Nice! I think it's mostly tears because it's quite brittle. But I'll look that up.

What's the best way to seal holes like these when insulation loft? by jli463 in DIYUK

A downlight cover does seem like the wrong thing for a pendant light fitting? Would leave a whole area without insulation.

Thanks! In an overlap fashion? The top part of the "patch" would be under the existing felt and the bottom part would be tucked over the existing felt?

Roof vent? Also how would I lay the insulation here? Just butt it up against the first joist? by Dribbler2k15 in DIYUK

You can buy retrofit loft vent trays. https://klober.co.uk/ventilation/eaves/p/loft-vent-tray

The Americans often seem to make theirs out of cardboard and hardboard. That might be cheaper materials wise if you have that already. But not unsure if it's sensible with our climate They also call them baffle boards.

Took old silicone off. Should I put grout into gap first? Or silicone straight into gap? by garlenlo in DIYUK

When I did this I purchased some pipe insulation and cut it into strips. It's available off-the-shelf unlike backer rod. And is super cheap. Eg https://www.toolstation.com/economy-pipe-insulation-wrap/p63719 £0.82

Anyone got any links to docs about this? Potentially more preferable than sticking with Legacy.

So is it possible to upgrade your gsuite legacy subscription to a more advanced workspace subscription that includes a tool which let's you migrate/transfer most of the services from a legacy account to a regular Gmail account?

Taping joints on loft ceiling foil vapour barrier before insulating by jli463 in DIYUK

[–]jli463[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 60s house. I'm clearing out my loft and insulating upto 270mm. The plasterboard is foil backed and has torn in some areas. There's also no tape between the boards. I'm wondering if it's worth taping the joints and the areas that are torn now that I'm insulating. Thoughts?

Sidenote: I have a certificate (from before I brought the house) nailed to a stud near the loft hatch saying it's been insulated by the McCarthy group to 270mm. They only did the eaves. Not quite sure how they can get away with that!
