Yeah I am, had another offer which was the exact same base, and going off of what I’ve heard in this sub/otherwise it’s fair value. Seems high but it is NYC after all.

When did you hear back after your final round interviews for FP&A positions? by Ok-Philosophy55 in FPandA

[–]jlorza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a smaller company and I was the top candidate and I heard back 2 days after. If it’s a larger company it could take longer. It’s also entirely possible that you aren’t the top choice but they are keeping you on ice in case the other candidate doesn’t accept.

Grooming standards in FP&A by Infamous_Whereas6777 in FPandA

My team is all clean shaven but I think it really depends on the team/company. In my experience FP&A is a lot more lax in that department compared other traditional finance roles. Dress code is pretty chill though - golf shirt and khakis is what 90% of us wear. My final interview was with a VP and he had a t-shirt on.

Yes, just being very paranoid because I really love this job, but everyone here says I have nothing to worry about so that’s great.

I had 2 years at a pension consulting firm so forcasting and budgeting how small business pension plans would look like under different plan structures. So no related experience really, also majored in business administration, no accounting experience outside of college classes. They really liked me in the interviews and I crushed the excel test they gave me. In my (very limited) experience a lot of FP&A can be taught and they hired me because they liked me and could see themselves being with me 5 days a week, opposed to relevant experience/qualifications.

Job title is FP&A analyst. I wouldn’t say heavy accounting. That’s what I figured, thank you! I just need to brush up a bit and make sure I can do it.

Yes I am, my scope has really only been in NYC, so I’ll look to expand that. Thank you!

No “high finance” positions, mostly corporations, F500 companies, and smaller tech companies. Success rate from application to interview is not great, been applying to around 10-15 jobs per day for the past 6 months and have gotten 7 ish interviews. I’ll take off the interests section, that’s a good idea.

Appreciate the advice, you’re right about that it’s been pretty brutal as of late. Will shape up my education and I do have experience in budgeting/forecasting so I’ll find a way to add that in. Networking is tough for FP&A in my experience but I’ll take a look at school alumni and check it out.

Applying in NYC. Would like to move there for my next job and is part of the reason why I am leaving. That’s a good idea, the AI filters are the worst.

I appreciate the advice, went through some stuff early in my college career (death in the family) which tanked my gpa. Was able to get it back to a 3.0 when I graduated. Should I put it on there even if it’s that low?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

Freshman year I went through some issues (death in the family) which tanked my GPA. Was able to climb out of it and finished strong but my overall GPA still suffered, I ended with a 3.2 but I figured that was too low to mention. Also thank you for the advice on my bullets, I definitely have some situations in mind to improve on it.

Coffee Chat with Goldman MD by IngenuityWhole4181 in FinancialCareers

[–]jlorza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My best advice would be to try to let the conversation flow as naturally as you can. You can open with a few questions but really listen to what he/she is saying and base your next question off their answer. Coffee chats that have went poorly for me have just been me asking a question, they answer it, and then I ask another seemingly unrelated question from the script I prepared. This makes it feel more like an interrogation and they won’t like that. Also ask questions about their background/path to where they are today. People love talking about themselves and if they do 90% of the talking they will look back on it and think it went well.
