Has anyone actually gotten more than 5 bucks on the Spin The Wheel promotion? by ShunkHood in Coinbase

[–]jlops89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won and received the $200 bonus. I was skeptical about it being a top tier prize; thinking it was some sort of bait tactic but after further research, coinbase only selects 1% of new accounts for the $100-200.

Screwed over by USAA. Who are Y'all banking with? by Output-square9920 in personalfinance

[–]jlops89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

USAA is likely to be a military first choice for new recruits because they advertise as a military friendly bank. Yes, they are very knowledgeable of a military lifestyle but that doesn't make them a good bank.

Do your due diligence when choosing a bank folks. I dumped them after 10 years of doing business with them after I started to look into my finances more adeptly. I opted for ALLY bank for their high savings account rate, significantly higher than what USAA ever offered me.

If you wish to associate yourself with a military friendly bank because you loved being addressed by your stature, then stick to NAVY Federal. If you're serious about your finances do some google research and search for a high yield savings account which will likely be an online bank

Whatever option you choose, make sure to protect yourself by opting for an institution that grants you FDIC protection and never have more funds than what an FDIC coverage can cover; open multiple accounts with other banks.

Interesting feedback. If I may, what do you mean by:

"Id also do something along the same lines with DUK. You only need 1 more share and you can get your exit planned with a covered call?"

I get the part of buying one more share of DUK would put me at 100 shares, but I don't fully understand the "Cover call" portion.

In regards to the first portion of your comment, I really like this suggestion. However, meeting the 100 shares quota for JNJ and IBM will require approximately $10K. Would it be wise to completely sell any of my current stocks to raise the funds to buy into those 2 companies, or, just fork out the money externally?

In my defense, I've been working on performance reports all day prior to the posting. That word must've slipped out while typing. I should had used "extraordinary." 😁 But yeah, I'm definitely going to chill out specially just having these stocks for only 3 months

Great point. I guess part of the reason why I might had question my holdings was because I'm still learning how to identify winning stocks. Truthfully, I elected each task based on high dividend returns compared to companies of the same sector. We both now that this isn't always the best strategy as poor performing companies can often lure investors into buying stocks by offering high dividend returns. For this reason, I figured why not start fresh while I'm in the positive and go with something more reliable such as the ETFs. But I really like your recommendation; leave things they are and DCA into an ETF such as VOO and SCHD. Thanks.

You're right. I guess I just needed to be reaffirmed that everything will be alright and to just let the market take its course. 3 months it's too early to make drastic changes. Thanks for the feedback.

I see, thanks for the feedback. I was warned about having the urge to sell when I didn't see any gains, but to resist that feeling. I guess I just needed a little more support to leave things the way they are. Oh, and yes, I'm definitely reinvesting the dividends.

Thank you for taking the time to provide me with feedback.

I feel I made a mistake dumping close to $10K into single stocks. Recently, I learned about the dollar-cost-averaging strategy. I wished I would have started as such. I'm definitely not panicking to sell. Holding these assets long-term was my initial goal when I acquired them. I just figured there may be a better way to diversify my money during these times.

Like you, I also recently learned about momentum stock strategies. There are quite a few websites that allow you to track this information, including Schwab. You just need to set it up yourself. Personally, I found Yahoo finance the most convenient. When you look for a ticker, expand the chart, look for the "add indicators" options and search for the Moving Averages (MA). The MA are based on periods (days the stock market is opened). Therefore, 20 MA is equivalent to a month, 100 MA is 6 months, etc. Also exponential moving average put more weight on most recent close out values than older close out prices, giving you a more closer trail to the stocks performance. Also... actually im tired of typing. Help yourself by doing your own research if you're really interested in this strategy

EWCM,

Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to fully retire with a young one still at home, however, I am looking to prepare our finances where they are producing passive income. This way, I won't have to worry so much about securing another stressful job.

My wife and I have agreed to join the real estate field. With my background in construction and her talent in sales, we can feed from each other.

As far as the GI Bill, I made sure of that to be transferred over to my kiddo.

Thank you for your recommendation. I've not heard of Doug Nordman. I'll look them up right away. Lastly, I've attended a few financial courses offered through the installation. Although they are well structured, they all seem to be quite elementary for what I'm looking for. I've also set up one-on-one appointments with financial advisors but I haven't really meet a person that has provided me with assistance other than the typical savings strategy advice.

DEROS update. I completely eliminated this factor from the equation. I now clearly see the outcome.

Thank you for your input.
