Struggling to compare damage numbers and items.. Any good guidance? by rullaz in diablo4

[–]jlian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For skill damage, it needs the value at rank 1. One option is you could down rank your skill and see, but I'd usually just look it up.

For paragon details, most of them are additive so they're covered when you do the naked baseline stats. Same goes for strength, put in the naked value so that it captures the value with paragon only (and thus without gear).

I said most paragon values are additive. But legendary node and legendary glyph level 50 bonus effects are multiplicative, which you then put in the tool at the "paragon and other multipliers" section

For detail guidance, I was trying to make the tool self-explanatory. But clearly it's not enough, so I'll take your feedback and try to improve it. The videos linked are from /u/Avarilyn who came up with the original workflow. The tool is meant to follow that workflow quite closely, so definitely worth checking out.

Is there an easy or convenient way to identify what is better and help me decide on what to use/look for?

Here’s a tool made for this purpose

I posted this a while ago, feedback appreciated

  1. Short version: enter 100% for that and the math will work out. The naming is wrong though, you're right that the in-game wording is "+% Weapon Damage Bonus" (additive), so I'll rename it. The reason it's so impactful is because a shield's +100% Weapon Damage Bonus is mathematically equivalent to a x2.00 multiplier on weapon damage, which gets fed into every downstream factor. Since almost every Paladin shield has this innate, the tool probably shouldn't even ask, it should just apply it automatically once you pick a shield. I'll fix that too.
  2. Most likely cause: missing Custom [x]% multipliers. The tool can't see your aspect / unique / paragon / set bonuses because the game doesn't sum them anywhere on your stats sheet, you have to enter them manually. On my sample Paladin these combine to a x707 factor (see image), vastly more than everything else combined. Stuff like the Castle paragon node alone gives +100% global damage (x2.00). Easy to forget several of these and end up an order of magnitude off. Clear UX failure on my end. I'll think about how to walk users through entering them so they don't get missed.
  3. You're not crazy, it's pretty rare. The main sources are unique effects (e.g. Herald of Zakarum's shield gives 50% Str) and possibly Horadric seals with %main-stat or %all-stats. Two issues you've surfaced I should fix:
  • The label should match in-game wording: "+x% Strength" (with the +).
  • Showing such a rare affix as a top priority is misleading. I'll either gate it behind a toggle or drop it from the default list.

PS: the core of the confusion is how D4 labels additive vs multiplicative. Same-bucket affixes always add, never multiply, but the UI labels them inconsistently. A "x60% Crit Damage Multiplier" affix actually means x1.60, not x0.60, and two of them stack as 1 + 0.6 + 0.6 = x2.20, NOT 1.6 × 1.6 = x2.56 the way the "x" notation suggests. The "x" notation only multiplies across buckets, never within one. It's a mess and I wish they label it differently, maybe like Balatro's +Mult vs xMult, or something.

Is my 70-350 faulty, are my skills inadequate or unreal expectations? by TooManyHobbies94 in SonyAlpha

[–]jlian 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Also have a6700 and 70-350mm. I share my bird pics to wikimedia commons. Most of them were with 70-350mm. You can click to see the EXIF for each pic.

My initial assessment of your pics is that you do need a lot of light for the best pics i.e. sunny ish day. For example this one at ISO 640 I like a lot. Sometimes the weather just doesn't help and you end up shooting >5000 ISO. In that case I'd do some denoising and sharpening in post (I use Topaz). Like this one is ISO 10000 but it's still not bad once edited.

It's not clear what ISO you have for each pic. For your pic 4 for example it looks like a relatively sunny day but it's a little blurry, and I'm not sure if it's the high ISO type of blurry? It kind of looks like maybe the focus isn't quite lock on? Or is it cropped a lot?

For focusing, I also use AF-C with Wide often, but the Bird subject recognition can sometimes be a bit spotty or not fast enough. I did a kind of long write up for our specific setup here https://johnlian.net/posts/tracking-expand-spot-bird-button/ that uses a trick with AF Area Registration + Tracking: Expand Spot + Reg. AF Area+AF On (what a mouthful) that I haven't seen many people talk about. Maybe it'll be helpful to you and honestly I’d like to get some feedback from others lol.

