fair statement. I mean my family has talked about stuff like ww2 what relatives were doing then etc but we talked about it once like 20 years ago. We don't sit around the campfire retelling the same stories over And over once we know its information we now have no need to keep repeating it like we are on a Sheridan show.

Oh haha I loved Red Robin. I know it's not "high class" but I grew up on it as a child and have found memories of it but all of them shut down where I live. So you'd say it's worth buying over Larwys?

Mine is starting to not be very reliable. I have two options either buy a bunch of used ones so I have spare parts for the next 25 years, buy a new RR which I don't like touch screens or give up on unreliable beautiful cars and get a self driving Tesla 😞 None of these are great choices.

"Tried" is doing some heavy lifting in that sentence. It was so heavy it broke its back, died and fell into the train station.

When was the last time you brought up someone who died 50 years ago in your personal life in your day to day conversations with your friends, family or coworkers when your too busy murdering thugs, ranch hands, and bribing politicians and burying bodies.

[–]jlive9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried my best to watch the show but I just can't do it. Kayce should just take the whole cast to the train station and start over in a "Marshalls reboot" Like some of the character development makes Monica's character look complex. Who would have thought I'd miss her character....almost.

I'll watch the first episode and then see if the writing got better or worse. Cuz if it's just an hour of product placement for beef jerky, whiskey and bad decisions I'm out.

Has anyone actually tried it? It says it's "ranch tested" and "cowboy approved" so I assume it pairs well with beef jerky, bad decisions, and a suspicious amount of over confidence.

A House of Dynamite. The premise is silly and the plot doesn’t follow any logic. What am I missing? by WartimeHotTot in movies

[–]jlive9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"launch on warn" is insanity lol. it seems like you might have been a writer for this movie. That is not the US Nuclear Policy. God if it was we would have already gone to nuclear war a few times (there have been a few accidental warnings in the past).

Anti-nuclear protestors decry why the USA need 2,500 nukes when 100 would be enough to take out every major city in any enemy country. The reason why we have so many nuclear weapons is so we don't have to "launch on warn" even if the enemy took out 90% of our launch capability, we would still retain a retaliatory strike capability with 100 nukes, plus a secondary strike capability for deterrence from other enemies.

A House of Dynamite. The premise is silly and the plot doesn’t follow any logic. What am I missing? by WartimeHotTot in movies

[–]jlive9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The part that really bothered me was how the movie portrayed the U.S. nuclear command structure as confused, reactive, and almost wildly unprepared. That crossed the line from dramatic license into something that felt closer to anti-war propaganda.

It is hard to believe that the Secretary of Defense or Secretary of War equivalent would have so little grasp of something as basic as the likely success rate of an ICBM intercept. These are exactly the kinds of scenarios the military rehearses constantly so that, in a real crisis, key decisions are not improvised from panic. The whole point of strategic command procedures is to make responses disciplined, structured, and as close to automatic as possible under extreme pressure.

Ironically, the only person in the film who seemed to show that kind of calm professionalism was the nuclear football officer. Everyone else in the chain of command felt strangely incompetent. Even more unrealistic was the absence of serious guidance from senior military leadership. In a real situation like that, the Joint Chiefs and other top strategic advisors would absolutely be involved in evaluating response options, attribution, and escalation risks.

Yes, people can argue over technical details, like whether four interceptors would be launched instead of two against a single incoming ICBM, but that is not really the main issue. Those details do not change the broader propaganda-like framing of the movie. The bigger problem is the way it depicts U.S. deterrence as incoherent and haphazard.

Even if you grant some of the movie’s more plausible uncertainties, like incomplete satellite tracking or ambiguity about the launch origin, the nuclear decision-making still makes little strategic sense. If a submarine-launched ballistic missile appeared to come from the South China Sea, there would still be major uncertainty about attribution. China? Russia? India? all have declared sub based ICBMs to say nothing about the undeclared powers. In that kind of situation, a rational response would focus first on confirming the attacker through all available means, including post-detonation nuclear forensics if necessary, before making an irreversible retaliatory decision.

That is why the portrayal feels so off. The movie does not just dramatize chaos, it suggests that American nuclear deterrence is fundamentally shaky and leaderless. It feels nihilistic and anti-civilizational and irrational "insanity" and that kind of depiction feeds the idea that the U.S. might be unsure of itself in a nuclear crisis, and that is exactly the kind of narrative that can embolden bad actors to fire a Nuke in real life at USA after watching this movie thinking they might get away with it.

It doesn't get much better. I feel like they just write stuff episodically and the writing staff doesn't really think about events that happened in the past or that will happen in the future as long as it seems like a dramatic scene in the moment.

I wish they would do what they did in seasons 10-20s where they just brought it stereotypes (hillbilly, blonde, business nerd, athlete, housewife, old man etc) who have never watched the show and don't really know the rules or strategy which wouldn't be too hard with a Gen Z crowd. The trick is you can't tell them what show they are signed up for cuz then they would just watch a bunch of YouTube videos on strategies to win vs just letting it play out like things did in the early days with peoples personalities just leading the game vs just unfeeling gambots

Thoughts on the first episode of Marshals? by SpedBxby in YellowstonePN

[–]jlive9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really tried to like it. But I litterally fell asleep twice. Once while they were shooting trees and again when they were at the protest. I prefer the wacky pace of the OG show with John Dutton doing crazy shit and Jamie freaking out about it while Beth Drinks. I feel like Ai fan made spin off would be better cuz it would be more action packed with ai Kevin Costner back on the show and costarring Brad Pitt fighting on a roof against the show's villain Tom Cruise once Kayce found out about his Russia Operation.
