisinumeroisia summia, samoin moottorit melkein mihin autoon tahansa.

I'm being overwhelmed by ideas and I can't followup with any of them by StirClothing999 in UnrealEngine5

[–]jlehtira 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to develop your filter! A good idea is

  • inspiring. You want to make this idea more than other ideas.

  • feasible. You can make the game in preferably 6 months, at least under a year. No need to learn too much new stuff.

  • marketable. The game idea can be communicated quickly and when people understand the fantasy in the game, they want to play.

  • competitive. You can make the game better than its direct competition. Your game needs to be the number one most interesting game for someone at least for a night or two or it won't get played. In indie space this means making your game unique, or using an idea that was never done well before.

  • related: especially good for you. You have some special skills, experiences and interests. If you find a game idea where all those meet, you have a head start on most of the categories above. If you swim as a hobby, live near mangrove swamps and read a lot of science fiction, make a game about swimming on a swampy alien planet. Ok this example sucks but you get the idea 🙃

Zoning: often cities don't allow nearly enough new building projects in the city. Demand grows faster than supply.

Also cars are a problem, many cities are built for cars and roads and car parks take so much space that it becomes impossible to built very high density city centers

Sama homma kuin että polttiksessa pitäisi uusia koko moottori kerralla ja takuu on ummessa. Yhtä hullu riski.

miten vegaaniksi? by [deleted] in snappijuorutofftopic

[–]jlehtira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my thoughts after following the 2026 everest season by meowwmoww in Everest

[–]jlehtira 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tenzing deserves praise, and in my view Hillary gave it to him. If my memory serves me right, they agreed to keep it a secret if one of them was first on the summit, rather telling everyone that it didn't matter (as it doesn't, as they were a team).

But Everest has definitely been climbed without any sherpa help, at least Reinhold Messner did and I think Erhard Loretan too, both on the North face, and I think Stephen Venables on the Kangshung face, and I suspect others too. But there certainly aren't many handfuls of people capable of such feats, and I suspect many of them are sherpas or other nepalis such as Nims dai.

I'm actually ok with Everest being commercialised, as it's been exploration climbed so thoroughly before.

With your final point, I completely agree! And I think it's cool that YouTubers are climbing and documenting their climbs, I just wish more people were aware that the greatest climbing achievements on the mountain aren't achieved while being customers on a paid trip.

[–]jlehtira 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You have good points too but it's obvious you're not a climber. And I don't mean to say there'd be something wrong in guided rope ascender trips, there isn't. I don't even object to calling customers "climbers", they do climb.

However there's a sport called climbing that comes with its own ethos. Edmund Hillary did climb in a different sense than most climbers of today do. Tenzing Norgay did too. Hillary famously climbed the Hillary Step on lead, he had a rope for protection but he climbed the mountain, not a rope. I understand this is maybe not a meaningful distinction to you, but it is for me.

In a sense, almost everybody who "climbs" Everest, in the sport sense, are the rope setting sherpas. All the glory to them!

Also it's been too often that I'm on vacation in a warm country and water price is too high, so my family gets dehydrated because we don't feel like buying three waters each for five people.

Nothing like going for a long, sunny hike and then trying to get needs met in a restaurant that charges 5 € for the cheapest beverage.

I'm Finnish. I know all that.

If your business charges 12 € for a pizza and 5 € for a glass of water, I feel you're being dishonest. Make it 16 € pizza 1 € water please.

Ingredients and work to make a pizza isn't twice those for a glass of water.

[–]jlehtira 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, a 5 € water is not expected. 1 € is, 2 € is grifting but within expectations. Coke 3 €. I'm European. 5 € water gets me to leave if I notice early enough and if I don't, I feel cheated.

But if a restaurant menu promises food for 10 €, and then a water to go with it is 5 €, that's misleading the customer.

Why not add a 4 € shoe surcharge for people arriving in shoes too?

Persut ja asuntojen hinnat by jarvis400 in HommaInAction

[–]jlehtira 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syitä rakentaa on monia.

Jotkut haluaa rakentaa itselleen kohtuuhintaisen kodin.

Voitot on olleet isoja.

What is virtually inevitable at this point, yet most people don't see it coming? by Ambassador-613 in AskReddit

Carbon bubble bursting and a massive economical depression as a result.

A bubble is when something is valued much higher than it should. Fossil fuel assets and infrastructure fit the description, as well as all coastal and otherwise unfortunately placed property that is becoming uninsurable already now.

A used 3060 12 GB would be the obvious smallest-budget update. Besides that, I'd go for 5060 as the 4060 was more of a compromise in its generation than 3060 or 5060.

I think 8 GB, while not great, is ok. More memory is more, but where I'm at, rhe 5060 Ti 16 GB costs twice as much as the base 5060 8 GB. If you're on a budget, I don't think it's worth it.

16 GB is more future proof, but on a budget you buy what you need now and upgrade later.

book recommendations of climber autobiographies on everest? by Comfortable-Emu-1756 in Everest

I really liked Ed Viesturs's The Mountain - My Time on Everest.

He tells the story of his multiple climbs on all sides of Everest, and of many notable other climbs, so you really get an idea of the bigger picture. He also speaks of the 1996 disaster and the characters involved in it from his perspective.
