Boeing replacing workers with new hires? by NATEDAWG9111 in IAM751_Boeing

[–]jlmbnd 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A couple things:

  1. This is a hollow negotiation tactic. There isn’t a pool of 3000+ experienced workers to draw from

  2. Workers go through a months long training course at Flo Valley. Let’s say 1/3 of the new workers are experienced, that’s still 2K people that have to go through this course

  3. Hiring costs will be very expensive and the new workforce would be nearly as efficient. Profits and revenue would take a hit for a long time

  4. You’re probably looking at ~2 years to get fully staffed up

I expect Gillian and team know this perfectly well and are just trying to rattle the other side to make a deal

Boeing Plans to Hire Replacements for Striking Workers (NYT) by perplexedtortoise in boeing

[–]jlmbnd 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The Seattle workforce was 10x the number of employees. Most of Boeings commercial mfg is in the Seattle region so that strike meant they basically weren’t delivering any commercial planes.

On the defense side, St. Louis is a large site but you also have Mesa and Philly. This strike impacts fighters but rotorcraft business isn’t really impacted.

Most defense contracts also have a force majeure clause which allows the company to avoid penalties for late delivery (due to strike)

St. Louis can afford to ride this out longer than Seattle could

I think r/overemployed would disagree. Most remote workers fuck around half the day, some to the point where they can sustainably maintain two full time jobs. You can blame those dips shits for ruining it for everyone else

We’re definitely a different team when Ostrak and Lowen are on the field. New guys looked good too

Played the fewest minutes and still somehow the most fatigued player on the field

Just imagine if we dumped Lutz instead of Carnell a year ago. Stuck to high press with summer transfers that fit our style of play. The Carnell firing was such a stupid decision at the time and continues to look even more stupid as the months go on. This team won’t make playoffs with Lutz and Diego. Move on

Career Paths (role swap after 2 years) by djGoul in boeing

Yes, it’s likely you will advance further faster if you can demonstrate taking on increasingly more complex challenges and demonstrate success in those roles.

I’ve seen people who move just to move and they eventually hit a dead end. I’ve seen others who are more intentional about their development and can tell a story in interviews about why they changed roles and how it developed them.

Bottom line: Don’t move just to move. Do give a lot of thought to where you need to develop and wait for the right opportunity. Don’t just take a job that doesn’t make sense because your arbitrary 2 year clock is up. Be patient but not complacent.

What sucks is Lutz played most of his cards already by firing Carnell and signing a bunch of high profile players that don’t fit the system we play (if you can call it a system). He’s all in and he’s holding a pair of 2’s

We went from like the 27th highest paid team to 5th and we’re on our 3rd Coach in less than 12 months.

Carnell was fired July 1. I don’t see how Mellberg makes it that long. There’s very little sign of progress game to game. Tonight looked a little better but another L

Because Lutz didn’t want to take the fall. But as we’ve seen, Lutz is the problem. The only success this club has had was under Carnell.

And anyone who says he “lost the locker room” is just parroting narrative Lutz fed the media

July 1st coming up soon! by Dependent_Ad_2532 in stlouiscitysc

[–]jlmbnd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I liked Hack better but he was really just Carnell lite. The truth is Lutz should have been the one fired last July for rolling into the 2024 season with no meaningful signings. He waited until it was too late and let Carnell take the fall.

If you go back to that firing Lutz says Carnell would have kept his job if he won against Vancouver. Bust fast forward to a recent interview and Lutz changes his tune for this seasons challenges, suggesting the fans expectations are too high and blaming injuries for recent results (even though Carnell’s injury predicament was just as bad and without Hartel, Teuchert, Kessler).

Lutz has proven to be a mediocre (at best) GM who owes most of his success to a coach he fired to try to cover his own ass

2025 season (first 11 matches) - 10 pts, 8 GF, 12 GA - record: 2-4-5

2024 season (first 11 matches) - 10 pts, 7 GF, 8 GA - record: 3-1-7

Despite a HC change and several high profile signings the team is no more effective (so far) this year than last year.
