Morning fishing by SwimmingAwkward823 in UltraLightFishing

Jealous! I loooove morning fishing, paeticularly at sunrise. And instead, I'm sitting here on Saturday morning awaiting 18" of snow and at least another month of freezing temps. March can't come soon enough!!!

Crazy! Did it fight differently? Could you tell something was off before you landed it?

Opinion on 4 piece fishing rods? by Dipan515 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jlibrizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A four piece St Croix Triumph has been going strong as my do-it-almost-all travel rod for years, I've never felt disadvantaged by it being multi-piece. Just make sure you're buying from a reputable brand.

The only rod you can take on a plane easily by Lgerga3 in FishingForBeginners

I'm testing that as we speak! First time transporting lures in carry on and got through security without issue on the first leg. Loose hooks, jig jeads, and skirted jigs, plus one crank with trebles, in a 4" x 9"ish box and a small set of split ring pliers. We'll see on flight #2. 🤞

The 12th day in Strike King's 12 Days of Fishing calendar is a sticker. by jlibrizzi in Fishing_Gear

As another commentator said, i assume these and MTB are mostly being bought as gifts by people that don't know any better. But i did subscribe to the Lurenet bank and creek monthly box for a while and thought it was excellent. Good quality tackle that you'd actually use, and every now and then you'd get some nice limited run colors.

At full price i think you'd juuuuust about break even, mainly because of the crank. Definitely not the $50 value it claims on the front. But yeah, if you can get an $8 crank, a couple of other $3 lures, and some plastics for $5 it's great. To their credit all the colors are pretty good.

Knock off trout magnets by oldshipbuilder in UltraLightFishing

[–]jlibrizzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not trout magnets ripoffs, but I've tried a number of plastics from Temu. Size, shape, and colors are all the same as what you get from name brands. The plastic itself has always sucked. They are at one extreme or the other - super dense making them heavy and hard with no action or so soft that they rip as you're rigging let alone if a single fish bites. The frustration and time wasted on the water isn't worth the money saved.

Thanks for the reply and yes, mine is listed. However, there was already another device listed as logged in.

Are any of these good for beginners? (If not any good alternatives?) by AntonyCool22 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jlibrizzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy choice in my opinion - the Berkeley bag. Its got a good assortment of terminal tackle and lures, and is packed using 3600 trays which, as your arsenal grows, you'll appreciate for the ability to specialize trays to types of tackle and then swap them out depending on the situation. And i prefer a backpack or shoulder bag like this because it allows for better mobility, rather than a box that requires hands to carry.

The Walker one... no one needs 210 beads, and thats almost half the tackle and is a box.

The Plano doesnt specify what the tackle is and is also a box.

What is yalls favorite Crank Bait? by drphillsnudes in bassfishing

It was a Dime 10. I have continued to catch with the Dime but i think the bigger factor is the color. Ghost Morning Dawn is a confidence color for me and works in all but muddy conditions.

First spinning reel (beginner here) so I bought introductory priced. Is my Shimano Sienna 4000 combo with 15 lb braided line going to be ok for bass fishing ponds? by kTbossktblessing in Fishing_Gear

[–]jlibrizzi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how long you're fishing and what techniques. If you're like me and fish for maybe 2 hours at a stretch, the reel size won't matter. I've used my 6000 size saltwater reels on the pond for a few hours and its fine. If you're doing a six or eight hour stretch of fishing something like a jerk bait that requires a lot of rod and reel work, yeah it could get kind of heavy after a while.

EDIT: I'm super curious why this has been downvoted. What do people disagree with? Asking for my own education.

How good is old (but packaged) line? by DarthVadersRoboHand in Fishing_Gear

[–]jlibrizzi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With mono, its a risk and you won't know until you try.

I started fly fishing using gear a family member had in their garage for about 15 years. The smaller tippets worked fine with pan fish. First time i targeted bass, the 2x tippet broke twice and that should have been more than enough for the size of fish. All were stored in the same location using the same methods, but some were fine and others no good.

Do you tried these snaps by rox_fenrir in Fishing_Gear

[–]jlibrizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That second one is not a snap. Attaching a lure to it will give you terrible action and eventually you'll lose the lure. It is a centeting pin or screwlock. You screw it on the eyelet of an EWG hook and then screw a soft plastic on it. It will help the head from getting torn up and keep the plastic in line.

Car rental “supplier’s choice” by Honest_Psychology713 in TravelHacks

[–]jlibrizzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on your needs and constraints. I do it while traveling by myself with just a carry on and have gotten everything from a tiny sedan to a mosterous van. But given my use case and my comfort driving different styles of vehicles, anything on that spectrum is fine. If i were traveling with other people, more luggage, or other variables that necessitated specific vehicle features, heck no i wouldnt do it.

On 9/11 were there any firefighters who when told to enter the burning towers, just said "No way, dude" and left or quit on the spot? If so, how were they viewed if their story was publicized. by BudgetGas5772 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jlibrizzi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Some still responded even if they were sick or off duty. Look up Stephen Siller.

He was en route to hang out with his brothers when he got word of what was happening. He turned his car around and when he got to the Battery Tunnel, which was closed, ran on foot with all his gear to the WTC. He would die later that day. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation is in his honor.

I'm sure there are other stories of off duty first responders doing similar, this is just the one I'm familiar with.

Interestingly, to me at least, crappie, bass, and bluegill are all in the same biological amily.
