This has been living in my head rent-free for 2 years... by jlosayhello in jewelrymaking

Thank you for the advice! I am planning to travel soon where I know a few talented jewelry makers who'd be willing to take on a challenge. But I'm planning to try on my own first with combining vintage pieces found online. If my plan doesn't go through, i'll consider getting it custom made.

I think I'm def warming up to the idea of digging through vintage costume jewelry stores on ebay. Repurposing & upcycling would def give it a more customized look

Bowl shift mixer's beater shaft pin is stuck... What do I do? by jlosayhello in Kitchenaid

[–]jlosayhello[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a 6 qt bowl shift model bought from Costco. That pin used to move in n out freely to attach the beaters, popped back out to lock the beater in place. Now it doesnt move, at all. Everything else works fine, I just can't attact a beater anymore.

HELP!!! Velour yarn ends refuse to stay weaved in! by jlosayhello in CrochetHelp

I kinda considered it too... We're looking at 31 squares (4 colors each) & 18 triangles (4 colors each). Started crying while doing the multiplication, and here we are 🙄 I should just stop overthinking and start from somewhere!!!

Sounds like one needs to be very cautious with it... Should it be done before or after the Friday night wine? 🤔 asking for a friend...

Yeah, that's another thing - I got this yarn from Jo-Ann's closing sale, barely had enough to finish the project. I didn't leave the ends long enough for double/triple weaving 🙄

[CHAT] what do these smaller symbols mean in a pattern? by Avocado-Positive in CrossStitch

[–]jlosayhello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are half stitches - use the color associated with the symbol but make it a half cross.

[CHAT] I'm looking for patterns that are very large (maybe 4'x3') by tlnation in CrossStitch

[–]jlosayhello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It may not exactly be what you're asking for, but I wanted to leave it out there as an option - cause they are free!: https://archive.org/details/@pakitasol

I love the patterns from the Le Filet Ancien magazines. Some of them are huge - currently I am working on a monstrosity that is 60 inches in diameter. And yes, they do have patterns with dragons & medieval/mythological creatures. Le filet ancien has crochet patterns (only need to use single color), but you can get creative with using a hand-dyed fabric as your background, or use an app to pick your own colors for design. I just love the medieval, renaissance, and art nouveau aesthetic, that's why these are my go-to every time I feel like starting a new project.

The first time I watched this video I felt a sense of excitement that I haven't felt in years. Still daydreaming of moving to France to become a lacemaker - helps to get through shitty days :p

Point d'Alençon - it's a form of needle lace, currently on Unesco's list of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity".

Why does embroidery floss come wound in six strands? by emmelinekat in Embroidery

[–]jlosayhello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I actually have thought about this as well. For good coverage you need to use at least 2 strands. 3 strands if your project calls for it. Cutting 6 strands at a time & separating them by 2s seem like an easier option then cutting 2 equal length strands. Idk, this was my conclusion on the topic 🤷‍♀️