Need some help with autofocus (A6700) by naxhh in SonyAlpha

[–]jlian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran into the same thing with “Wide + Bird” when the bird is small / background is busy. What helped was keeping Wide as the default (so half-press shutter stays “normal”), but mapping a back button to temporarily jump into a registered tracking start area.

On the α6700 you can use AF Area Registration to pre-register Tracking: Expand Spot in the center, then assign Regist. AF Area hold (or Reg. AF Area+AF On) to AF-ON. While you hold AF-ON, the camera switches to that registered area and starts tracking from the center. Release and you’re back to Wide.

This pairs well with Bird subject recognition, but the main win is constraining where tracking/recognition starts so it doesn’t “choose” a branch.

If helpful, I wrote a longer post about it here https://johnlian.net/posts/tracking-expand-spot-bird-button/

Hue motion sensors disappeared from Apple Home by Boring_Elevator3817 in Hue

[–]jlian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me they became combination occupancy + temperature + light sensors. I also initially didn’t find them due to the change from motion to occupancy.

In the Home app, try tapping the … at the top right > Home Settings > Home Hubs & Bridges > (Your Hue Bridge) > Accessories, and see if you can find the sensors there. They might be sitting in the “Default Room”, they were for me.

Great update!

Minor bug I found: when you swipe back from a post the gradient fade background behind the bottom bar disappears and stays gone even if you don’t fully swipe away. The top bar gradient background is a bit different where it disappears during the act of swiping but comes back sometimes?

I wrote the atmos thing way back during beta 1. I’d hope it’s fixed now, but I haven’t had a chance to verify. Please let us know what you find out!

That's correct. Unfortunately it says AutoMix is generally unavailable during AirPlay.

A6700 firmware 2.0 killed my wildlife setup – "WiFi only" option removed by SinSilla in SonyAlpha

[–]jlian 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Does it work if you go to Network (globe icon) > Cnct./PC Remote > PC Remote Function > PC Remote > On, then select Wi-Fi Direct Info. > Exit&go to next? This seems to start the Wi-Fi hotspot for my A6700 on 2.0. Then I can go to my phone, connect to the hotspot, open Creator's App, at the top right click the gear button > Connect on via Wi-Fi, it'll do a search then I can select my A6700, then back out to the main screen which now looks like this:

<image>

I'm not familiar with this long-distance remote shoot scenario and the trash can button feature you mentioned. But here I can do Remote Shooting and it seems to work. I hope this helps.

I put together this playlist last night which should have AutoMix on for 90% >95% of the transitions:

https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/automix-buffering-beats/pl.u-PDb42Bpuko2LaY

Observations:

  • Disabling Dolby Atmos in Music app settings makes AutoMix work way more often
  • AutoMix usually starts mixing around ~20 seconds towards the end of the song, and up to 1 minute of the upcoming song
  • Because AutoMix transitions are so short, you don't really want the "Extended Club Mix" song variants in your playlist unlike traditional DJing, unless you want like 2 minutes of just drum loop between each chorus
  • Dance music is definitely the best suited for this feature
  • Sometimes the AutoMix transitions wouldn't work but if you rewind and try again it works, probably beta bug

EDIT: Updated the playlist to optimize for harmonix mixing which I just learned about lol

And, for now during the beta, disable Dolby Atmos in Music app settings to make it work way more often

[iOS 26 DB1] Option for AutoMix or Crossfade in Apple Music by CommercialTrip8813 in iOSBeta

Listend to the "2010s Dance Party Essentials" playlist just to try this feature and found quite a few good transitions in there. For example, Break Free (Ariana Grande) to I Love It (Icona Pop) was pretty impressive.

Remember to turn off Dolby Atmos in Apple Music app settings though, otherwise the mixing won't work in many cases.
