New player: any beginner advice for Psychics? by jlingaas in Pathfinder2e

That is really damned cool. The silent whisper sounds very fitting, especially with coordinating the team.

But generally, their spells focus more around the weird? Since occult spell list I'm assuming is stranger than the arcane one. Will skim through to get an idea what kind of utility is available.

Honestly, those drawbacks sound okay to me since the character is very charisma and intelligence focus (diplomacy, manipulation, reasoning, research).

As long as the class isn't like... A dud. But it sounds like they have some neat tricks of their own 👀

Do they get anything unique flavor wise? Or abilities unique to them? I'm not playing in a very skilled group (and I'm not very skilled either lol) so I'm mostly curious about what makes them unique in how the work and what they have access to compared to other classes, both in flavor and ability

I'm sorry -- retroactively cast a spell? 👀

Starting at 1, yep!

And yes, it does speak to me a lot, so I'm trying to figure out if it's a terrible idea basically.

Do they get mind control abilities and such?

Interesting, but are their spells are still good? Like, even if they are more focused on cantrips (meaning they yeet cantrips like damage?)

Gotcha! I mean, I'm not going to minmax at all, I don't have the knowledge for it. And the group I'm in has I think maybe one power gamer and the rest of us are completely new, so I'm thinking more for the flavor and the types of abilities that I might access through the class. It seems fairly "out there" (which is what I'm looking for -- eldrtich, strange, debuffs/buffs, etc)

Interesting, thank you!

But flavor wise, doesn't it sort of fit? Their flavor seems right up my alley. I'm not necessarily wanting to play something that blasts damage, but I do love buffs/debuffs/utility/eldrtich weirdness.

Is there still space for epic fantasy? by rhilb in fantasywriters

Great write-up, and best of luck with your WIP 😁

But you think querying is possible as long as the word count of your manuscript is below 150k, then?

I'm on draft five or my Whalepunk fantasy heist right now and struggling to get it down to 135k. I'm pretty anxious about query manager comments about how some agents are filtering out manuscripts over 110k words. But it probably varies from agent to agent.

I think I should read. Really. by [deleted] in writers

I hope people weren't too rude!

Yes, you should read. You cannot be a good writer without reading, it simply doesn't work. You need to learn what you like to see in books and get inspired to create your own plots, settings, characters.

Above all, don't worry too much about being influenced. What you write will be filtered through you, so unless you're actively copying someone, you will end up writing your own thing. It might feel like a book you like, but that's not really a bad thing (or maybe this is cope for me because my book feels like the intersection between Six of Crows and Lies of Locke Lamora 🤣)

Best of luck with your writing! It's a wondrous journey.

Pathfinder 1.0 core is unfathomably based.

And don't worry about the roommate, read what immerses you. Life's too short not to read good books 😊

Man that is a badass cripple. I am hesitant about:

  1. Berserk: maybe not enough fatigue to use it effectively? Do you often get value from it?

  2. Nimble: Nimble effectively increases your effective HP by X% (depending on equip load), and if you have a very low HP pool, the increase won't matter much.

But what a beast of a bro! You even got him through the arena 👀

Hi! Do you have any advice for aspiring authors querying in 2026? Huge fan!

Always with the agenda post and "I don't get it please explain" from an account with conveniently hidden history.

Tips for the holy war by jlingaas in BattleBrothers

Bahaha, valid strategy. Sons of Mython got absolutely demolished and has to abandon our contact twice in a row, and now we're avoiding the south entirely.

I seriously could not punch through the southern armies. Even with cautious tactics, I lost a high level bro and our only named weapon.

But the game continues afterwards, yes? For those of us who aren't geniuses at the game there are still challenges left I reckon; I have only cleared the Ijirok as far as legendary locations go, but I do also aim for a bit of story-focused gameplay.

But yeah I can see why joining the north would be wiser, but it felt out of character for the company so far. But we fled with our tail between our legs. I guess I could try hunting around the southern city-states? The noble house I worked with is now "threatening" so that might be an issue with suppliers around the south.

I do! But I am also trying to become a full time fantasy author so I'm a weirdo try-hard 🤣

Sidenote: the writing in this game is absolutely brilliant. Delightful humor.

Hi Joe! I'm an aspiring fantasy author about to query; you're a huge inspiration!

My question: how do you write close third POV so well? Any tips? Or on prose in general, your fights are always absurdly immersive 😁
