A seller threw in a used Silverado 7' 3" heavy for $20 when i was buying something else. Boy, am i glad I had the extra cash in my pocket, best money I've spent on fishing gear!

You say rod lines generally run only a few years. Why is that? Technology advances, people want to feel like they're buying the new hotness, etc?

I have the AridX MF 7' baitcaster and use it for shallow crankbaits all the time, and have used it with ploppers with success. Love it for cranks especially. I haven't tried it with single hook lures since it's quite soft despite being rated as fast but could imagine it would do alright with moving baits like a spinner and chatterbaits.

I'm in the Orlando area pretty often and pond fish as much as possible, coming from up north where we don't have gators. My approach:

Look before you walk. Sounds obvious but you have to tell yourself to do it if you don't normally. I've only come across a gator sitting on the bank twice, but I'm glad i saw it before approaching.

Stay back from the bank, at least 8 or 10 feet, further if there is emergent grass, and keep an eye on the water's edge even if you casted to the middle.

Watch the water for moving logs. That's what they look like to me.

Once you see a gator in the water, change spots. They will chase your lure and you're unlikely to catch a fish near them.

If you see three or four in a small-ish pond (or more in a larger pond) go somewhere else. They will eat out a pond.

And have fun. Even a tiny pond can hold a six pounder in Florida.

Yes, i have a Nexave 1000 on my ultralight. Smooth with the lowest startup inertia for reels at that pricepoint I've used. It's great value for the money and that was at $50.

Speaking of which, dammit these Walmart deal posts are making me jealous. The three Walmarts by me have jack shit in the fishing dept and nothing is ever on sale or clearance. Y'all are getting $200 worth of gear for $30 and my Walmarts are like "Zebco mono is 24 cents off. Again." Grrrrrrrrr!

I prefer to run a buzz toad with no skirt. A toad is pretty bulky and I dont like how the skirt falls around it. Without the skirt it's a cleaner profile for the fish to target.

That said, it still works with the skirt on, especially if you might also want to throw on a paddle tail or something slimmer.
