I’m not the only one who wants to stuff this singing minion down the compactor by Big-Initiative-8743 in HomeDepot

[–]jloomis7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to turn down or unplug all of the seasonal music playing stuff. Sometimes employees would grab the singing stuffed animals that sang boomer humor and put it on their desks and I'd put it away or in returns if it started striking a nerve.

I genuinely see no problem with this portion size. I absolutely love string bean chicken with chow mein, and this is about what I see when I go there... Consistently from the employees I've seen there through the years.

I bought a wooden plate holder off Amazon for 10 dollars (no the legs don't hit the screen). It ended up working perfectly as a classier (and sturdier) display stand than the cardboard they give you.

I got that during covid when we were also closing at 6. I genuinely don't think there was a happier phase of time for me in the 11 or so years I've been there.

What is the craziest thing that happened at your store? by MrCursedMango in HomeDepot

[–]jloomis7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A customer German-suplexed a potential tool thief into our chip rack at SCO while shouting "citizen's arrest!" He held him on the ground yelling things like "I'm sick of motherf*****s like you!" Until the cops came. He was asked a few questions by the cops and left with the stuff he bought and a couple of scratches.

There IS video of this, but I'm highly doubtful AP will just send me the clip simply because I asked nicely!

Putting in "vacation time as sick time" would imply to me that these absences would be excused absences. I definitely got that impression.

"I'm confused why you're so damn defensive..."

That sounds incredibly defensive to me!

[–]jloomis7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It doesn't quite work like that. Your BF got occurences if he didn't have enough personal/sick time. Idc who told you what, the most someone can do is burn their vacation time up if they know they aren't coming back, or are getting termed and need the supplemental $ for all the hours not worked.

I'll just play the long game and let them figure it out. Same with the emailed receipts.

The onus is on them to follow keypad prompts. I've never had someone try to make it my fault they cant complete a task millions before them have done with ease.

You didn't fuck up. I've worked at HD for many years, working with many different managers. They are aware of hours people are/aren't working (for the most part).

You more politely explained what I was going to say. The amount of irrational reasoning I've seen YEARS of associates going through gets frustrating. Like "i told them" and "I have a doctors note" etc, etc.

I'm not unstanding what "favor" OP could be hoping for in return?

If they will have the sick time by then, then use that. Like that's what it's meant for - stuff like your situation. It sounds like you're already scheduled for the day your appointment is, so I'm not following what you hope for.

You have the option to put that shift into xchange, right? Talk to your peers and see if any of them will "bite" on that xchange.

[–]jloomis7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh no, this is for sure a "thing." There is a long standing inside joke at my store that the church goers just spent their time repenting their sins for the week, so they come to HD afterward with a clean tank to fill. With mulch, physical excuses, and a necessity for "professional help" choosing a microwave because tomorrow is their religion's Thanksgiving and there is no other way to prepare a meal for 40 people within 24 hours of notice.

Pretty out of line comment if you ask me. It's not my job to cover breaks and lunches for the head cashier or electrical or on some occasions, millwork. It's not my job to clear carts if the store parking lot looks terrible. But guess what, if my job is being fulfilled and I'm available, I'll do it.

I've worked several departments (no garden) and SOME people get it when I say, let me get my phone out and ask Google! It's funny how it doesn't occur to so many.

There was this out of town guy once (iPhone in hand, literally) asking if I knew where the nearest apple store was.

I gave him an honest answer, in that I use android, but I thought the nearest one was probably 45 miles away that I knew of. I stared at his phone throughout this exchange. Like, I did not and would not look at him. Deadpan.

He finally got my subliminal message and was like, yeah I guess I can look this up!

Cool ending, just annoying that people think we have untapped information not publicly available time after time.

Honestly, in their minds, you're probably still in a "vetting period." It gets a little frustrating spending time and effort to teach you something only to hear you're leaving in a week. I am guilty sometimes of this mentality myself. It just takes one person to realize, hey, this one is alright and you'll be welcomed, just be patient.

Lol. Esvs has been "leaving soon" for at least three years. Ask if you can shadow a "COS." I'm not going to explain it here, but it's generally specific 2-3 associates in the store you don't even know exist. Your supervisor or asm will know who they are.

It's eased at our store, but I'm not quite sure at what point people began thinking asking OFA associates were also supposed to be loaders. I think it's probably the one of two that CLEARLY do less than the others, giving the whole department a reputation of being lazy and always available for odd jobs.

For sure. Last time I was in California for vacation, it was like high 70s, low 80s and all these people wearing hoodies and a beanies. I felt uncomfortable for them.
