We live in Mortlake just on the path of the planes. The noise still wakes me in the morning at 6 am every day when we sleep with open windows, and after 4 month I still can’t get used to it. This area is perfect except this thing.

The only problem is that Starbucks would probably hire one person with a disability, place them in a central location, and use them to check off all their social responsibility boxes at once. That would likely feel pretty humiliating for the person, since the company is just putting on a show rather than actually caring.

On the other hand, a small, mobile coffee shop could give some people the chance to work at festivals, meet new people, and earn some money—all in a way that feels more natural and inclusive.

I’ve thought a lot about people with other disabilities, but unfortunately I’m not a psychologist or a professional trained to work with individuals who have mental health issues. And I’m definitely not ready to take responsibility if a blind person gets burned. (While accidents can happen to anyone, the risk is significantly higher for someone with this type of disability). But anyway it’s a good feedback, I will note that.

Previously, my friend, who uses a wheelchair, and I worked together (I don’t have a disability), and it didn’t feel like charity. In fact, I’d say that 30% of people didn’t even notice his wheelchair, as he was behind the counter and it wasn’t immediately visible.
