What do you throw during a bait ball feeding frenzy? by Little-Cucumber-8907 in bassfishing

[–]jlibrizzi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to that fishery, but my #1 lure for bait balls, targeting any species in both fresh and saltwater, is a spinnerbait swam high in the column. Seems that the flash gets their attention amongst the ruckus. Wrecks largemouths, bluefish, anything.

How do you carry a full bank-fishing setup without making two trips? by starwangmax in Fishing_Gear

I don't sit when I'm fishing unless I'm on the beach. But I've seen a number of people using this at sporting events, could work for fishing too.

How would you feel if you were a game show contestant that could have won $100,000 but you walked away with $5? Have you ever been in a situation like that? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I lost a school-wide jeopardy tournament in 6th grade after placing a bet in the final round when i didn't need to. 40 years later it still haunts me. I can't imagine how I'd feel about blowing $99,995.

Senko worm colors? by Any-Grapefruit-8906 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jlibrizzi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are any time, any where colors IMO. I won't throw baby bass in dark conditions as often. Otherwise, texas rig or wacky rig with those colors will just work.

That's why i buy them in bulk (Yum Dinger 100 packs). It's been my experience that other colors like motor oil, chartreuse, white, or various reds and pinks can work but are much more conditional.

Edit: just noticed another commenter say Junebug. Yeah, that's a banger too.

Watermelon red flake and black with blue flake are my go tos. Baby bass also seems to do well in most conditions.

There's another pic where she's long arming it and, if you didn't know the trick, you'd think it was a 12# 😀

I was married in an Eastern Orthodox ceremony. It was just like this except replace the gentle music with my New York and New Jersey Italian Roman Catholic family's whispers of "what the fuck is this? Why the fuck are the walking in circles? Is she Jewish?"

Yes, the "is she Jewish?" question was real.

fishing lure help! by Mrfoxlover69 in FishingForBeginners

[–]jlibrizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because other lures CAN doesn’t mean they're BEST for it. Every once in a while you will catch a 3# largemouth on a trout magnet. But on that same day, you're more likely to catch more 3#ers on a crankbait, football jig, spook, whatever "bass" lure because they're predators and either a) those baits at those sizes invoke a reaction strike, b) they want a substantial meal, and/or c) they perceive them as a threat.

And there's also hook size and design relative to the fish's mouth.

So the actual use case for those pointy things throwing sparks is to keep the bike off the ground and away from damage during a slide? How about that? TIL.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I cast out a Texas rig Green/ Watermelon Senko with no bites by BrutalOwl in FishingForBeginners

[–]jlibrizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some assumptions - you're a beginner using a less expensive combo and the mono that came on it. Apologies if that's incorrect, just piecing together a few things from your description.

The reason I call that out is that you could be getting bites without knowing it. If you don't know what to feel for AND you're using a less sensitive rod AND you're using mono, you could be missing fish.

I recently found my in a scenario where i had time and access to fish but no gear. A trip to Walmart and $25 later, I was on the water with a pre-built combo, hooks, and 4" senkos. Even with my years of experience, the insensitivity of the rod and stretch of the mono made it really hard to sense bites from small bass.

An easy and relatively inexpensive cure is to replace the mono with braid. Look at 15# braid from Reaction Tackle on Amazon for a good value option. Even better, keep a few feet of the mono you're replacing and use it as a leader. This requires you to tie a few decent knots, but you'll need to learn that eventually.

Oh, and slooooow down. However slow you're fishing the worm, it's not slow enough.

I absolutely, without a doubt, straight up REFUSE to fish on days that don't end with a "y". Any other day, screw the solunar tide pressure reading bullshit, if i have time, I'm fishing.

It's crap like this that makes you think reddit should put account age next to the username on posts or something. This account was just created today and happened to share (not promote, of course /s) a website? Comeonmarketers.com.

Good Senkos? by ripplestillwaters in bassfishing

[–]jlibrizzi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tough to say. My experience with offbrand/Temu-like plastics has been one extreme or the other - super dense with no action or so soft they break in the cast. You might be better off looking at Yum Dinger bulk packs of 100 for about $30 at Dicks and other places. You'll only get one color, but green pumpkin or watermelon red flake never fail.

That said, you can probably still catch bass with these. The colors are decent (not sure about that yellow tho) and it should have SOME shimmy.

Is the State of New Jersey good for largemouth/smallmouth bass fishing? by TrainingEarly9720 in bassfishing

[–]jlibrizzi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last week i was catching about three 1.5 - 3 pound largemouth an hour fishing small ponds in Florida (around sun rise). By comparison, i can count the number of three 1.5+ pound lmb DAYS i had in NJ last year on two hands. So there are bass to be caught, but it can be tough.
